@jimanator. here?

Anyway, since no one's seen it yet...

It wasn't bad. I liked the concept of it. It gave that old-school JRPG feeling, and surprisingly it did get a game made on the PSP. Unfortunately due to the large scale of the world, they had to rush through a lot of things to try to cram as much as they can within the time span. The animation was pretty good for the most part.

As for the characters, the pacing may have hurt them a bit, but there was just enough to give them a bit of the spotlight. Some really depressing stuff happens too (Poor Miina...). The message of the story was pretty cliche, but seeing that the anime was made for a younger audience, I think it did well.

Given the scale of the movie, I think Brave Story would have been a lot better if it was adapted as a TV series. "Enter a fantasy world for a chance to change the fate of your life." Reminds me of ERASED, but the premise actually makes sense this time...

@tarotist thanks.

i really liked it but i only gave it a 7 because i felt like it was way too rushed. i think packing the entire thing into just a single movie was too much.

also, because of quick pace, at the end when they do hit you with the feels, it doesn't really have any impact.

For the most part, I didn't mind the pace so much, actually. I felt it fit with the traveling/quest theme nicely.
But I agree it would have been nice to see more of the world and the side characters.

What I disliked about the ending was that it made Wataru's decision to save Vision less hard in retrospect in my opinion.
The moral of the story is that you should not put the wishes you make for yourself over the good of everyone else. But both Mitsuru and his sister are back in the "real" world, and Wataru's mother gets well again, too. So if you want to see it like that, Wataru actually had two and a half wishes of his three granted.
Of course, he couldn't have known that when making his wish, but it still feels like "We want you kids to make morally good decisions, so we tell you they are hard to go through with because it means giving up your own comfort sometimes, but don't worry, in the end you'll get (almost) everything you wanted anyway."
Of course, a happy ending is usually the best decision for a children's movie, but this is stretching it a little for my (non-target-group) taste. I don't mind Wataru's mother getting well at all (since that was realistically possible without a wish, too), and not even Mitsuru's showing up at school (since it was not explicitly stated that you die in the real world too when you die in Vision, he might just have been teleported outside or something, and all magic happenings in the real world require memory loss of people not involved ;) ), but Aya being alive couldn't have come true any other way than by two wishes coming true instead of one. And it just reduces the impact of the movie's message, in my opinion.

But other than that, I still enjoyed watching this. :)

Ah, okay! :) I'm definitely not familiar with slang from that time period, so I didn't know. Thanks for telling me!
