Another peak anime theatre movie added to the list. It was an experience. First of all loved the op by Kenshi yonetzu, he just keeps delivering, especially the rap part, he killed it. An amazing adaptation of the manga and doing even more justice to it. From the serene beautiful pool scene with reze and denji with the eargasmic ost to probably one of the best animations and fight sequence done by mappa yet. Like i couldnt even take my eyes off for one second for the fear of missing out any detail. The ost was such a banger and suited the entire scene so well i was rocking my head while my eyes were glued to the screen. Its been a while since i had so much fun while watching a movie in the theatre ngl. Thank you to mappa and the staff & especially the animators. Hope they are being treated well and above for such an amazing masterpiece & hardwork they put in. Finally Fuck you makima, i know my girl reze did questionable things but she still wanted to run away with denji & have a quiet life. That last part where reze keeps looking towards the cafe even while bleeding out just broke my heart and the soundtrack didnt help either. Also good thing the habit of me waiting till after credits came in clutch otherwise would have missed the scene, poor denji still waiting on reze till the night, he believed so much. He just wanted love and he was so close to it. Atleast power came in to lighten the mood a little thats why i love her so much. "If i am gonna be killed, i am fine it being done by a beautiful girl like you" Cinema

After a year and a half after watching the 1st season of Chainsaw Man (and 3 years since the 1st season was released), this movie, the continuation to this series, is finally out! And I have to say, the wait was really worth it. This is actually the first anime movie I went to the cinema to watch, and I feel like it was a really good choice for the 1st anime movie (in this aspect). This movie was amazing. The animation was incredibly good. The fight scenes were so well done, like, it was so good and exciting just watching Denji and Reze fight scenes. It's not everyday we get this kind of animation, and this story really deserved this treatment. The movement sequences were so clean, like wow, just wow. Although the director for the movie is different from the 1st season, besides the artstyle, I actually didn't notice much difference in terms of direction than the first season, and I loved that. This movie really felt cinematic, and I always liked that about Chainsaw Man, because it has some of its Shounen elements, the story can go really deep and meaningful, and so many important scenes become so impactful due to this. One example is when they show us a spider catching its prey, a butterfly, while Reze is teaching Denji how to swim, symbolizing how Reze has also caught her prey, that is Denji. And now about the plot of the movie... Wow, Chainsaw Man outdid itself in this regard. I have to start by saying that I feel like this arc really benefited to have a movie adaptation, because it just felt right, and the story between Denji and Reze started and had its closure in this 99 minutes movie. And this story deserved the highlight. One of the big thematics last season was whether Denji maintained his human emotions or not (if he still had a "heart"). While we see that Denji grieved the death of Himeno last season, it still was a big question for him. So this story arc was really important for Denji to know himself better. We first see that he actually becomes quite happy after noticing he felt some emotions when watching that last movie with Makima, and how he felt different when he was with her, in other words, that he really was in love with her, and therefore he still had a heart. But after that, he gets to know Reze, a girl from his age, that likes him for what he is, and without noticing he starts falling in love with her too. Even if he wanted to resist these feelings he had for Reze (since his heart was Makima's), his body would just not listen. I feel like, in a way, Denji understands by the end that what he felt for Reze really was something stronger than what he felt for Makima. I think this also has to do with the fact that Makima only seems to be using his feelings towards him to make Denji do what she wants, since she also does the same to Aki. But with Reze it was different, she actually appreciated his personality, what he is as a person, and not his Chainsaw abillities, like Makima. Seeing Denji have a teen love with Reze was actually healing. He suffured so much, and as noted by Reze, he was robbed of a normal childhood and teenage years. He deserved to happy and loved. So when that serial killer came to get Reze, and I was getting so worried, until the moment Reze started twitching her eyes, there I understood something was going to happen. When she killed the serial killer, with her own fighting abillites, while singing something in what I thought was Russian I was like "ohh, why is she singing in Russian?" After this, it was so hard to watch the fireworks scene, because after all, Reze really was only after Denji, due to his heart, just like the Gun Devil ordered. Once again, Denji was used. Once again, no one really loved him. Once again, he was fooled. It really was just heartbreaking to see him getting betrayed by Reze, especially after so many sweet scenes between the 2, like the pool one. And then the whole fight between the 2 happened, and it was epic. Reze really was overpowered. And Beam was there for the rescue (also, really happy we got to know about him, since last season he appeared only at the end, and he seemed like an interesting character, and it's funny how he just wants to be around Denji), fortunately, if not Denji would be dead by now. I really liked how the battle ended. Denji wrapped both himself and Reze with chains, and made the two of them, together, sink in the ocean. Denji was really ready to die together with her. Beam ends up rescuing them, and Denji decides to let her live, in an attempt to be together with her, to just be harshly rejected. Even so, he didn't give up, and maintained his hopes up, even saying to Reze that he would be waiting for her at the cafe they used to hang out. The way the movie ends showing the aftermath of Reze and Denji's battle (showing how many people died from those attacks), revealing that, just like Denji, Reze was also robbed of her childhood, that she was an orphan, captured by her country and trained to be an agent for the Sovietic forces, made everything about the relationship between these 2 even more special. This explains the Russian song from earlier, and a bit about her reaction. In a way, it seemed she was singing that song to calm herself down, and to zone out from what she was really doing (killing a person), and I suppose this was something she learned when she was training... She must have suffered as much as Denji honestly... The scenes with Reze going to the train station, donating to the orphan kids, looking at the flower, and eventually, the train leaving without her, was done flawlessly, and you just end up be like "omg, it's happening", and there she goes, running to see Denji at the cafe. It was so sweet to see that Denji's feelings really weren't one-sided. She also loved Denji. By his side, she could have a more "normal" life, at least an happier life. But as she reached that alleyway, I already knew something was happening, I just didn't want it to happen. When the rats started running, and then Makima appears, I knew that it was not going to end well... Seeing Makima just ruthlessly killing Reze, just a few meters away from Denji, was heartbreaking. Reze really wanted to meet Denji one more time, and she wasn't able to do so... Makima really wouldn't let her at least say goodbye to Denji, and killed her at the spot. Seeing her say "I also wished that I killed you earlier Denji" was really sad, since it shows that since she ended up spending some time to get close to Denji, Reze really ended up falling in love for him, and now she's suffering from not being able to be with him, and ended up getting herself killed by that. The worst is that for Denji, he doesn't know the truth, and for him, Reze really just didn't have any feelings for him, and left him alone in that cafe, where he waited all day long, with a bouquet of flowers... Like, at that point my tears were starting to get out. It's just so unfair for our Boy, he suffered all that due to Reze, and now is going to think the feelings weren't reciprocal. Even if he thinks he "doesn't" have a heart, and that he doesn't have much experience with other people in general, he still bought those flowers to the girl that tried to murder him. If that's not love, I don't know what is... This ending was really bittersweet. Sweet because we get the confirmation that Reze also liked Denji, but bitter because she never got to tell him that, the last words she told him were exactly the opposite. This movie explored Denji's character so well, and gave us this thought provoking impossible-love story. This movie really is that 1 out of 10 movies that will strike your heart and you'll remember it for a long, long time. I also liked how they still explored other characters like Aki, that is so afraid of losing anyone else after Himeno, that even sacrificed 2 months of his life to save the Angel Devil, and also he has less than 5 years to live (I wonder if Denji knows about that). And the Angel Devil, that until that moment didn't give much importance to humans, decided to not bring Aki to kill Reze, because he didn't want him to feel guilty of killing a young girl, that is also the love interest of Denji, his close friend. And I also liked how they showed that even if the Special Unit is basically making Denji have to deal with stuff a 16 year old should have to deal with, and how they don't really try to give him a happy life either, Denji still feels happier, because he now has Power and Aki by his side. That scene after the credits roled, where Denji was still waiting for Reze, you could see he really was depressed that she didn't appear (I would even say he was close to cry), but after staring at Power, he realized that he has other people he cares about now, and that he isn't alone. In fact, Power came to look out for him. Even if she is selfish and not that human, she still cares enough for him to do that. And let's not forget how terrified Aki was when he saw Denji almost dead, after Beam brought him, showing once again how he's terrified of losing anyone else. And I cannot forget to talk about the opening and the ending. SUCH AMAZING SONGS. Kenshi Yonezu really never fails to deliever, and after the amazing opening he did for the 1st season, he does not 1, but 2 amazing songs for the movie (with the 2nd one being a collab). Like, I just came back from the cinema now, but I have Iris Out ever since then, it's just that good, and it's structure is so crazy, that it perfectly fits the anime, because Chainsaw Man is just like that, a crazy anime, with a really good story. And the ending theme, after witnessing Reze's death, after she said she would also want to be at school (especially if Denji was there too), just hit so hard, I just hold up my tears because I was in a public space, and had to catch the bus after that. I remember that after the 1st season, I was a bit undecided with the score I was giving it, because there were some aspects to the story that made me question if the anime really was going to be able to build up on what it had. Nevertheless, I gave the 1st season a 10/10 as a vote of trust that the anime would only go up from there. And this movie proved that I did the right thing giving this vote of trust. I remember being worried that Denji's character wouldn't get more explored, especially considering all he went through, and this movie explored exactly that. I really couldn't ask for more. For me, this movie really shows why I love anime so much. It's for stories like these, that leave a mark in your heart, stories that you'll think 4 months for now, in a random night, while you're trying to fall asleep, so you start watching clips or videos about that story, just to once again relive and in a way share that story. This movie has the perfect mix of comedy, drama, action, suspension and romance. And being this perfectly mix is not easy to achieve. This movie just hits the mark in every aspect. For being this good, I have no doubt about giving this movie a 10/10, and moving the overall series to one of my top 10 anime. Now, let's me just sob while listening to "Jane Doe", and bop while hearing "Iris Out", in this post-movie depression, while we wait for the 2nd season this anime deserves to get. I'm more curious than ever to know what's happening next in the story. Also, I can't forget to say how happy I am to revisit Chainsaw Man after 1 year and a half, I really missed it, and I now understand once again why it brought me back to watching anime more regularly again.

There is nothing else to describe this movie besides Beautiful, Emotional and Exhilarating! This movie has not only pushed the boundaries in anime movies production, but also made me respect and appreciate the creators and animators that allowed my eyeballs to view and hear this masterpiece. This movie is nothing but amazing and I haven’t even talked about the phenomenal story that follows Denji and Reze! Reze and Denji’s story in this movie is a tragic mix of love, deception, and lost freedom. Reze represents the warmth and freedom Denji has always longed for a glimpse of a normal, happy life beyond violence. Yet beneath that dream lies deception and inevitability, showing how the world constantly denies him genuine love or peace. Their fleeting bond reflects two broken people briefly finding humanity in each other, only for that hope to be crushed by the forces that own them. Ultimately, their story becomes a symbol of how innocence and affection can’t survive in a world ruled by manipulation and power. I loved this movie and highly recommend it for anyone :) ![]()

Is mainstream anime finally getting interesting??? A film that really is just about despair and trying to look past how hopeless everything feels, managing to finally add romance and drama into shonen and it delivers quite excellently. Denji's whole perspective on figuring out attraction and love makes his scenes with Reze so much more interesting. The action too is really good, there is a lot more action than necessary, like 10 minutes more than we needed as the final act does drag on a bit because of it. Honestly all I wanted from this film was good music, pretty colours, a good story, a cat trying to scratch a shark and a flying shark. I think I got everything that I needed, cannot wait to experience more grief in season two whenever that is. :D

Ngl. This has to be the one movie that dethrones Kung Fu Panda's insane fighting coreography on that one bridge fight of the furious 5 vs Tai long. That one scene from kung fu panda has been to me one of the best fight and most insane coreography i've seen in any animated movie ever. This is like that scene, but for like 30 minutes, it was a visual spectacle. I laughed more than anything during this movie thanks to Denji's dumb comments, every other feeling was already taken from me on this arc becuase i read the manga a while ago, back when part 1 finished and i thought the story ended there. I think my biggest gripe with CSM is having read the manga. I wouldn't have imagined they would do this insane level of artistic expression with all the meaningful scenes of Denji's and Reze's relationship being built (even if it was fake). That alone makes the movie worth watching even if you already know the story like the back of your hand.

The film is a direct continuation of the first season; however, unlike the series, it provides an unparalleled story, with impeccable animation and a soundtrack that will move everyone. Reze's Arc is, without a doubt, one of the best cinematic experiences I've ever had. The film begins with an incredible romance, following the development of the main characters in the context of love and their own experiences (Reze and Denji), and ends with an epic battle accompanied by breathtaking music. The pool scene with Reze teaching Denji to swim is beautiful, from its construction to its conclusion. Reze, like Denji, is just a teenager who couldn't have the common experiences of every child. This scene demonstrates the truest purity, with two young people enjoying their youth that was taken from them. Without a doubt, I would watch it again.

| @Haunt88 apparently you do, because your only complaint to justify such a ridiculous score is being blinded by animation that's too difficult for you to follow (I can count on one hand how many complaints I've read about it) And generic battle shounen? | @Haunt88 Are we running entirely off of vibes at this point? If it was trying to be generic battle shounen, then it failed miserably by spending half the film on decidedly not-generic-battle-shounen content. And if it was trying to be generic battle shounen, then it shouldn't have bothered trying to create sympathy or nuance to their relationship. May as well make it a lesson for MC Denji to never fall for women outside of his toxic workplace, like he should just focus on gains-maxxing!!! bro. It's also funny you should bring up the budget, considering Demon Slayer spent 5 times Chainsaw's budget just to create a comparable film. It's like you're trying to get us to find more reasons to glaze CSM. |

@--Luminous-- This entire budget agenda is ridiculous!! That Yahooo prediction was based on Look Back's production. CSM movie is easily well over 600 million Yen, said by Shinsaku Kozuma (veteran animator at Mappa) also you should check out the thread made by STEVM on this matter

@Anime_Skaddiel Tell me what 600 million yen is in USD, then look at what IMDB and every other site is reporting Demon Slayer's budget as. That's right. ~$4 mill vs ~$20 mill. And we aren't even getting into the promo budget, which is indisputably lopsided towards DS.
