So I've been thinking about picking up Clamp's dark and violent apocalyptic manga X for a while now. Earlier budget was an issue (picking up six omnibusses is not cheap) but now that I do finaly have the money for it. I do have to wonder: is it worth picking up? The story sound really interesting and it gets good reviews but I have a few gripes with it.
A) It's shojo which is generally not my favourite demographic. Though I do hear that X at times verges more towards seinen which is my favourite demographic. Is this true or is it very decidedly shojo?
B) It doesn't end. I usually avoid things that don't end because it's always such a massive let down for me when I'm all engrossend in the story and characters only to find out I will never know what happens to them. But in this case I'm able to overlook it because it got an anime adaptation that does end thankfuly. So can I just read the manga, then watch the anime and get a proper ending or doesn't it work that way?
I haven't read it or watched it (Look how helpful I'm going to be! D:) but my suggestion is to read the first volume or so, decide if you like it or not, and then take the pricey plunge.
1. FYI, the shoujo demographic can have some of the best dark mangas. (Example: Houkago Hokenshitsu)
2. Don't let the fact that it doesn't end deter you from buying a good manga. Otherwise, what would be the point of buying ongoing manga? X, thankfully, has the chance to finish, unlike many other unfinished works.
Depends actually? Been fan of holic for a long time and it's been too long so i don't think they'll ever finish it bt still anime does give some closure or bit of ided how it might end therefore wroth a try!!
