I'll give you that, in any case, I should have said "How can people pick EDM over Jazz in those particular matchups?". Just because I like both genres and, as I said, there is good and bad stuff in both.
However, your argument is going against yourself since Jazz has a bigger repertoire of notes than EDM, and also there is a larger amount of Jazz artists who are qualified classics, EDM exists since early 70s, so the argument of the genre being new would be dumb.
I for one, I am not usually fond of the EDM that's generally used for the contest, not just because of tastes, but the music itself. Even if I weren't really fond of a song in regards to tastes, I can tell whether it is a good one or a bad one.
Gordon Ramsay should go back to the kitchen.
Whats the point of all of this? You made a question and I answered it.
The reason why you and any person would make such questions is because the biased thought that such types of music are superior than the other ones, and that doesnt necessarily come from the fact that jazz is older than edm, but because whilst it was aging people were atached to it
Is harder to make a jazz/classical song rather than an edm song? Is. Does that make it better? No. It makes it harder. ''But making still makes it better'' No, its just makes it harder.
And that's it.
You know why everybody talks about Shakespeare but no one reads about it? For that same reason. This meaningless mentality creates a stigma that makes people think something created before is better not because its old by itself but that is created an unconcious respect for it being old.
Let me be straight with you. EDM can and will be chosen over Jazz because EDM is more interesting than Jazz. There can be made good Jazz songs, yes. But that is redundant to say because anything can be used as a tool to create something of quality.
Another analogy would be the LoL x DotA dispute when it was a thing. Everywhere you could go you would see people talking about DotA being better than LoL. Yet LoL was and still is the most played game in the world. See I am not saying that LoL is better because of its population, but LoL having such a population is a reflect of it being better.
Being more accessible is being better.
As a matter of fact, the most talented thing always came easily from persons who were at ease and inspired rather than effort and exhaustion. Ever watched the movie Amadeus? I've never heard of the name of the protagonistin my life, but I always heard the name of the antagonist in my life. And it makes sense, since for the antagonist (Mozart) it was ease to create things, whilst was always a chore for the protagonist (i dont remember his name).
The right question is not ''Why people would vote in EDM instead of Jazz'' but the other way around. Since people that work with EDM are always in a more euphoric (therefore more joyful, and therefore getting more inspiration) ambient than someone who works with jazz, that is a genre that is serene by nature, so by nature already fails, since hearing music - and anything you do in your life - is to feel more happyness than you were feeling a moment ago.
Shit, its another redundancy to say that if you feel better hearing jazz than you are hearing edm. Than hear jazz. But if your consciousness was created right now (not your body, but your self aware of your existence) which of these genres you think it would more exhilerating to hear?
And off from the subject, but still insight. That is how the concept of elitism/criticism alienates people.
