Disregarding the fact that the internal monologues were omitted, how good of an adaptation do the people who have watched the movie think it is?

| uhm late reply but, I have read the novel and have seen part 1 now. And I'd say 6/10... The novel was a straight 10/10 favorite novel I have ever read while the anime is ok. |

| Pretty bad. A lot of scenes were so ridiculously overchoreographed they lost all the depth of the novel in an attempt to look more flashy. Scenery was changed for no apparent reason (from urban to industrial areas, from street corners and localized power outages to a freakin' subway) and overall it felt all over the place. Even disregarding the monologues, it felt worse than reading the novel. |
| Unfortunately I don't clearly remember at all of the details or differences to note, but I do remember feeling that this movie and the movies overall were lackluster from what I read, because it wasn't terrifying or depressing like the book presented it to be. From Araragi and Kisshot, originally, she's far more scary, and their situatio is a lot sadder. The dark tone of the novel was mostly lost from the comedic change and exagerrated visuals, along with whatever was cutout or rushed. Later on, many of the characters don't feel like their novel-selves as I envisioned. So, as great as it is, even though it's somewhat decent, I think it's kinda bad... |
