Loved it, in my top 3 series of this season.

๐Ÿ’ฅใ€ฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ

A solid plot that was a roller coaster of emotions from beginning to end.

I loved this detail of Unio's horn glowing and connecting dimensions for a brief moment so Natsuko could see them.

6.5/10 for me. (Will round-up to 7 on MAL-- Plus points for making me want to see a real A Tale of Perishing movie. xD)
This is basically an Anime's take on classic 'Fairy Tale' story.

Negatives: Weak and seemingly rushed start with a very basic and underwhelming ending; The phase of the 9 Heroes doubting Natsuko, and Luke falling for her felt like it both needed more time to be established satisfyingly, Memeln's part happened a bit too early for it to make an emotional impact, and the ending... (sigh)... it showed promise of being a substantial finale but ultimately... it was just a rushed generic 'Dream' ending; The elves risked their lives reviving QJ just so he could be a flashlight to Natsuko for a few seconds. xD

Positives: Of course, the very elegant and shiny looking Art and Animation stands out, overall high quality production, and the middle emotional part was quite good as well, especially during the breaking point of Luke.

(I was about to say, "I'll check out the Manga at some point." but I just learned it's a TV original. *_* Pretty good for a TV OG series, to be fair.)

@perseii I think it's not rushed and pretty clear on what happened.

She fixed the sad ending. She didn't actually fix the original storyline which the Void killed everyone, the original show ended there but she made the continuation story after that, just like fanfiction where an author made when they don't like how the original story ended.

She didn't die in real world, woke up, and finish the First Love movie because she now already knows what first love is like which was the reason she can't proceed, she didn't have any experience regarding love and keep asking the staffs about their first love lol.

Most importantly she also learned to rely more on the other people and begin to appreciate their efforts.
LeonLanford said:

What is the new ending? Luke turned into a Void, and then a different Luke killed the Void..? Did the ending to the Tale of Perishing movie change?

How did she accomplish this? She was drawing like crazy, but the Lukes kept dying. Did she just draw "extra hard" at the end there? Was that what tipped the scale?

And everything turned back to normal and everyone came back? Why? Did Natsuko or anyone know that's what was going to happen? Did she specifically write that happening?

Whatever happened, it's just not satisfying to me. Writing fan-fiction that doesn't even make sense is how you become a better artist and find peace within yourself..? What's the anime even trying to say here?

LeonLanford said:

Yes, we can guess this is what happened, because that's how these stories usually go. But the anime didn't show any of this. As if it's not worth talking about, even when completing First Love was supposed to be the big goal of the entire story...

Natsuko fades away, and the very next scene is her working on her post-First Love project. They really should've spent more time here with Natsuko, after she went through so much and the anime threw around so many ideas. And then it just ends.

All of this is "functional" at a bare minimum, I guess, but it's just so glossed-over and doesn't really have much deeper meaning or impact.

Hoping for a special or two to truly wrap up all the loose ends.
Would be nice to see Natsuko waking up, surprising the others when she comes back to work with her attitude change and at least a small interaction with Luke in the realm of reality.

It wasn't a perfect anime but it will stay with me.
Get excited, I suppose.

They were pretty lazy on animating Natsoku animating this episode, they just used live feed of the animators animating JJK S2. Jokes aside was a fun show nothing incredible but one of the few shows i actually finished this season so thats something. Tales of Perishing seems dark af if thats how it was supposed to end, would love to see a manga or LN adaptation of it uninterrupted by isekai. Can't wait for season 2 w/ the reverse isekai element instead, and they can be a buncha bozos working in an animation studio.

That was fine. I'm glad than an anime not based on something directly can still get made in this day and age but calling this "original" feels pretty fraudulent. Isekai truly is a creatively bankrupt genre that cannot seem to break away from its extremely well-trodden archetypes and tropes. Zenshuu felt like it was going somewhere interesting before the reveal near the end but then it just ends with "oh yeah, true love wins and whatever. Nothing was really at stake. MC learns her lesson and goes home happy." and then the show just ends. That was clearly the story that the staff wanted to tell since there aren't really any loose ends or underdeveloped storylines that more time would have fleshed out. This is just Makoto Shinkai syndrome in a 12 episode anime instead of being a movie.

I guess I sound quite negative here and honestly I'm disappointed that this series didn't go anywhere interesting but that disappointment hit about 3-4 episodes ago and I'm fine with it ending as a completely generic isekai with 0 stakes like all the rest. I suppose my actual gripe is with the entire genre and nothing specific to this series.

Every week, I came into it expecting it to be the week where I saw through it and would be able to take it down and punch holes through what I was seeing, and from episode six, every week I was the one getting punched, right in the gut, right in the feels. I had to move my rating up because just a good show shouldn't be making me hide my teary eyes from my kids behind a cushion.

It's fair to say I got invested in these characters.

Now I need a sequel called "Welcome to Japan, Mr. Legendary Hero!" (I hope nobody made this same joke yet.)

BUT HOORAY FOR HAPPY ENDINGS! SHUT UP BIRD! This story absolutely deserves it.

Zenshuu (Also just found out now that it basically means "fix" wow.) really became one of my favorites this season, originally dismissing it at the start. We were making fun of the show for the irony of telling the story of an overworked animator while being made by MAPPA, but it wasn't about that at all.

I am so close to being satisfied, but I needed more epilogue, I needed to see Natsuko interact with the Nine Soldiers, especially Luke in the "Kingdom of Reality."

I love that the Luke that Natsuko knows personally is the most powerful one which was able to beat the Ultimate Void, that was Luke at his best, all in his naked glory.

Also, unexpected Destiny x Justice ship? Hell yeah.

I don't think the show needs a sequel, cause I think this is gonna be hard to top, but hell, I would love to have even just a few more minutes of extra epilogue. Though I ain't going to be complaining at all if they make a slice of life sequel.

It was ok... I liked the build-up more than the resolution, in the end we just got a very basic happy end with not much explanation on how and why everything turned out this way. I think it would make more sense if she just stayed in that world for good without coming back to reality. After all, she seemed convinced that she died there. It might seem like a simpler ending but actually it might have added more complexity since she would have to sacrifice one part of her life (being a great director in reality) in order to obtain the life with her beloved Luke. Now she just basically got both things without any stakes, and it feels a bit hollow.

Without a doubt, if only the average Isekais had even a fraction of this aesthetic value, even with a flawed and repetitive narrative, they would be a great pleasure to watch.

I honestly don't know what to think about this finale episode, felt a bit rushed...I like how big the stakes are and how bleak the situation is in the final episode but ehh i was expecting Natsuko to draw all the Nine Soldiers to fight the Ultimate Void and maybe give them power ups to be able to put up a fight and not just Summoning a number of Lukes.

Zenshu means "Redo it all" so it really confused me when she summoned a bunch of Lukes instead of actually Redo-ing the story. I was thinking maybe she would've rewritten the Bird Director's "A Tale of Perishing" from scratch, and get a boost in drawing speed...But oh well. The Soul Future also came out of nowhere and everyone who died suddenly reappeared along with all the destroyed cities without any proper explanations.

Natsuko's movie Hatsukoi: First Love wasn't even shown what actually made it a hit, felt like she only added clichés to it and nothing else so it's still questionable to me how it became a hit.

Another thing is Unio's horn, how come Natsuko still has it in her original world? So many questions left unanswered. The Bird Director was also still seen flying around when the world came back to it's proper order...Nothing about the Voids' nature and origin were ever explored so there's no telling if they'll come to bite back sometime again.

TLDR: I'm rather dissatisfied with this Epilogue, i couldn't care less about Luke and Natsuko's relationship. I care more about a more in-depth final battle and aftermath which we unfortunately didn't get in this finale.

i hate that i predicted exactly this ending
i quite literally have it written in 2 or 3 comment sections
but that's exactly why i was hoping it wouldn't turn out exactly like this, i tried to foresee variations to it but couldn't, because otherwise it wouldn't make sense. now it kinda feels weird because ut was a sad ending but i alr grieved for it more than a month ago, would've rather be surprised by a twist like her sleeping for a yr in that world and wake up to her marriage but it is what it is. gg guys
also i want an ova based on those last seconds pls ๐Ÿซ

MAPPA should stop wasting resources on those original anime. Their writers sucks. The NPC designs was god awful and incoherent, looked like vomited by chatgpt, story was mess, that constant "zenshu" music cue was god awful, fmc annoying as hell. 10% of frames were top tier, the rest was generic Iseaki slop quality.

When someone asks what an expedient/abrupt ending is, Zenshu will be one of the most accurate definitions. Natsuko defeats the ultimate Void, says goodbye in 2 words because she has to return to reality (why?). Cut. Her life returns to normal. The End... .. Huh?

I loved the series (7.5/10), but I got the impression that they didn't know how to end it or that they didn't have the time to do it right, like ““Shit, we've got 3min (literally) of the episode to wrap it all up””. There was clearly something wrong with the prod' process.

I'm going to miss this show so much. I enjoyed the silly goofiness of it all and the range of cliches/emotions it brought with it.

For everyone who doesn't get it, Zenshu was never supposed to be some exciting show that brings new ideas to the table or anything more than the tried and true ending. It was supposed to be a fun anniversary project that let the studio convey the message that mattered to them most. Aka I'm sure a lot of the animators grew up with a show that inspired them so much they became like Natsuko and wanted to make their own shows! And perhaps they were fan creators themselves who created "fix its" for their own beloved media back then. Bonus points for the enjoyable characters and the amazing animation for this to boot.

Would love to hear what entertainment inspired these animators most to continue doing what they're doing.

I love this comment. Warts and all, the show was enjoyable and clearly a passion project for everyone involved. It was never set to be next JJK, but really highlights the importance that our favourite childhood shows had on us, and that we should never carry burden and pressure all on our own.

Like many, I do agree that the ending felt a little abrupt, given the lengthy build up, but I non the less enjoyed it and will miss looking forward to it on Sundays.

Now THAT is how you end an anime original story. This is how you do a finale. Put our heroes in the most dire of situations, backs against the wall, all hope lost and then give us an amazing come from behind victory. MAPPA put their all star team on this show and it paid off as one of the best anime originals.

Not me predicting exactly how everything would turn out tho ๐Ÿ˜ญ Luke becoming the ultimate void, he and Natsuko love being what brings him back and saves the world. That was always the X factor. He lost the love of his life in the original movie, gained it in this version and Natsuko went back home because she finally experienced her first love. Crazy how right about everything I ended up being but I’m not mad at all because it’s exactly what I wanted!!

Only thing I’m annoyed about is not getting a Luke and Natsuko kiss. Like I get them wanting to go all bittersweet, but cmon I needed that! OVA or spin off manga me please. That “Luke I love you” saved me though.

As expected, Natsuko waking up back in the real world and becoming a more open and kind person, finally seeing everyone in the studio as actual people she can rely on and not just tools to meet a deadline, and she’s wearing her hair up! Somehow the nine soldiers got to reality??! How?! Idk but who cares, I got my Luke and Natsuko reunion now I need to see them married lmao. And yes, that is really them in reality because Unio’s horn is glowing on Natsuko’s head, meaning Unio is really there!!

No I won’t be normal about this series I’m gonna miss them so much ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
@Marinate1016 I agree but I personally think it would have been much better to have Natsuko walking all alone and suddenly she hears Luke´s voice behind her calling for her. Idk, that last scene didn't sit well with me.

It's so nice to see an anime original done right. Well paced, well written, interesting, actually original, and most importantly didn't fumble in the end. I guess some are dissatisfied with the ending, but like what do you expect to happen, ultimate void has to get summoned and we need to get a happy ending. That being said a bittersweet ending could have been done, with a message that once an anime is out everything is set in stone. But the plot was more about Natsuko and others overcoming their shortcomings so yeah.

Anyway ez anime of the season from me

@perseii Because just like the bird director said, no matter what she does, she can't change the original story. The original story ended when Luke turned into the void and kill everyone. She just continue the story after that.

Not everything need to be explained, subtle hint like Unio's horn is an application of "show, don't tell" writing style. "So that was not a dream! Luke and their friends really existed", which I think what writer intended to tell. Which comes back to the reason why she wanted to fix the ending even though she liked the original story.
