Like reducing the workload, paying appropriate wages, etc.
Do they value Discipline over their own life? That's really admirable but they shouldn't pressurize themselves like that.
Thoughts?

I know its irrelevant but which site do you use for watching anime?

They probably don't know any better. Crap working conditions go along are kinda the status quo of the industry and have been for a while that it might be hard for them to imagine thinks being any different.

If they do, hopefully they don't get in trouble or get fired for it

I still can't help but adore how so many on this board think that complaining about the working conditions of animators in Japan is the epitome of social consciousness

You're not a weeb, you don't worship Japan, you're aware of how poorly the animators are treated and you're going to barrage people with as much like shouting into an online void about it will actually amount to anything! That'll show those people who made fun of your anime pfp on Twitter that you're not like the stereotype of a weeb!

Good job!

But yeah, I doubt OP or most people who hammer this so often actually give a shit. It always comes across as ridiculously self-serving to me.

How else should we show support then? Like I know posting about this topic doesn't do much of anything to effect animator wages over there, but doesn't it make more people aware of the issue? I'm pretty sure there are still people watching anime that don't know of this issue ... some of which may be getting on MAL for the first time. I mean anime is growing in popularity, right? At the very least, the new fans don't know yet.

Apologies if someone else brought this up to you by the way. I didn't read through all of the comments on your post.

It's because of us. At the end of the day if the consumers of anime decided to start boycott in order to rise the wages they would rise but at the same time the cost of animation would too. Especially in an industry with high pirate rates like anime it is pretty hypocritical to complain about bad working conditions. Does the OP care enough about animator's conditions to stop watching anime and start paying more for it in order to improve them?

I don't think animators get a cut of the profits. Most of the excess money gets funneled up to producers and executives.

Buy more merch doesn't fix the system.

Probably since trade unions isn't strong enough so workers aren't protected.

I never said money goes to animators. That is exactly why you need to first let the producers know that you don't want to watch anime that does not pay animators enough by boycotting current anime. If enough people do this the industry will be pressured to increase animator's wages. However in order to keep the same profits anime will become more expensive.

I don't personally care enough about it in order to stop my own anime consumption or to start to pay more so I don't have any right to complain about the working conditions and I don't think anyone else who thinks this way has either.

Probably because they risk getting fired and animation is usually the only thing they know how to do, why else would they subject themselves to such harsh work environments outside of it being their passion?

Whatever happened to workers unions?
Wouldn't be surprised if they're illegal or get busted up

It’s not as bad as it used to be or as bad as people make it out to be http://www.salaryexplorer.com/salary-survey.php?loc=107&loctype=1&job=41&jobtype=3

Also, when there is a large amount of people wanting to do a very limited amount of jobs, it limits their negotiating power in terms of salary.

Honestly most of the animators should quit and look for a better paying job. The industry is beyond fixing so it is best to move on unless they can land a decent wage.
