It is kinda sad to see how many people name specifically shonen heroes like Naruto or Deku. And honestly, it reflects more on them than on the characters they try to shit on. Of course DO badly written characters exist, but most people here just hate the classic shonen protagonists like said Deku for various reasons. A certain fatigue, since shonen is kind of the starting point of all anime fans, but probably also because they just personally can't connect with them, and therefore they unreasonably blame them. Emiya Shirou from back in the day falls under the same umbrella: a character with noble motivations and pure character, which instantly gets all the hate for being a goody-twoshoes.

I could instead now answer with Itadori Yuuji or Denji, i.E. your 'modern' 3rd generation shonen protagonists, but that would be 1. boring and 2. tonedeaf, because I simply find them to be unlikeable characters and both series bored me enough to not really care about its writing on a deeper level. But what WOULD be a really bad character in terms of writing...? Honestly, even when I think of the anime and manga I consider bad I can't really blame it on the main characters as writing desasters. Perhaps Raku from Nisekoi. The writing around him was so unbelievably bad that I couldn't take him as a character serious anymore.

Thats weird. The theme that the series tried to convey is, "you may be weak, but you can still fight and not give up. " He is a crybaby yet he never gave up to try to save the person he likes and his friends around him, not just Mikey alone. He is weak and can't fight, but he still is the first person to rush during those gangfights. I don't really think you understood the show's message before just deciding to hate on him and call him a pussy who clearly isn't one.

Is this not character development in your eyes, or you just didn't care to even understand the series?

So many wrong answers here!! Deku is fine, just a mouthy boy scout. Asta from Black Clover is easily worse. Naruto starts terrible but actually grows. All the screamers in Demon Slayer also start a lot worse than they end up, at least somewhat.

Personally, it's Loofy though. Gets away with everything no matter what. Someone needs to take that punk down.

@Ghost_Davo Really, the only thing bad about him is he is clumsy. After that he has great friends, a great girlfriend, a loving Family. So define loser there for me? Or did you just drop it after the first 2 or 3 episodes? Because it improves greatly after that. Was definitely a better show than "A Couple Of Cuckoos".

Nah bro. He didn’t mature as much and u call that character development when he still can’t fight even till now. He was getting carried by Mikey and dracken throughout the whole show. The only decent moment was when he led Toman against Tenjuku but even still they got pretty beaten till mikey showed up. This shows he can’t do shit on his own. If u say Takemichi have character development is like saying every single anime character would get development at some point even those that showed up an episode and died straight after

I'll stand by my 1st pick of Shinji from EVA. Of course, he is written that way. I'm talking the OG series. Not the re-written OVAs or movies or whatever they are. The series is NOT hopeful in the end. The movie showed what the last episodes didn't have the budget to animate or to fully animate for you ( you get some flashbacks, like Misato dying alone from blood loss) but it's basically Mankind cannot be saved from Itself. Especially by young teens in Giant Robots. It's what the Author wanted to say. Anyway, Shinji ends up wishing for everyone to die. He literally gets this wish granted in the movie, don't tell me this is a "GOOD" MC! Why? Because he is both a coward & has daddy issues. Well, yes, his Father is a cold blooded jerk & a traitor, there is that. Still, ALL of humanity. And that FINAL scene in the movie. I won't spoil it for you, but you will realize he deserves to be at the top here, more than any typical Shonen MC.

Im currently watching World Trigger and i like em, for example. Osamu is not strong... but i guess he will grow eventually, the story of the anime is pretty complete so far and i like it. Osamu is a cool MC bc he feels pretty human

Yea, solo leveling was a bad show.

Like, the idea of red gates were cool, but when you make everything genetic and pure luck, add on some more things, and then make the strongest person stronger than everyone else combined, then it just doesn't seem as good.

If you watch World Trigger, you'll see that even the strongest of people will lose to 10 good fighters, provided that the strong person is fighting alone.
