For me, I love almost every genre or anime except romance or slice of life. So I was wondering, is there something I'm missing out on? Also suggest the best/most popular romance/slice of life if you think I might like it. It can be action or fantasy. ALSO PLEASE ABSOLUTELY NO ECHHI! I hate that kind of stuff! Thanks!

Who am I? One name you might have for me is the world, or you might call me the universe, or perhaps God, or perhaps the Truth. I am All, and I am One. So, of course, this also means that I am you. I am the truth of your despair, the inescapable price of your boastfulness. And now, I will bestow upon you the despair you deserve.

I had similar attitude when I first got into anime. "Why would anyone watch SOL anime when there are a lot of fun fantasy/action anime". Especially that usually films/tv shows can't make the same kind of scenes or settings. Then I stumbled upon Toradora! and for some reason I started watching it. I didn't like it at the beggining but it slowly grew on me. I don't know if it was everyday humor or the story or the characters. But I definitely enjoyed it.

Now what makes SOL or romance enjoyable to me are the characters.

It's hard to make recommendations without knowing what you don't like about romance anime, but I'll give it a shot at least. These are some good/popular ones out there that might have something you'll like.

Toradora (By far one of the most popular romance, and imo a very solid one)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/4224/Toradora!

Chuunibyou (A bit more focused on the cute/comedy aspect of things)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/14741/Chuunibyou_demo_Koi_ga_Shitai!

Golden Time (Very different in how it approaches romance than most anime I've come across. One of the best)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/17895/Golden_Time

ef:Tale of Memories (Follows two love stories, and has a fairly unique style and presentation)
http://myanimelist.net/anime/2924/ef:_A_Tale_of_Memories.

Rec (A lot heavier in the drama department, and has a much more "real" feel to it than most)

Honey and Clover
Nodame Cantabile
Kimi to Boku

All satisfy romance/SOL.
Enjoy.

Romantic Anime Series are simply awesome when followed regularly. I like them because they are more interesting and have good story.

oh and to add to the "why", at least in my case it's because I find myself to be just a very romantic person in general. Love is the best feeling to me, and improves even trivial everyday things in my life. I like to see the story of others getting to experience that sensation as well.

The reasons why someone would like/dislike it are going to be very different person to person, but I think a lot of it would in some way boil down to how much you cherish or appreciate "love".

If you want to get into romance anime, I'd recommend Toradora!

Another great romances:
Spice and Wolf - fantasy, best heroin ever (Holo)
Golden Time - college romance
Nodame Cantabile - college and after, great classic music
White Album 2 - nice music and some drama

And I'm sorry, but I can't tell you why... I just love them. Probably because of the feeling.

Usually,
1. Because people can relate to it, meaning they can connect their daily lives and daily scenarios to it.
2. They have same opinions, views, or situations similar to some of the characters.
3. When reality s*cks. You want to find an "alternative" better look or perception to reality. (?)

Mine would be reason 1 and 2. And for the recommendations...

[A.] Slice of life (romance as subplot. Descriptions are from MAL)
1. AnoHana (series trailer)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8fvwC5xVGg

2. The Girl who Leapt through time (movie)
- Trailers does not justify this great movie. There's an eng dubbed available at Ytube

3. Welcome to Nhk
"When you think anime, you think otaku. When you think otaku, you think people that dislike other people. Those people become hikikomori (people who shut themselves in)." So Satou manages to uncover the plot of The NHK (stands for Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai), after three years of shutting himself in (and rapidly approaching the fourth)
- But oh my god, I has ecchi scenes though :(

4. Kimi ni Todoke (Romance > SOL)
- Well, I like both herroine. And it does not seem forced

The title is kinda misleading, I was expecting a rant lol

Anyway, I recommend Honey and Clover if one-sided love is your cup of tea.

Vast majority of people can relate to it. Most people have experienced romantic love at one time or another in their life, and even for those who haven't, they tend to have at least some understanding of romantic love.Personally,I like to watch romance Anime because character relationships and interactions are usually their main attraction point.

For further explanation please ask Katsuragi Keima from The world god only knows •‿•.

I recommend you to watch Nagi no asukara if you like love triangle.

Well, in my opinion, there were some plot twists (if there are some) that made the viewers more thrilled to watch the anime. Viewers can also relate to it in some aspect of the show. It also depends if the romance anime is:

Romance > Other genre (comedy, slice of life, etc.)
Romance < Other genre (comedy, slice of life, etc.)
Romance = Other genre (comedy, slice of life, etc.)

I recommend Toradora (well everyone suggests it), Nisekoi (if you want a lot of girls romancing over one guy, "Harems" for short)

and also:
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
Kotoura-san
Golden Time
Anohana
Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
Kimi ni Todoke
Sukitte Ii na yo
