I Started This Anime About a Year Ago And JUST Finished It. It Was Slow, Boring and overall Uninteresting. So why is it so highly rated? Why are people so obsessed with it? Can someone explain how this is actually a good anime? |

The argument that this anime is slow and boring has always been so strange to me, when I watched it the episodes went flying because of how entertaining it was. I really like all the innovative visuals and immersive scenes. Not really an anime that is supposed to be understood the first time around, you kinda just immerse yourself in it. |

@pecana it's kinda impossible to immerse yourself in it when half of the show is just empty shots with no dialogue. This could've easily been told in like 3 episodes or a movie but they dragged it out to 12 episodes? And the argument about it being boring is cause it is? There's nothing interesting about this anime it's just "bland" |

Maybe this is just too much a thinking and feeling show for you seeing you mainly just like action genres in the shounen demographic. It's something that mainly vibes with people who have problems and live a lot of their life on the computer so they get it more on what it is about. A lot of it is just info dumps given for you to go down a rabbit hole outside of just the show, the game and the manga. |

@traed assuming I like Action Genres in the Shounen demographic is pretty funny to me as Action isn't even in my top 5 genres also assuming the majority of my life isn't online is also funny. I spend an average of 12 to 14 hours on my phone everyday (not a flex). And what do you mean Thinking and Feeling? I could see where the anime was going in 10 minutes? No brainpower was needed as the plot was insanely basic and easily understood. like I said previously half of it is just empty shots with zero dialogue!? It's just bland |

I watched it in one go about 2 years ago and I also didn't like it at all, but outside of the nostalgia factor since it's so old, the fans of the series are usually ones who either really like the Y2K era themed shows because of that exact reason or really love deep diving into any possible symbolism there could be just for the thought experiment of it. There's nothing wrong if that's why they like it either that's just what I've heard. |

Well, it comes to personal taste obviously but while it's slow I don't think it's boring, the deep psychological exploration of Lain and the unique vibes and the great use of visual storytelling are why the series is so interesting |

@Rishon007 "themes it tackles" Internet. "Still relevant" Internet. "Unmatched atmospheric vibes and aesthetics" Half drawn City shots with no audio. (Unique and Experimental) Internet. @JackOfDeath Well I was just going off your scores of things ive personally seen. This was made in the 90s not the 2020s. You and everyone else is on there phone that much, that isn't really what I mean. I was more talking place in society and a certain mindset. The plot is simple but it has various philosophical elements and references to external information. Part of feeling I meant is having patience and to examine. Quiet moments are things meant to evoke an overall mood or bring meaning to words constant yapping doesnt do well. These are things that cant really be explained easily since you just have to get it and you dont. Also this is called Serial Experiments Lain for a reason. The project was an experiment in multi media. The anime stands alone but the same concepts get driven in more with the game and one shot manga. But i doubt youd be much better off with those either even though the game is edgier |

@Krish_Mahajan the animation was horrid? It's literally in my top 3 worst animation in anime tier list. And yeah the opening song is great but I remember it playing like once in the anime as it didn't even open the episodes they just *started* |

are you delusional or just pretending to be one? how exactly is it debunking when you didn't even prove anything? yh, it tackled the themes of internet, technology, and its effects in the 90s, and they are more relevant today than when it was made? almost like it predicted the future. and the fact that a show from the 90s was able to do it makes it even more impressive. cuz i can't think of any other show that did anything like this. not sure what you were trying to prove by quoting "iNtERneT" three times when it's the show's focal theme. the shots point just made it clear that you watched it with your eyes close. thanks for that clarification. "the mysterious introverted girl", more like a girl descending into madness and developing multiple personalities and unable to decipher what's real and what's not thanks to the effects of the wired (the internet in today's world). which is again very impressive for the time it was made cuz this could literally be happening right now. maybe try to understand what you are watching and not make baseless surface level observations. "Couldn't come up with an actual story" how about you actually pay attention to what you are watching instead of crying in forums and denying every reply. this point just proves that you are incapable of thinking and forming your own interpretation. or are you saying that you just want to be spoonfed every single detail to satisfy your tiktok brain? if you thaught the show was boring, you had your chance to drop it and leave it there. I recommend rewatching it with your eyes and brain open. |

@SakataGintoki420 angel beats a 4 cause it was insanely overated and very forgettable. Shoujo tsubaki a 5 cause it was too short. Another a 5 cause it had zero plot and was just gore for the sake of gore. Another a 5 cause it had zero plot and was just gore for the sake of gore. I think you should stick to your jjk 10/10 ratings and your weird obsession with 5 and up anime before you start coming at me for what I watch. Dude all I'm saying is this genre isn't your cup of tea. Also your list is filled with random ecchi which serves as a good enough testament to this fact. Your points for disliking this show are Animation and Slow pace. Do you even realise that this is a representation of how quite a few people saw the internet in 1998? It was evolving at quite the breakneck speed, albeit not accessible to everyone. Lain explores not only a somewhat unchartered territory but also shows that time and again, too much development can lead to unpleasant circumstances. I'm sure I missed some things here but I believe others will get what I mean. Your one of few redeeming watch was Boku Dake ga Inai Machi. Kindly explain to me what PLOT "Kiss x Sis" and "My Girlfriend is a Shobitch" was trying to deliver or what breakthrough animation did they achieve? |

I personally think people like the aesthetic of the show, which there’s nothing particularly wrong with that, but because people enjoy it’s aesthetic and it’s (for a lack of better words) quirkiness, they’ll make up whatever excuse to tell you that the show is good. I personally don’t like the show that much although I’m not a full on hater, I can acknowledge that it’s definitely different and wanted to be more then the average for its time however that’s also all it has going for it, it simply has no substance, and to me it wasn’t worth the watch, to me it wasn’t worth sitting through a bunch of ideas that don’t go anywhere. It’s a show that’s left to viewer interpretation, to me it’s worth thrives on what you can make of it. I’d like to add that for me the show’s only psychological factor was making me ask “what the fuck did I just watch” which can count it if you want it to but to me the show’s not so much “psychological” it’s “experimental”, which isn’t bad but I think that the people who enjoy for what it is shouldn’t play it up to be anything more then that, art doesn’t always have to be deep, it can just be random…but then again…viewer interpretation, Serial Experiments Lain is just a big painting, and while I’m not big on the art world in regards to painting, I’m not crazy in saying that it’s usually the snobbiest and pretentious people giving meaning to things that don’t have any…interpret that how you will reader. |

You get an award for being the only person on the planet who thinks Angel Beats and Lain are the same genre. |

*labeled lain as a 'mYsteRious iNtroVErt'*
Ok buddy. whatever makes you happy. not gonna waste any more time on you cuz judging by the way you reply to everything, it's clear that neither do you want to accept others' opinions nor did you underatand the show. consider this my last reply. have a nice day

@Rishon007 look up a description of the anime and it says "mysterious introvert"💀 and YOU are the one that said it's ending was left up to the viewer not me😂 I simple said what that must mean |
