Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie
| I heard quite a few people talk about how Shikimori san will be the next best girl after Kitagawa san but I just do not see it. I like her, she is cute and somewhat interesting and not just an archetype. What bugs me is that most of her appeal comes from the comparison to the guy that is just a walking disaster. It is really easy to self insert into the guy who basically can screw everything up but the cute girl still likes him with and only thing that is enough for him is show some meaningless effort. It works on me. But comparing it to just a well rounded character that likes what she likes and the guy that is passionate about his interest is just way better. In dress up darling I have no doubts why those two like each other but when it comes to Shikimori I just do not see her falling in love with this sorry excuse for a man. Long story short, dress up darling is a genuine story with realistic characters while Shikimori san is an exploit of a wish that a lot of guys might have... I can enjoy it and I do, very much so... yet I can not see why this girl elevated but the comparison to this pathetic guy would be able to beat Kitagawa san in best girl competition. As of now Shikimori san is just a cool cutie when put next to a bottom tier guy. DISCLAIMER - it has been just 2 episodes, might change my mind at some point. Do you feel the same? Different? Would like to see some other opinions, maybe I am missing something. |

| I'm still lowkey confused on how Shikimori is overhyped in the first place, maybe I'm following the wrong people on Twitter? But she's not the best girl either, Yor is the BEST GIRL in this season but Yor *may* be inferior to the Chainsaw Man women if we're real talking about who the best girl of the year who knows. |

If we take children or child-like into account, then Anya is not even in the same league, Myne (Bookworm) beats her, but even Aharen-san is better written and more wholesome. And these are just the shows I watch and like, a lot of people would say Komi-San and Raphtalia beats her as well. Yea I agree. I like Marin the best because she is the wish fulfilment but underneath it she is also well-written and is a good match for the protagonist there. Shikimori is the same when you strip the good writting. A personally like Marin the best this year (note, that I love cosplay and girld that are into kinky shit) and I agree about the fanservice. But yea, there are comparable best girl contenders. Do not know about Yor as there was only one episode and I personally do not like "dumb" characters when it is not played for fun as it is with Chika; yet she is minion times more interesting than Shikimory on her own. |

Most likely, because Kaguya's fandom will be very split between the characters and other shows with good Female Leads are just not that popular to compete. However we cannot write-down Shikimori, because it doesn't matter how badly written and bland her character is, she has a large and avid fandom, while those who like Yor, Marin, Kaguya cast, and Komi San are, while the huge majority, probably the same normal anime watchers and their votes will be split. |

| Better to have an invisible male than a herbivore that can't even handle a woman wearing a tank top. Better to have supportive friends instead of a harem. I agree that Marin is more interesting than Shikimori. To be fair though, the first two episodes of Dress-up Darling was just Marin dancing around in a skimpy bikini. If having class and being able to actually communicate with your partner means not being a waifu, then I'll accept Shikimori being overlooked. |

| So far she's not even best girl of this season let alone the year. Problem really is the plot of the anime and Izumi just being just sad. Hoping this gets better but so far it's not living up to the hype. |
| Obviously she's not the best girl of the year, Marin has already taken that spot. As for best girl of the season, Shikimori had a chance but Yor appeared and those chances became null plus, there's competition from Kaguya, Chika and Hayaska and then Raphtalia too and that's just counting the few animes I'm watching this season, there are tons of other good animes this season so the competition for the best girl of the season is fierce, let's see who comes out on top. But anway Shikimori is still a best girl nonetheless, not the best girl of season or year but a best girl, she's literally the perfect girlfriend and has all the best girl qualities. |

| Shikimori is best girl if you have a mommy complex. We'll see if the anime ends up doing her any justice compared to the manga. |
