As long as we're talking about proper Japanese names, I certainly would. In my opinion, Japanese offers some of the most beautiful names in the world. Just looking at my list of favorite anime, I can think of a few that would work just fine... Kaede, Sakura, Haruka, Noe, etc. Boys' names are a bit harder, I guess, but I can see myself having the same problem in my native language as well.

The name I've chosen is Canaan, and coincidentally it's the name of a character in Xenosaga. It was from the bible first though, so it's not too bad...

Well actually some of the Japanese names are nice and can be other asian names, so I could possibly name my child after an anime character.

Suki or Sayuri maybe?

Well, there are things worse than naming your kid after an anime character.

I once read about a mother who insisted to call her child ''Asshole'', but it had to be pronounced "A-shole". I feel sorry for the kid.

I think that, as long as it isn't ''wellknown'' anime name (Naruto, anyone? haha), a lot of names can actually be quite normal. People seem to like giving their kids weird names or odd spellings of existing names anyway, so why not?

I mean, anime characters don't have always strange/fictionals/embarassing name.

I could call my son Edward (from Edward Elric) or Allen (Allen Walker) without ruining his life but also in honour of an anime char I like.

I don't think anybody would call a son Vegeta or Gaara, but some names are fit to be a person's. Rei (Ayanami), Lina (Inverse), Kei (Kurono) or Ciel (Panthomhive), for example.

Anime names are so diverse really so it's hard to just say "NO" outright. >_>...

I named my cat Tokidoki (from Amatsuki. The vets all think it's a really cute name).

My boyfriend and I agreed that if we have a kid, we'd name it Wyatt (stolen from Beyblade) for a boy or Rosette (from Chrno Crusade) for a girl. Neither of those names are unusual really.

These are our choices because we like the names. Just got them from anime (though obviously Wyatt is a normal English name).

Well~

There are a lot of names in animes that I think are really pretty, but if I did name my child after an anime character, it'd be a more Westernized one, like Mila Rose for example (from Bleach).

exactly why I would NEVER subject my offspring to the life of having an anime character's name.

I'm not sure what's wrong with Japanese names. If I was a girl, my parents were going to name me Suki.

Naming a kid AFTER an anime character would be pretty superficial, but if it's just a pretty name, I don't see the problem. Say I would want to name my daughter Satsuki, it's a very sweet name, and I first heard it through Totoro. That's not too inappropriate now, is it?

Though possibly a missed chance for real sentimental value, seeing as naming a child is rather important, I would at least honor loved ones with relative initials or something.

Yep, I'll do it XD
Especially if I marry a Japanese guy XD
If not...I'll have to settle for ordinary sounding kind of anime names -w-

That would rule out the name 'Kyoya' for a son though...

I'd name a daughter after an anime character. Interesting or foreign names suit girls well; so if I had a girl, I'd name her Yotsuba, Akashi or Yoko.

Boys with strange names tend to get picked on, so I wouldn't want my son to have any weird Japanese names. So I'd give him an English name instead, Lelouche perhaps.

Lol English. Lelouch is actually French and literally means "the shady", according to my sister's French exchange friend.

If I were Japanese, married to a Japanese man, or for whatever reason had a Japanese surname, then sure, why not. As none of those are the case, however, no. Not because I don't like naming kids for favorite characters or anything -- but I'm not going to name my kid Miyako Smith or Tohru Hollingshead. That would seem stupid. Though I do have two favorite characters named Alex (Anderson and Armstrong), and I know for a fact that I am naming any kids of mine some derivative of Alex*, so I guess, incidentally, it could be the case.

* My fiance's name is Alexander, mine is Alexandra. If we have kids, they are going to be Alexandria, Alexa, Alexia, Aleks, Alexandros, maybe an Alejandro for good measure. If that weren't his name, I'm inclined towards Rupert (Giles) and Dolores (Haze).
