The story focuses a lot on Subaru's growth as a person. At episode 13 he's at his lowest point, being full of pride from the prior arcs and acting incredibly selfishly. His character is rather complex and the novels expand a lot on what he thinks and feels at each individual moment of the story. Emilia, being the only main character besides Subaru, plays a big role in the story too. Her initial uselessness in the first few arcs is used in her character development.

The "end goal" of the story is basically to reach a happy ending and for Subaru to live peacefully with the ones he love (romantically or not).

I am not sure if that answered to what you call "meaning", so tell me if I missed the mark.

Subaru is an idiot, but Emilia needs to stop acting pathetic and helpless. It's annoying. What happened to the version of her from episode one? Is blushing and squirming in embarrassment all she can do now? If she's not going to stand up for herself, like the other candidates, it's not unexpected for someone else to stand up for her.

Still, that ending, that was painful. Subaru might have legit mental issues.

That was a wild episode, and Subaru did some stupid stuff and nearly got himself killed again. And now because of that interaction between him and Emilia, they aren't as close as they were before.

That was just crazy of Subaru to even think about accepting the challenge of a knight.

MC really didn't learn anything from last story arc or is it more like a personality reset. He had a story arc with growth(character arc) and once the story arc was done, so was the growth... Now he has to do another character arc to fix it

No order or nuance to these royal election proceedings whatsoever. You'd think this would be formal procedure with neutral parties and attentive guards present to mediate things, but everyone involved has zero impulse control, and they constantly flew off the handle to fight or disrupt the event, with no apparent consequences incurred for doing so. Even the esteemed Lugunica knights have all the composure of a rabid dog on crack. Did this royal selection even achieve anything, or was it just a narrative excuse to frame Subaru in a pathetic state?

Subaru was a riot though. His lack of situational awareness, entitlement, respect and general disregard for anything resembling composed behaviour always generates laughs.

Excellent episode, so far Subaru has achieved positive results although he had problems like dying, not having a good plan, etc but in this episode everything is downhill.
His impulsiveness, anger, pride, etc that we see throughout the anime, here makes everything go wrong, although he wants to help her.... sometimes he doesn't sit down to think if he is doing the right thing or doesn't accept that he made a mistake, for example when he disrespects the knights.
Emilia is right in not having as much confidence in him when he doesn't do something as simple as obeying/fulfilling a promise.
It must be painful to not be able to express your ideas and emotions well (here it's literally painful haha) but you also can't expect others to understand you, like Subaru does with Emilia and the worst thing is that sometimes when we are frustrated we say or do things that are not true (although sometimes they are) or in this case (at least my interpretation) he expressed himself wrong, when he tells her everything he did for her and what he owes her, it seems that he really owes her everything but I think he said it like: why don't you trust me, if I did all this. .. well, I think the episode deserves another look but I'm not going to do it, I'll keep the said..... we'll see if in the future I discover something new or change my mind.

PS: Felt wins the game of thrones, the chaos he is going to create haha.

PS2: It's an anime worth talking about all the characters
