| Well, unfortunately he is the perfect bait for fangirls. Since fangirls make up the majority and loudest parts of fandom... of course we'll hear the most from them. He has his flaws and I kinda think he's kinda overrated, but Levi is a pretty likable character beneath the surface. Levi genuinely cares about his comrades. He doesn't even try to hide it. He straight up grabbed the dying soldiers hands and told him his death would serve as motivation to kill the titans. He didn't have to grab his bloodied hand (since he's OCD and blood is filthy to him) but he did it to be of comfort to the soldier. I heard someone refer to him as a cathartic character, which I also agree is part of the appeal. You know you don't have to worry if Levi is around, because he's humanities strongest. He can take titans down with ease in a world where people die easily. He doesn't lose his cool in any circumstance. When his squad died he didn't freak out. He was able to stick to the mission. In fact he had to pull Mikasa away from her blood lust and try to get her focused. If Levi hadn't caught up with her and protected her she would have died too. Levi has shown even if the world is falling apart around him he can maintain focus, which as I said, is cathartic in SnK where most characters freak out, rage, or piss their pants in fear in situations like that. It's obvious Levi has witnessed many deaths of comrades. I highly doubt this squad was the first time he's experienced the death of friends. And yet he still doesn't become someone who is jaded or unaffected by death. He's shown he's the kind of man who would put his own life at risk to save someone else. Even though he probably knows he's the strongest soldier he doesn't undervalue anyone else nor view his life as more important than anyone else. He's always considerate of his subordinates and not wanting their deaths to be in vain. It also seems he doesn't want other people to experience the death of a close one. He is traumatized he has to tell Petra's father his daughter is dead after hearing him being so happy and proud of her. Or in the forest with Mikasa, Levi was convinced Eren was already dead and it might be pointless to engage the female titan again but when he realized Mikasa was Eren's childhood friend and she was convinced he was still alive he believed her and went through with the rescue attempt. On the flip side there is still some mystery to his character. It would be interesting to know more about his past. He does have a bit of a dark streak as demonstrated while threatening the female titan when she was tied down. Then there is his open contempt of the government and military police. There is a lot left to be learned about his character and how he became who he is today. His relationship with Erwin is interesting. His blind loyalty to the point he trusts Erwins judgement over his own is something that would be interesting to see expanded on. But I guess what I'm trying to say that in a lot of ways I think Levi is easily likable to fans because he is good towards his comrades and capable of fighting enemies that seem insurmountable. Mikasa and Eren are main characters yet they seem more one-track minded and only focus on one goal (they are young hopefully they will develop more past that), whereas Levi has shown more consideration towards others and still manages to be badass. It's funny because my first impression of Levi was 'oh he's like Sasuke' but is way wrong. And while it's true Levi looks the part of this detached elite who doesn't care about anyone else, he is surprisingly compassionate. Even better that he doesn't try to play it off to maintain this untouchable persona, he is just naturally stoic due to his years of experience. |

| Levi is an alright character, i dont mind him but he is just OVERATED. Don't see the appeal, he looks like a creepy 13 year old that tries to be serious all the time. He always suppresses his emotions because he thinks he's badass, I don't like it really. Tbh I think its his loud large fanbase that turns me away... |

The show's popular, so he's popular too. It just happens that he's a popular character within the popular show because people eat up the really strong characters. See also; Mikasa. |

I remember in 2010 that the manga started and people already started to like him and it was not popular back then as it is now. |

| Levi is like badass mixed in with hilarity.. He can talk shit and make jokes with deadpan expressions like Christopher Walken.. He cares for his comrades and shows it.. His relationship with Eren and Erwin are funny and it brings more out of him and his flaws are hilarious especially the way Petra talked shit about him to Eren behind his back..For "humanities strongest" someone would expect a huge and muscular warrior but Levi is the opposite..He's a clean freak yet grabbed a bloodied hand of a dying soldier with no hesitation and I like how he acts rational when idiots can't seem to think( most notably Eren and Mikasa) |

Jean_Rules said: He is easily one of the best characters imo if not the best and what I saw from him in EP 22 made him my 2nd fav character after Jean. He isn't heartless as some people made him out to be at first. Plus you gotta love the god-like skills he has. The fighting scene against the FT was the best fighting scene in the whole season imo. Just breathtaking! He's not even close to being lifeless. He's probably the opposite. What people are failing to understand is that he's seen death (much more than Eren) that he realizes crying and breaking down emotionally will solve nothing. His experience has taught him to move forward regardless of the situation. That makes him a very complex character. |
