You witness someone stealing food at the supermarket, do you snitch on them?

If it's an item that doesn't cost much — like a jar of peanut bar or strawberry jam for example — then nope, I would just ignore it. If they're stealing a few bottles of really expensive, high-end alcohol on the other hand, then I probably wouldn't even realize they're stealing them until it's too late. I would just assume that they would take it to the check out area rather than run away with it. I don't think I've ever seen anyone stuff their purse with expensive, high-end bottles of alcohol either, and so I don't know how I would react to seeing that. I might just assume that they're purchasing them rather than stealing them. Usually, I pay little to no attention to what items customers get in supermarkets.

Usually a bit of shoplifting is factored into their margins. Grocery stores can also afford to lose a bit more inventory now they they cut costs on not hiring as many cashiers, so snitching isn't your responsibility. Often the store is even aware of it, they have cameras around. If they want to press charges that's up to them to do. Some stores even use cameras to identify specific customers so they can send them to prison once they're stolen enough stuff. The store knows what they're doing, karma will fall upon people who push their luck too much.

Not something like peanut butter. If someone's stealing basic sources of nutrition, I'm going to assume they need to. Luxury foods would be a different story.

Nope, two things, nobody steals from a supermarket because they are greedy, there is no incentive to steal from a supermarket, it's not for material gain. It's not an IPhone or a Laptop, it's food for all sakes. We all need to eat and big corporations do not need our money, so if anything I'd encourage them to steal from greedy corporations. If it wasn't for corporations in the first place we wouldn't have this class difference where people like Elon Musk are sitting on fountains of money while people in Countries all over the world can't even afford food. So no I would not snitch and I think snitching itself is immoral.

I wouldn't report it, I'd just ignore it. Considering we're talking about supermarkets with multi-millionaire CEOs, I hope more people manage to pull off successful robberies, as long as they don't hurt, scare, or threaten anyone.

I would report it because it can raise the price of the food to everyone (In ideal worlds, supermarket is one of the solutions that carries foods and products closer to people). But let's be sincere, if you see someone in need stealing you are not reporting, because the supermarket is already eyeful of them and will already know.
And if it is someone who looks rich enough to pay, you are snitching on them because being punished or paying won't matter to them. Some will even do it just for the thrill - like cleptomaniacs.

As others have said, it depends. I'm not going to if they're stealing the cheap stuff because they're (probably) desperate for food, but if someone was stealing an entire shelf so nobody else can get any, then I likely would - or at least steal some for me from the thief.

It's a conflict I don't care about between two people/parties I don't truly care anything for the welfare of (the shoplifter - a random stranger vs. the grocery store, a business that I couldn't care less how much or little they profit or suffer in shrinkage via lost product).

Why would I intervene? Not just that. There are very few crimes I'd actually intervene in, in the sense of desiring to get society involved or siding with the authorities. Between the government and a bunch of lowlife random thugs, I'm not really on either side.

Mostly just those that were aimed against or affected me personally or the very few people/things I care about are the ones I'd lift a finger for. Most stuff involving strangers, I might consider it interesting to witness out of curiosity as a detached observer in a voyeuristic manner or to hear, watch, or read about the news after the fact on the radio, TV, or online as an uninvolved party, but affects me and I consider my business and place to get involved about as much as a coup in Gabon, the Sudanese civil war, life in an Amish village, or the politics within an ant colony.
