| Revisiting one of my first anime... I think it's the 5th or 6th or something like that. Definitely after Your Name, Steins Gate, Sword Art Online, and Your Lie in April, which I know were my first. And yeah I'll admit that pretty much the only reasons I picked this up were because of a cute blonde anime girl as the main character, and it being readily available on netflix. Anyway, I remember finishing this series and thinking that it was just alright, and would probably never watch it again. Welp, I was wrong. Because after watching quite a bit of anime, damn I realize that this is beautiful. I didn't recognize it back then because I hadn't yet watched enough anime so I didn't know exactly what the standard was- but I do now, and wow this is a beautiful-looking anime- even by Kyoto Animations already-high standards. I guess visually this is their best work to date. This or Hibike Euphonium, both look super clean- although maybe this one wins in the artistic department. So yeah maybe I had thought this was boring back when I first watched it, it is a slow burn and it does take its time- but right now, I can just appreciate it fully. I also remember not really being emotionally impacted that much when compared to most other viewers. But I gotta say that right now, even though it's just the first episode, I'm feeling something. It's been so long so it basically feels like I'm watching a brand new anime I haven't seen, but the memories in the back of my head are coming back a little, and wow I think I'm in for a treat. I've been occasionally picking up anime I've watched a while ago and re-watching it to either enjoy it again if not more, or give it another chance if I didn't really enjoy it the first time but feel like I could learn to like it. This one is a bit of both. What I do know is that this might just be my best re-watch yet, considering that I watched it close to when it was released 6 or so years ago, and that it's just a really good anime overall, and I can't wait to experience it again. Sorry for filling this space up with more personal stuff and not much talk about the actual episode, I just wanted to lay my thoughts out somewhere because I am surprised to find myself getting a bit emotional returning to Violet Evergarden. Maybe that in turn is just testament to how good this show is. That despite it being so long (or maybe it is one of my first anime), I've come to realize that in the back of my mind, this story is always been one I've been invested in all this time. |

| wow, i can see why this series receives so much love. for one, the animation is ETHEREAL, everyone and everything is so whimsical looking. violet and gilbert's goodbye made me real sad ;( her not understanding what he meant shows how little she's seen the world. she better get a happy ending >:( |
