Ok so for my story, basically last year in my city I got to see the northern lights, my house was like basically surrounded by buildings though, so I had to take like a short walk over to like this nearby farm just to see it, but yeah definitely worth like the 5 minute walk, honestly really pretty!!!

Anyways have y'all ever seen the northern lights?

There was a decent geomagnetic storm last June and all of Canada was affected, but I preferred to prioritize my sleep. Had I been 18 or something, I probably would have stayed awake to look at the sky, but I neeeeed my sleep.

i was going to say no, but I have a random memory of me seeing one when I was 10 or so. I think that’s what it was? Maybe I was dreaming, I don’t even know if you can see them where I live

Good Lord, what is happening in there?
Aurora borealis.
Uh-
Aurora borealis?!
At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen?
Yes.
May I see it?
No.

YES it was amazing! So beautiful! I had to wait until 4AM and there was so much light pollution I couldn't tell if anything was there. I head some blocks out to a darker area to see them clearly. I remember the wonderful feeling when I first could tell something unique was there MOVING against a sky I've seen a million times. It was kinda spooky :D it feels HUGE like you're seeing more from the other side of the world. Hard to explain. Like seeing giants in the distance!

The best pic I could get ":D they were much clearer than this, thankfully

Shoulda gone out to the dark woods 20 minutes away for a better look... but I was kinda mesmerized in the moment and thought they'd be gone by the time I got there. And a crazy boomer wanted to kill me out there once too so I'm careful to go around there '':D

Prioritizing short-term, everyday satisfaction over witnessing rare beauty in its authentic form. "Let's look at the comet!" "Not now, the Doordash is here!"

@XMGA030 So don't be shy - post some cute pics of this "nothing special", then! Maybe some northern sunsets too. My god, how beautiful they are: the heavy, red sun melting into the ocean, making the forest on the shore surreal, grotesque, eerie even. And then, only an hour later, it pops right back up... You are so lucky, without even noticing it!

OT: I have seen the lights maybe a dozen times, and they were always impressive. In that place, they even call it nordLYS - all in my honor, naturally.

PS: You are such a horrible person, fleur. Let me guess: you spot a rainbow and immediately turn the other way.

round-the-clock light is very disruptive in reality, you can hardly sleep and the retards on the street won't stop blasting their engines in your ears, crime shoots through the roof, etc, until it all gives you a nervous disorder and anger problems

the grass is really not greener on the other side

@XMGA030 It's your personal choice ofc to see the world rather mundane than beautiful, even though I would prefer to see photos, haha.

Just curious: what city is this? I bet on Murmansk, surprise me.

Yes, I prefer to prioritize my health since I am easily affected by any lack of sleep. I'll take not feeling sick over northern lights, every day of the year.

On the contrary! I have a habit of taking pictures of every rainbow I witness.

Ye I have. Small ones but still. I'd love to see more and it's pretty easy to do so here if you go up north in winter time. Have a little romantic viewing with my partner

There were a couple times during the summer when my family tried driving away from the city to see them, but no luck.
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.
