I think I have a decent poster but I'm not sure how to post it correctly with spoiler tags.

edit: no worries, I did it for you. Now, to create a spoiler tag is as following:
[ spoiler]stuffyouwantinthespoilertag[ /spoiler]
Basically remove the spaces inbetween the tags, and you have yourself a spoiler!

well its pretty obvious that it is Holo...subbers were forced to make a decision between Horo and Holo but once she wrote her name and the creator stated it was Holo there could be no refuting it

You mean when she wrote her name in English cursive and not Japan kanji or katakana. Yeah the scene that was obviously edited in post production couldn't possible be wrong.

As the Japanese phonetic system does not distinguish between "b" and "v" or "r" and "l" (although ヴ can describe "v".) so just stop arguing about it. Technically either for is right.

No. The official site and author have said that the correct localization is "Holo." They cannot both be right because "Horo" is wrong.

'l' do not exist in the romanization of the japanese kana.
Thus her name is romanized as Horo., it's as simple as that.

There is no kana for both 'ro' and 'lo', there is only one for 'ro' which means 'lo' do not exist.
The reason why Horo wrote her name as Holo is because she didn't wrote her name in a romanized japanese, the same way she wouldn't have writen 'makushimu' if her name was actually maxime.

Which means that both are right, her name is Holo but you romanize it as Horo.

Holo is how she would write her name in english, Horo is how her name is romanized from japanese kana.
You only need a small understanding of how the japanese phonetic system and romanization of it work to undertand that.

They may say Horo, and write Horo in japanese kanji where they don't use L, but her name remains the same.
Otherwise Lawrence would be Rorensu and L from Death Note would be Eru?
Light would be Raitu and anyone named Linda or Lisa visiting Japan would be Rinda and Risa but no one is arguing that those are correct spellings.
Their names are still spelled with an L even if they don't pronounce it that way.

If the author created a character and named her Holo with an L, then even if they can't pronounce it properly and everyone just calls her imouto instead, her name would still be Holo.
Her name may be romanized from kanji as Horo, but her name is Holo.

Fansub group and even official sub tend to chose whatever they want without taking care about the coherency as a whole, that is why some character's name will be written in a japanese romanization (also called romaji) while other will be written in their proper english form.
I beleive that is for the esthetic of the sub. Horo or Holo don't have a big change while like you said, a longer name could be ridiculous to keep.

Light is Raito, not Raitu anyway and yes Raito is named Raito, not Light which is his name in english. 'L' is not a name, it's a symbol and thus will stay L no matter which language you translate it into.

The author didn't created her name as an english name, thus making impossible to possibility of her name having a 'L' to begin with.

Now, like I said earlier, both are the same name in two different form.
Horo is the romaji form of her name and Holo is how you would write her name in english, with our letter.

In japan, there is no roman letter (except for a few exception), there is only kana and kanji.
You cannot write Horo as Holo for the simple fact that there is no kana or kanji that once romanized translate to the letter we know as 'l'. The author gave her her name in japanese, and thus it only can translate in what it can translate.

Horo's official name is ホロ which translate to Horo. Now once you translate it to english, and only then, it become Holo because when you translate a name from romaji to english, you rewrite the name as it sound in the language you are translating it.

The only thing you don't seem to understand is that Horo was not writting her name in romaji, she was writting it with roman letter, most probably in english. If she would have written her name how it was in japanese she would have wrote it in Kanji.

Now this is the last time I talk about this here, I've seen many people like you that want to be right because they think they know what they like best than anybody and frankly it is starting to be annoying.
