I liked how Mitaka dealt with being engaged now. It was a nice couple of scenes. But then slammed my bed when Kyoko saw Godai and Kazue and muttered, "This is so stupid." Just lazy storytelling right there. What are the chances even that she'd be there right as they kissed? He's not even staying at his apartment at the moment, so it's not like they'd likely be taking the same route through the city.

that ending shot of Kyouko looking like she's having a mental breakdown with tense music/sounds playing was crazy. I didn't think she'd have so much faith in Godai, or be that affected by him kissing someone. seemed out of character, but from a filmmaking perspective it was cool to see something so different from the rest of the show :)

I thought Asuna gonna tell him to disengage but I guess that's not gonna happen since Kyoko already declined, that would have made him stay single.

Man why did she had to kiss right in front of Kyoko...

Slight change in art style and bump in animation flow - looked good, not movie levels but best so far.

Way more serious tone in this episode than even in the previous one, you know we are closing on in the end game here.

Mitaka san denying Godai san's wishes for happiness drew tears to my eyes. He had every right to deny it though :(

It was great to watch how Asuna san put all the puzzle pieces together, from the tennis pic and the damaged trophy, and figured out that she was the second place trophy, she is a smart girl. Just because someone smiles, doesn't mean they are happy.

Now that Mitaka san is out of the picture, the tenants try to push Kyoko-Godai relationship forward - but Kyoko san is the usual hard headed herself again. I don't understand why Kyoko san was questioning herself; "Why did I come to see Godai san?" He would be happy just to see a glimpse of you!

Kozue chan looked lovely as ever but I guess they have to end her story too, tha's why she is back now. How occassionally have Godai san and Kozue chan actually been seeing? Not at all on screen I say.

Wow. We got to really see Mitaka go from a rich cocky guy go down to being a human who has personal issues deep down. Basically Mitaka is stuck in a formal engagement now with no possibility of just leaving Asuna. So he realizes he needs to let Kyoko go. He meets with Godai at the park and admits he's probably not the right man for Kyoko then he leaves. We got to see some more backstory from when Mitaka was in 9th grade he got 2nd place in a Tennis Tournament and he smiled as if he was happy. Asuna told him that he still has that same unhappy fake smile around her, acknowledging that she knows that Mitaka is unhappy and doesn't really love her. THEN finally Mitaka gets along with her and realizes that what she said was true and that they both need to make happiness for themselves and he decided to move on from Kyoko. Settling down with the sweet Asuna and doing what they both can to make things work and to learn to love one another. He was just drained and tired of chasing after someone who didn't share feelings for him like he did for Kyoko. So he chose to grow up and settle down with Asuna. I seen it coming but I can't believe it finally happened. I felt kinda sad when he said, "Goodbye, Ms. Otanashi". So we see Kozue once again with a guy she went to school with who wants to marry her. Kozue then decides to go see Godai and try to win his heart by kissing him in hope's to screw over his closeness to Kyoko, quite selfish.
@VengefulAura Adding to all that, Mitaka's own family were saying he's "always been cheerful", and Mitaka was sitting there thinking about how no one really knew how much he cried that day. His whole life, everyone around him has seen him as an emotionally invincible man with everything together. When Asuna addressed that he was smiling the same way that night as he did in the old photo, that's when his barriers came down. It was at that moment when he realized she's the one woman who truly understands him, and he was then able to finally let Kyoko go. Beautiful scene. I'm crying.

I rooted for Mitaka during these last episodes and... I'm satisfied the way things turned out. As others commented, this scene with him and Asuna was magnificent. The best thing about Asuna is that she shows understanding. She is compassionate and can read his feelings - and that's a great quality in order to sustain a relationship in the long run. So, the way things turned out... I think it's nice for both of them.

As for Kozue - I'm glad we get to see her again. I liked her from the start - just because she was cheerful and kind-hearted. Or for the simple fact that I always tend to root for the secondary characters, the outsiders, the underdogs. She won't end up with Godai of course, but I hope she keeps her smile to the end. Few more episodes left, let's see how this all turns out! This series was a pleasure to watch.

bro does the author fucking hate godai.

the last scene was some evil shit. my man can't catch a break.

misunderstanding after misunderstanding and this time it won't be easily fixable.

we haven't seen kozue in what last 15-20 episodes? and all of sudden she appears and fucks everything up. even distracting him from exams. you really think he won't think about the kiss now? came and doomed my boy.

its sad but mitaka has officially given up on kyouko. huge respect to him for giving the marriage a chance and not wanting to be hung up on kyouko. at least he has accepted that he needs to start moving on from her. it will take time but he will get there. i hope they both have a happy marriage. i'm sure asuna will take good care of shun, she seems like she will make a great wife and she clearly cares a lot about shun. im guessing shun will fall for asuna in the coming years easily.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

I fell off of this show last week, I wanna say that’s the first time that’s happened since I started it, not a bad track record honestly lol, but I’m so close to the end now so it’s not a big deal. This is also the first episode of Winter 1988, it’s gettin’ cold out for the folks back then but this drama is hot and heavy lol.

First off, hell yeah Mitaka has a Beatles album, and not just any album, it’s their “Magical Mystery Tour” album, I love the direct reference there, and a fun fact about this album, there’s an OST in one of Urusei Yatsura’s episodes during a scene with Oyuki that is pretty much just the title track to that album, I guess someone in the staff must be a big fan of it lol. Besides that little bit of trivia, I really liked how Mitaka’s moments with Asuna were done here, as well as his final conversation with Godai before they parted ways. I think overall Mitaka’s way of ending up with Asuna could have been done better, like I wish Asuna could have won him over a little bit before he married her, but that scene in the bedroom man, that was chef’s kiss, I liked the parallels to when Mitaka won that 2nd place trophy compared to now, yeah maybe that smile is similar but if Asuna can make Mitaka laugh like that, I think they’re gonna be alright.

Now the Kozue drama in this one was wild, they really decided to have her disappear for a while and then have her come back just to stir the shit one last time, I don’t like this treatment of my girl Kozue lol. And it’s still not entirely clear, are Godai and Kozue still a thing? How has he not broken things off with her yet? He’s in deep with Kyoko at this point so I thought they had simply split up off screen, but it’s looking like that’s not the case. Well as much as one would probably want to blame Kozue or get mad at her, this once again is a Godai blunder, he could have broken up with Kozue before this point but he didn’t, and now Kyoko witnessed that kiss, it was a cute moment for Kozue but from Kyoko’s POV it looked like a horror movie lol. Oh well, at least this drama is spicy, this might be the last bit of big drama in the show too so might as well enjoy it, and as a fan of Kozue, I’ll enjoy her last bits of screen time too.
