First you believed in that one of 10 announcements it will be announcement of 3 season and you get nothing. Second you believed in that 10 announcement it will be announcement of 3 season and get nothing. Next you believed in that you get some announcement at Dengeki Spring Festival 2015 and you get nothing. Now you blievie in 11 announcement and that it will be announcement of 3 season.

Season 3 is at least another 2-3 years away, producing a 24 episode season takes time but I highly doubt JC just drops the Index and Railgun series permanently like that the series is too popular let alone Misaka Mikoto individually. We just have to wait.. a really really long time.

Since the Index series is pretty popular, I really hope this isn't the case, but this is just a trend I noticed how most companies won't finish adapting anime from their LN sources.

TBH, I think it would be ok if they ended the anime at vol 22. It is the closure of such big arc and it wouldn't leave that feeling of "...ok, so what? This is it?" like season 2 had. But I doubt they would be able to fit everything that is left up to that point in one season of 24/26 eps, and they would mess up really amazing stuff if they tried to smash it all together to accomplish that. Also, if they have any intention to continue the anime into the New Testament, they would need to animate some side stories in the third season that introduces some key characters of NT, or else the NT anime would become a mess. Perhaps that's one of the reasons they are holding back in doing a third season?

the problem is that to cover the rest of old testament
an anime season of 24/26 episode won't be enough at all it will be too rushed
the second season did take 7 volume in about 23 episode "the ss volume was in one volume i feel they just wanted to show hamazura " and still it was rushed

to do it properly they need a 26 episode from vol 14 -19 "the dragon arc "
the word war iii arc is long i believe it's need about 15 anime episode alone
the ss2 let it be an ova "they can't skip that volume it is important "

new testament is a different story for a different time

I see a patern in the series

Toaru Majutsu no Index: Season1 ended 2009, Season 2 ended 2011, Movie 2013

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun: Season 1 ended 2010, Season 2 Ended 2013
(Starting date is same as ending dates in difference between each movie/anime)

If this patern still follows we just may have a chance when it bocomes winter, if we follow the patern of per 2 years 1 Index series (New set of anime). Otherwise, we may have a LAST CHANCE next year, following the 3 year pattern of the Railgun series)

NOTE: these are just assumptions, but my gues is if it doesn't come next year, good bye 1 of my favorite animes
