This episode was all meaningless dialogue typical of anime that has no real content but needs to make a 3 episode arc 12 episodes. Sorry but whatever character development that was made this episode could've be summarized in like 2 sentences.

You're also spoiling future content which I am pretty sure is against the rules.

As far as I know, I didn't give any spoilers. You must not have read the part where I said I didn't read the novel from volume 13 onwards and deduced everything I said by watching the anime.

This whole story is such a big mess!

Siltvelt arc could have been skipped easily:
- Naofumi could just simply use his dragon to fly to Q'ten Lo. He already made half the journey this way...
- There are also griffins in the mountains, just tame one like with the other monsters in the village.
- Or ask any of the captains to take him there. I heard he's famous so they wouldn't mind!
- Or buy a ship. A whole country is sponsoring him.
- Or ride Sadeena, she's a killer whale therianthrope. If I remember correctly, whales CAN swim.

- I personally hate how they're trying so hard to redeem the Staff Hero with sad brooding scenes after spending the whole first season making him public enemy number two!
- Shield hero's party defeated the legendary Tortoise that could have destroyed the whole world. And a random politician is like 'Yeah, I can take them in a fight, no problemo!'.
- The Queen spent the whole first half of S1 going around countries and putting out diplomatic fires for summoning all four heroes in Melromarc. Siltvelt was ready to go to war to get their Shield Hero back!!! But in S4 they're like 'Nah, he's not the Promised One, we don't really want him lol. But thx for stopping by, and btw if you're free could you breed my daughter?'
- They already swore to him like three days ago. That didn't last long...

might be a more popular opinion than you think; she's an all but explicit replacement for the far more popular Raphtalia, even to the point of stealing her tag line

Raphtalia got one line in this episode, which was to concur with Raphtalia 2.0 AKA "Atla", as if the writers are rebelling from obvious flaws in the script

throw in Fohl and Orca chick in the same category of supporting characters that sort of got forced into the main party without any compelling reason to make them that prominent or even have them exist at all

just try to imagine where we'd be right now if, instead of one massively time-wasting sidequest after the next, we got to see the main quest and development of S1 characters continue - it would be a way better story than this ugly mess we're at

I would say Atla is as annoying as always but here everyone is behaving like an idiot
but as far as the concern goes about episode I will say that the plot is moving too slow and only one volume might be covered in this season. This shit could have been covered in just two episodes but they are stretching it too much and it is becoming boring.

the phrases are similar but their meaning is totally different besides being very beautiful.

"Raphtalia 2.0 and Writers Rebelling"...? Obviously this arc focuses on Atla and Fohl, meaning they will have more prominence and consequently more lines.
Your speech is like complaining that the Spirit Turtle had too much focus in the Spirit Turtle arc, it's a simply useless and meaningless complaint.

Well, they are characters, they exist, they have their function in the plot, and in the future, they will have their character arcs resolved, simple.

I've talked so much about character development and arcs that it's getting boring to keep repeating the same things.
I liked your analysis of this episode. I noticed you put some effort into it this time, congratulations.
But I'd be happier if you offered stronger, more convincing critiques instead of repeating the same complaints over and over, because that makes your impression of the episode too weak and uninteresting to respond to.

The third episode had better dialogue, and certainly a lot of interesting things were expressed. We got to see Atla’s devotion, which added depth to the character. I do think the season is progressing a bit slowly, but it’s becoming more interesting with each episode.

Nice to see the old king (trash?) showing some care and guilt over the white tiger siblings, go on and put your trust to the Shield Hero.

An old fashion way of settling a debate, through a duel– I was genuinely worried that they'll get cheated at some way but after the conditions set by that minotaur I just can't stop laughing lmao, they definitely has to win this!

Im more surprised that Raphtalia doesn't have much anything to do in this arc, tho Atla is taking that role for her... well I guess because the next one (if we're going straight to Q'ten Lo after) will be Raphtalia's time.

I can understand people finding the episode boring because it's dialogue heavy, however, I think it does a good job of fleshing out the supporting characters and raising the stakes (albeit, Alta's exposition about the founding principles of the country were a bit cringy). If the episode made you want to stick around to see what's next, I think it did its job. I have an idea of how the duel's gonna go, but now I'm invested in Fohl and Atla's story, and how the figureheads of Silvet may play a part in the Waves of Catastrophe in the future.

i also agree about the character cast, the show was better with just the 3 of them. since now it's harder to balance them, the biggest flaw in this series is the amount of new characters that get introduced.

but some of them have good backstories and character arcs, i'd continue giving it another chance. it does become an average fantasy anime, but i love the world & characters so i stick with it. since i also just enjoy it a ton

I still hate Atla, she is so fucking annoyin, so proud and shit when she is no more than a blind mudblood lol, I specifically hate the fact she acts like she is better than his brother and that he sucks ass, like what the fuck, he was giving his life for her when she was dying from illness, give him some fucking respect.

I don't know about this sudden change in Trash's personality, he was a literal piece of trash all previous seasons, until the siblings show up, and now he is all fragile, it happened so quick, it's kinda lame.

@hypexleaks My god, the person responsible for the storyboard is the animation guy in episode 9 of season 3. I had already mentioned him before as a "Chinese" animator who is not listed on myanimelist, this guy is simply amazing.
With this team, it's certain that the next episode will be the peak, it's time to see Atlas doing a pirouette.

I hate to say it, but this season just hasn't been very good. This episode was mind numbingly boring. It felt like they were talking in circles. I get that we're kind of entrenched in another country's politics here, but it's just so boring. This is a far cry from what Shield Hero used to be.

He's basically a god. Plays backhanded spy games instead of just accusing him publicly.
A duel over the fate the shield hero, not fought by the shield hero. Why is he such a btch now? What does the duel even prove? That his companion isn't the shield hero??
Ridiculous plotline with 0 input from the MC. Never a good sign when you hero doesn't act.

I really wanted to like Tate no Yuusha, but I can't, I'm dropping the series after this episode.

Mc is supposed to be intelligent, still accepts a duel against a proven criminal, who tried to poison the entire government body, and all that because the criminal says the hero isn't the "true hero"... Also Naofumi sends two children to battle against old veteran warriors. Also also, if the hero loses, many people loses their lives, and if he wins he get basically nothing. Naofumi is easily the dumbest mc I ever saw.
