I used tumblr when I was younger. It spawned a longtime internet feud that bled into a real mental concern, as a result of the generalized hatred of the site basically getting to me. I reverted to the sociopolitical traps, the 'fakegender' nonsense, and everything in between. The sociopolitical state of the site is frightening in its 'with us or against us' mentality, and the plausibility that too much differentiation will ultimately result in any dissenting user being ganged up on. I did say some really nasty and petty shit when I was younger, but I also think that some people overreacted to me, particularly what I thought sociopolitically (I was a really far left extremist at one point, but by the time that began to fizzle out people saw me as Satan, essentially, hence the fact that I had a 'callout' made against me for dismissing tumblr's childish politics at one point), though yeah, younger me was an immature little bitch. That being said, tumblr is a pretty toxic and immature place if you fall in with the wrong crowd, which is pretty damn easy if you're easily swayed by the conformist nature of the site in general, as in 'be a special snowflake, be one of us, and you too can hold the falsehood that you belong to a SPECIAL GROUP OF PPL uwu!11!!".
The only positive experience that I can say spawned from it is that I did find a writing based, fandom related character roleplay community that I did like, at least for the time I joined it, but drama seeped in and essentially created a ton of separation. I don't think I'd go back because overtime the fandom has also been stronger influenced by SJW type people, and the character I portrayed at the time, and to this day, is very 'socially incorrect' and generally considered to be morally repugnant, which'd send the extremist fandom members up in arms. People literally have trouble differentiating the fact that I like a corrupt, deviant character in fiction, from the reality that I acknowledge said character's actions are wrong. I already went through that circlejerk and never felt like I got full acceptance, would rather not go through it again.
To an extent, Tumblr has some decent posts if the shit is waded through. there are some good graphic designers and makers, good gif editors, nice aesthetic posts, and the like, but those can be accessed without regular poster status or even registering, and thus, the blogging nature of the site is rendered pretty useless to me. It brought me a lot of strife and false hope, but I did make some temp friendships on there, I guess. If only a percentage of them hadn't become little 'third gender' snowflakes it wouldn't have been so bad. |
