Anne Faulkner from Paradox Live (the anime for it came in 2023) apparently originally was listed as being an "otokonoko" then that was canonically changed to descriptions like "unrestrained by gender" and “man or woman, who cares?” since they seemed to be trying to avoid heavy anime tropeness due to being an interactive multimedia project is my guess since real people identifying as otokonoko while it is a thing probably isn't so widespread it would be more common than other terms. Going only anime this isn't conveyed very clearly though even in episode 4 with Anne's backstory it didn't seem clear. Only other sources convey this more clearly. Likely different from what OP is looking for but it helps highlight I think some character types are being made more nuanced.

Of course, there are alot of traps in anime. "Traps" as in literal traps for scamming your money, duh.

The trope far from dead. I would even say that there are more now than ever. The difference is that the community doesn't make a fuss about EVERY. SINGLE. ONE OF THEM like they used to and honestly for me that is a net positive. It was getting lowkey annoying.

Ah, this conversation again.

It's truly impressive how fast "trap" became a supposed slur just because it was adopted by an extremely small, but loud, minority of bigots. Of course, the larger issue is that around this time trans discourse had begun shifting towards a denial of biological sex altogether, moving further away from a separation of biological sex and gender. Even if traps in anime were rarely ever canonically trans, the nature of a female presenting person being othered as male/trap by virtue of biological sex alone, began to be viewed as transphobic (in conjunction with trap being used negatively towards trans women) or at the very least, highly regressive.

Of course, the fundamental problem here is that transphobia is being conflated with simple male/hetero sexual preference for females. It's absolutely fair to bring up questions regarding homophobia in this equation, but then trans women would be offended by the implication of being viewed as biologically male. So, in modern terms it's not in any way surprising that "trap" is regarded as a slur in left-leaning circles, but whether there's any validity to that is highly debatable. It also can't be understated that "trap" in anime today is largely hyperbolic, and is not generally regarded with disgust, etc.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Good question. Some of those characters are quite hilarious. My favorites are Reona West from PriPara and Hideri Kanzaki from Blend-S.

Show me a funnier one that would make me laugh more than this, I'll wait.
