I'm planning out what to read for the Light Novel Exposure Challenge, and I'm struggling with the 'read a doujinshi novel' item. Is there a list somewhere of novels that were published as doujin...? Would novels not listed on MAL count for this item?

I'm also really confused by some of the instructions on the challenge. Namely: 'This challenge can be attempted twice per difficulty. For this you have to complete all difficulties (three separate attempts) once.' The challenge only lists 25 items, no difficulties, so I'm not sure how to interpret this statement.

Actually, while I'm at it, when it says to read a novel published in certain years (for example, between 1990 and 1999) does the entire run of the light novel have to have been completed within those years, or is it like it typically is in the AWCc and what it means is that the light novel *started* publishing between those years? (The former really narrows the possibilities, especially for ln published before 1990 that are actually available in English.)

I'm asking my team. A little research from myself did find a few. Like, very few. I only know The Doll (or anything not manga from Guilt|Pleasure) would be counting. I am not sure how the availability for the others is, though. We might have to replace this item. I'll get back to you once I hear from my team members.
The only things I found was this on manga-updates. Maybe a google search brings more.



Yeah, that's the blueprint for the x2 attempt. If a challenge doesn't have difficulties, you read it as one difficulty. So you can complete the challenge twice without worrying about anything else.

Regarding the Numbers Challenge:
Is Manhua or Manhwa allowed? Or is Manga only accepted?

Regarding the School Challenge:
Are Manga under the School Theme list the only ones accepted? Or will there be consideration given to manga/manhwa that fit that theme, but have not received that tag? For instance, Kamibukuro-kun wa Koishiteru and Look Back both revolve around a school setting, yet they do not have the School tag.

Regarding the Manhwa Exposure Challenge:
Similar to the School Challenge, will certain genres be accepted when the manhwa clearly fits that genre/theme but has not yet been listed with that genre/theme?
Also, there are quite a few manhwas specified under suspense and time travel, though there isn't a category for them. Will those be considered under a similarly stated theme/genre?

This is my first time trying manga challenges, so I appreciate any clarification given and will adjust accordingly. Thank you!

Manhua and Manhwa are allowed, if they fit.

Unfortunately they are only valid with tags, as it would be a hassle to check each of them individually. You can try and edit an entry/their genres and themes and a database mod will look over it - maybe it will be changed. I know mangaupdates lists "Kamibukuro-kun wa Koishiteru" as school, but for these genre challenges please stick with the MAL-DB. (I am aware how frustrating this can be.)

Entry number 24 for the Manhwa Exposure Challenge asks us to read a thriller, historical or sports manwha, but I couldn't find a Thriller category under that database's manga genres or themes. I definitely might have just missed it, so you can disregard the question if I'm wrong, but if not, then could we use a Suspense defined manhwa in place of Thriller? I was also curious if a Time Travel based manhwa could be considered for a Historical manhwa, though I know those are 2 separate categories in the MAL database. If not, maybe that could be considered for an entry in the challenge, since I've come across quite a few manhwa that have a Time Travel theme.

Thank you for clarifying my other questions. I can understand how difficult and time-consuming it would be to look over every entry individually, so I will definitely consider editing some entries in case a database mod agrees with the change.

Ah, yeah. MAL got rid of the thriller genre a while ago, which is just dumb. That challenge still needs a fix, as other challenges do. Thriller will probably be replaced by suspense as it makes the most sense.
Time Travel & historical is a bit icky, as it is basically the same issue with the aforementioned question regarding genres. I will note it down and look into it.

For the Shounen ai chalenge can I use manhwa that aren't on MAL and just link to Manga Updates? I want to use Interview With a Murderer for the item "Read a psychological or demons manga".

@rosemagic Only titles listed on MAL count for the genre challenges, unless it is explicitly stated otherwise. It's probably not listed in the MAL db because it's web only I think. If that's still a criteria for manhwa being added or not. ;)
