Oops, I missunderstood what the term meant, I swear that in 2000s western internet it meant something different than it does in Japanese culture, honestly I should have done a search before responding.
Also I'm not a porn addict.

I don't feel too strongly about it with this show in particular... Early on, there were definitely moments that didn't feel totally platonic to me. But the writers really got on pushing the image of their bond as that of sisters pretty early on. It felt like they knew exactly how some of those moments might come across and did what they could to draw their line in the sand, make it clear that that's not what they were going for here.

Now something like Canaan, on the other hand... It's laughable, by the end, to hear the two main girls describe each other as "best friends." This "sisters" take on it goes over much more smoothly for me.

(And you know, every once in a while, we get spoiled in the opposite direction. I don't know if you ever saw The Girl in Twilight, but...

SPOILERS!!!

There's a pair of childhood best friends in that one that I never read into as being anything more than friends. But near the end, one of them confesses, and they end the series with the implication that they get together afterwards so... Try to stay positive! Sometimes it balances out.)
