@valico The Wiru brain rot has just finally consumed him. It keeps the threads entertaining at least.

All of these guys are pushing 40 if not already there what are you on about. Eyepatch Wolf barely makes anime content anymore as well. This list is like 5 years out of relevance homestar.

No fucking way any of these dudes are pushing 40. Going to sound like thewiru saying this shit but who fucking cares... "I should know..." I’m almost fucking 50. lol

All of these fuckers were brats to me, when they started their online shticks back in the 2010s. Even that fucker "Gigguk", is maybe in his early to mid 30s, but most of these kids were literally at least still perpetually shitting in their diapers every day when I was still in high school during the early 90s rocking to shit like "Dirty Pair", "Bubblegum Crisis", "Macross", "Black Magic M-66", "Appleseed", "Dominion", "Wicked City", "Violence Jack: Slumking", "Venus Wars", "Vampire Hunter D", "Robot Carnival", "Project A-Ko", "Neo Tokyo", "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind", "Megazone 23", "Golgo 13: The Professional", "Akira", "Fist of the North Star: The Movie", etc... . lol

"The Anime Man", "Mother’s Basement", "Super Eyepatch Wolf", etc... were all literally in their fucking 20s when they started doing their online shtick. And likely highly doubt anyone would want to watch some brat now, a decade younger than they are, suddenly pop out of nowhere in 2025 making videos lecturing with shitty takes and talking like they "know" Japanese Anime better than people who have been into this medium for decades longer. lol

So anyone throwing age out there like it's a fucking crutch, doesn't really say much. Shit like ages in their 30s or 40s only add to their credibility, if anything. Granted this is the internet and making content on a fucking platform like Youtube has limitations. Where once any of these kids one day become completely unattractive to watch, where they suddenly start going bald or their faces start looking like dried up prunes, no doubt their viewership will be making a nose dive. People who do this shit for a living can't get away doing this specific kind of content indefinitely.

It’s akin to some popular mid 80s film suddenly trying to make a comeback with a new fucking sequel in the 2020s. Where the young sweet heart in this classic film looks like a fucking gramma now. When the actor "Tom Cruise" still look like he is 25 years younger than his actual real fucking age. So they just replace the actress with a new younger and attractive looking woman to play the new female lead in the story. Pretending "Kelly McGillis" doesn't even fucking exist anymore. lol

That just means someone like me comes across to as a fucking cranky old man, online. Which is fucking beautiful, if people are still reading the shit I post and either getting a good laugh or even actually taking it fucking seriously enough to say, "you make a lot of great points", Mission Accomplished! lol

There are maybe ten users on this forum who I've seen that seem to have somewhat balanced opinions, and that includes the likes of both you and ColourWheel, just to give you and idea of how far fetched productive discussion seems lmao.

If I were in my 20s in 2025... with no life, no wife, no friends, no job, and nothing but time... I’d probably be perpetually churning online discussions from my parents basement too, until they kicked my ass out for being nothing but a fucking financial parasite. lol

Just a lot fucking older now. Have a family and real responsibilities. This shit can change the how, when, and why to anyone's online engagement.

Even back in the late 2000s on old-school forums that don’t even fucking exist anymore... like as an example "Secular Café"... there were maybe a hundred active users total. Sometimes spent part of the day for a full hour crafting equivalent to almost three-page threads on everything from politics to shit like perpetual motion, and people would actually read the shit and engage constructively. The shit stayed civil mostly because anyone who wanted to actually fucking troll couldn’t even be bothered to read that much content in the first place. Long-form posting was basically a natural filter that kept random users from derailing shit. lol

Eventually that place died. Moved to another old-school forum. That one died too. Rinse and repeat until ending up here in the 2020s... because all the cool, small, old-school forums are basically fucking dead now. lol

But getting old has its fucking drawbacks too. Have severe carpal tunnel, not just from posting on forums, but from decades of sitting behind computers... dating back to school and college days, all the way through every workplace of employment.

These days, just typing on a keyboards fucking hurts. Have to use an ergonomic split keyboard, and even then, still in pain if typing for way too fucking long. Often hitting keys too many times, misspell shit, or craft something that makes no sense at all when proof reading the shit. lol

So yeah… maybe not the topic-churning 20-something one once was. Slower, older, slightly broken version who types like a drunken pirate half the fucking time, and still somehow manages to mostly craft shit with a pseudo-coherent narrative. But hey, if people want to view me as some grampa… "Then shit... some fucker’s gotta remind these young whippersnappers that thoughtful discussion used to exist before the internet became a highlight reel of bait, hot takes, and ADHD-driven brain farts". lol

The original title was "Is the anime community like the economy?".
Midway through writing it became "Is the anime community, like the economy, a zombie?".
Then I deciding omitting the economy part altogether.
@thewiru
The "economy=zombie" analogy still doesn't work, bud. If the point of it is that the economy is seemingly healthy and thriving while actually rotting internally (like the anime community, according to you), then I ask you again: do zombies as a concept generally seem healthy to you? Is their decay not immediately apparent on sight?

Why omit "economy" from the title if you were gonna go hard on using it as a comparison for the entirety of your opening post anyway? Why not omit the word "zombie" instead, since it's kind of irrelevant to the actual topic?

Your reasoning is all over the place, which is not uncommon for you, I know, but still...

Time to double tap the community in the shining red eye.
I feel myself it. Talking about anime feels like logging to comment on a porn site: I done the deed, and I am smiling happy. Why should I put any more effort in it given I am satisfied?

I'll say the aspect of why anime community sucks now is that people consume anime, but they have little extra information. If you compare it with a (somewhat) researched youtuber video of 8 mins, it is not very informative. I can see some possibly interesting directions in talking about episode Subtext. Even the anime that people don't stop yapping can have something that someone may go through. . .
It is weird that both veterans and newbies alike can write walls of text and most of it ends up without quality consumable information.

What is actually open to discussion and has not had 10 thousands of threads. And could be interesting to talk about? Logically the thing that you get most value of the community talking about is not anime you watched, but reading about anime you didn't. Or getting into a fight of egos, wishful thinking and speculation (possibly very doomer about zombies, empires falling, and whatever else).

Sincerely, anime making offs feels 1000% better than ever stepping AD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LgHOUTZ8Gc&list=PLk6WqyhiIhR3YWAFIHa8kcFgicHteNVXb

Yup. Everybody is just a brainrotting dummy, with no attention span that needs to really contribute more.
You're keeping it real, tho. True.

And Hey, You got 5k Likes on Twitter?
YAY! Congratulations :)
It's totally irrelevant to everyone and doesn't belong in Anime-Discussions, but......happy for you. Thanks for sharing. You're killing it!
And thanks for the lecture on Anime-Economy^^ That was helpful.

You've written an interesting rough draft of a think piece, but I don't know how much I agree with it.

The bigger problem is studios going out of business, an over emphasis on chasing effervesent trends, and skyrocketing production costs thanks to the historically weak yen, not low quality new anime fans.

I don't really get this gatekeeping tbh. I see it all the time in the anime community, and it puzzles me. We all started somewhere - let people enjoy anime at their own pace, however they please.

The mental gymnastics required to believe that more fans equals something bad for the industry is, frankly, hard to get my head around.
