Back in Asia in the 90s and early 00s, there were some anime dubbed in my native language including Digimon 01 and 02 along with some obscure late 80s and early/mid 90s anime. So I was already into anime back then just by watching these on TV. But in terms of being serious about watching anime, that would be around early 2010s when I moved to Europe. There were so many English fansub groups back then so I decided to pick up lots of popular anime shows, as well as some niche ones in the slice of life genre. Ever since then I've been watching anime more than I could think. Picked up some Japanese along the way (though still cannot speak it in a conversation lol).

These were on American broadcast TV. No such thing as cable back then. I probably hadn't hit Kindergarten yet. Anime is no Johnny-come-lately

@joemaamah AstroBoy is a classic, possibly one of the reasons why Japanese animation blew up across the world, and why it brought up anime like Cyborg 009.

Ghibl movies when I was very young, then Akira and some OVA's when I was a teenager that my mate's brother showed us (mainly because they had violence and boobs). Then looked into anime in 2012 when I discovered it was all available to stream online.

@ItsAmsyar I feel this, as when I had cable tv, I'd watch a lot of my anime from there till 2014 when I had a phone and I'd start using streaming apps.

That must have been interesting but weird at the same time. I mean, I don't mind looking into things where research is needed, but group work is where I suck at lol

Yeah same, I was never fan of group projects, especially when it comes to communication between the group members.
@pk8list and you see, that is the main reason why I could never do group projects. It would basically comedown to this: I was too introverted to actually talk to most people so I never bothered trying and if I were to work in a group project, it would probably end up like one of my rounds in Call of Duty or League of Legends meaning, I would hate dealing with the slackers in my group.

There was that one mmo game called ragnarok i used to play when i was young, on of my friends told me that it has a cartoon and i should watch it, the anime itself wasn't that good but for me it was good enough to start watching other anime.
@Xenofight I remember that game, is it still around? I assume it would be if it had a big following.

Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon were my introduction. I also read manga online as a kid.
@LuxuriousHeart The 90's were amazing, glad most people got into anime during the Shonen and Mecha era, then we would go onto the era of Moe and Magical Girl.

My anime journey began in 2006 with Inuyasha and Bleach, which I eagerly watched every early morning. My uncle introduced me to Naruto and Death Note, and I quickly followed his lead.

However, it wasn't until mid-2016 that I truly became immersed in anime. A classmate recommended Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Death Parade, and I was completely captivated ! White Album 2 and Oregairu solidified my love for the medium.

While I don't watch anime as frequently now, it remains a significant part of my entertainment history.

@TheAnimeLogician Well, I was a little kid so it was probably the effect of imprinting. But try and watch it anyway, it's quite thought-provoking despite its childish theme.

the very first time was in 2016 when I heard about it from my favorite youtuber at the time, she'd talk about anime often, saying "Bokura ga ita" was her favorite. I wanted to try it out too so that's where I started. from then on I'd watch some anime here and there but nothing too crazy. I started watching it fairly regularly in 2021 when I was living with my then partner who's a big weeb and we'd watch it together often

@_Crimsonia_ I had that same energy with various romance anime titles, its almost as if the creator was trying to troll their fans into thinking this one character was best girl xD and Pokémon will always be GOATED. One of the greatest anime of all time.
@TheAnimeLogician FACTS. The creator must've been rubbing his hands together like some evil ass scientist, knowing full well the viewers would lose their shit. Like I was absolutely livid at the fact the girl who had the best moments with the MC ended up losing quite miserably. She was such a sweetheart too ... like GODDAMN just thinking about it makes my blood boil 😭😭😭. I couldn't accept that she was cast aside in favor of the plain girl, so I had to rewatch it a few times and delude myself into thinking she could still win the MC's heart LMAO.

Always nice to meet a fellow Pokémon fan :)

I watched DB, pokemon, CCS, B-daman, digimon, samurai X, sailor moon, ghibly stuff, this and few others(captain harlock, the rc car anime) that were airing on tv at the time.
Around 5th visited family that was on another country and cousin had a good collection of anime dvds so i took my time watch quite a few of those and 6th grade had a friend where his dad used to dl stuff through emule or limewire and burn it on dvd.
After getting my pc in highschool, i asked a colleague of mine to fill several of my USB drives with anime since i didn't have internet and about a few months later i got internet and been the same since then.
Good memories

@boredzura Well essentially when I reviewed it I considered giving it a 7 out of 10 due to the crappy amount of filler thrown into the mix and overall, the cliffhanger that was given to us for 5+ years?

Essentially, I assumed Naruto was better than Bleach till I had to rewatch all of Naruto as I had missed some key features and guess what? My first analyzation of Naruto was somewhat off.

Naruto had lots of filler during season 4 and season 5. Season 2 was where the filler began with one episode being filler and that is why I consider Season1 and season 3 to be the best within the Naruto series.

It would then come to my attention that Bleach would redeem itself by animation the final arc and therefore making me reconsider my rating and instead giving it a 9 out of 10 instead.

As for Naruto? Boruto was way off on hitting its mark, I tried to get into season 1, but I was just exhausted with all the little detail that was missed and how some of the things thrown into Boruto made no sense.

Also, I still love Inuyasha, as I have all the original DVDs in my anime collection, as well as the blue rays that were sold two years ago. I also have every Inuyasha theme on Spotify and honestly, it's just a God Tier anime for me.

Everyone on the internet said it sucked tho and the anime is better. I really liked the story, so I decided to watch the anime version to compare the two. The rest was history. I discovered that I had fallen in love with anime as an art form and a medium for storytelling. Spy x Family was popping off at the time, so I watched that, and just kept digging myself a deeper hole...lol. Next I watched Nagatoro and loved it. Then...my life changed. I found my true love, my Oshi if you will. Birdie Wing: Golf Girls Story. The fourth anime I had ever watched just so happened to be the greatest anime I have ever watched. It still stands today as the GOAT. No anime I have seen since, has topped it. I got this feeling of pure hype, of unchecked excitement. No other anime has made me feel the way Birdie Wing does, and I have been chasing that feeling ever since. @TheAnimeLogician Yeah, fillers are the worst! It's such a common thing in long shounen anime. It was so disappointing waiting all week for a new episode only to find out it was filler, haha. I couldn't wait five years for Bleach—I was getting spoiled left and right—so I ended up reading the manga. It's funny how much less filler there is in the manga.
