If you are okay with crying (chances are that you will) Watch Rumbling Hearts. Be ready to do the tears.

Ummmm, I don't think they were childhood friends, but she did live with his family.

Surprised it took that long for someone to mention Shuffle.

Edit: Actually I looked it up, he doesn't end up with the childhood friend in the anime apparently. Only if you choose her route in the VN.

If you haven't tried it, Koi Inu might be to your liking. It's a full-color webtoon that, as of right now, is still ongoing and being updated on a weekly schedule. Listed as shoujo but has a male MC in a college level school romance, so it is a cut above the typical high school romcoms.

Don't you work on Koi Inu? I've been reading it. I'm enjoying it so far.

Yup, that's me. I am very partial to the childhood friend romance trope and wish more of the romances ended up with them together instead of being cast aside in favor of some newcomer.

Can't think of any at the moment that are completed. Sadly, there are hundreds and hundreds of webtoons out there, but few are being translated into English.

As a side note, Koi Inu is very popular in Japan, currently ranking #5 out of all the various 259 webtoons on comico PLUS.

In regards to Nisekoi....

But the charaacters aren't really treated as childhood friends. Haven't readd the manga other than the ending arc so I may have missed some stuff.

@Jak

Kamisama kazoku, 100%

I think that one of the themes of the whole anime is "we are often blind to the fact that the one we were looking for was always by our side"
