The beginning showed us Trebol reforming as expected and Doflamingo getting news of Kin’emon. However, the meat of the episode was Kyros’ recollection and flashback. I was hoping to see more Usopp but this was important. As Gensuke Seki once said in Shinjuku Swan, "you can tell just from looking who's only caring about themself”. We don’t get to see the kyoudai that Kyros lost and we don’t even get to know the gang who killed them, but we got to see the boy who was ready to die, full of rage and sadness and with nowhere to go. And that boy goes way back with king Riku, Riku saw how hurt he was and rejected killing him, he rather took him in as his own. He let him fight and hone his skills when the colosseum was a place that rejected murderers, Kyros even dealing with the hate that Rebecca would later get. He fought and fought but soon it became obvious that he didn’t want to leave because, as sad as it was, the only place he belonged was inside the cage he was put. And even when people came around to his side and cheered for him, he still didn’t see himself as something more than a violent beast because of the blood that was on his hands. He appeared to cry by the graves of those who killed his friend, he had horrid nightmares, and it was then that Riku acted once more. He appeared as the mysterious Ricky which explains why someone recognized him in the crowd, and he fought Kyros to prove to him that he would lower his guard, that he wasn’t some violent savage.

It was then that he was able to accept himself and leave the ring, he joined Riku’s side and acted as a bodyguard to his daughters and a commander which quite honestly has stayed the same all things considered. He grew feelings for Scarlet while being adorably unsure of how to interact with someone on such an intimate level and by saving her, she came around to him. And when they fell in love Riku helped Kyros yet again, he faked his own daughters death so that she could live with Kyros in secret. That then explains why Scarlet lived away from the prestigious royal life that Viola had. During all this happiness, Rebecca being born, the sad but humorous touch that Kyros would only hold her with gloves, the happiness of the family, the adorable young Viola, all I could think about was the horrifying scene when Kyros tells Rebecca that he could not protect her mother. The happiness of his climb to redemption, finding a place to belong and accepting himself, all came tainted with the sadness of the present. Those times like Viola forgetting about him or Rebecca saying she hated him or that he wasn’t her father hurt much more now that we got first hand experience with him. But in another way it’s somewhat sweet because, even if Kyros was erased from Rebecca’s memory, they created another love together.

Lastly, I just realized how obvious the soldier being Kyros was with the fact that when toys are created, memories of that person are erased, as no one remembered Kyros so it should have been clear he was made into a toy.

I never would've expected that a gladiator as legendary as Kyros would be so soft-hearted especially with his thuggish past. It's tragic to see that the guy's had such a wonderful life when he finally freed himself from captivity only for everything to be taken away from him by Doflamingo and his crew.

Wow! that was a great backstory of Kyros but think about this... he was 25 and Scarlet was 15. I understand there's a 10 year age gap and that's fine but why 15? They could've been 30 and 20. I don't know but I think when I reach 25, I wouldn't feel anything for a 15 year old brat unless she's got a sexy body of someone in her 20's. But it's still a very interesting backstory.

But...she have a sexy body ! ⭐️〰⭐️

It's funny how I made that comment almost 7 years ago when I was 18 and I actually just turned 25 last month. And yep... still don't like 15 year olds. 🤷

She faked her death so she could be with Kyros. That's love. Rebecca was very cute as a baby.

Spanish translation:
Fingió su muerte para poder estar con Kyros. Eso es amor. Rebbeca era muy linda de bebe.

Usopp shouldn't have been surprised at Trebol still being alive. The Strawhats should've encountered enough Logia-types by this point that it should be expected.

Seems the citizens of Dressrosa have been complete hypocrites even before Doflamingo took over and changed up the colosseum. What suddenly changed for them to suddenly go from holding Kyros' murders against him for 100+ matches to unconditional adoration by 3000 and becoming army commander?

We now know why Rebecca and Scarlet weren't living with the royal family in her previous flashbacks. Was faking Scarlet's death really required though? Wouldn't abdication have been enough if no citizen would've objected to the marriage like King Riku said? How did Doflamingo learn of Scarlet being alive though...and of Rebecca?

Oda always does royal families good. Rather it be Albasta, Fishman Island, or Dressorsa. They all have great flashbacks and characters.

Kyros is a great character and good to see him in the flesh. If he does get turn back to human. Still think doflamingo will be able to beat him good.

Side note. This arc so long. In a normal arc I’d say we be at least 2/3 through it. But in reality 75 + episodes left and it’s not even half. Very curious to see what happens. Maybe Kiado or the rest of the marines show up if they end up defeating doflamingo soon.
