Saul should've died. In fact, one of the three major problems with modern One Piece is no one stays dead. Since the time skip, we've had like two deaths (one of which is still unconfirmed).
That being said... I'm glad Robin got some time to shine. I'm happy to see her happy.
@CondemneDio Unlike other fakeout deaths like Papagaya or Pell, Saul's survival contributes towards the story. He was not only a companion to Olvia, but thanks to his survival, along with the other giants, was able to save a majority of the books the scholars left behind. It also allows someone from Robin's past to still be with her all these years later. Kuzan also used the movie he used against Saul once in the whole series, the aptly named "ice-time capsule" now honestly Kuzan could have thought that the cannons would have shattered him, but at the same time he could have thought that by freezing him it gave him the slightest chance at surviving, Kuzan's a very interesting character as we know, especially given recent events.

Thinking about the warning from the previous chapter and the mention that Big Mom did something unforgivable. Bet you you're only supposed to stay in Elbaf 3 days 2 nights, and anything more is bad.

Or Big Mom ate some giants and their homes or something. She is a titan after all
@bossunhimeswitch It wasn't that, remember how she killed Jorul after going on a rampage and then if that wasn't bad enough, she ATE all of her friends
(a giant witnessed the incident and reported to Elbaph)

Robin and Saul finally meet again, what a tearful reunion making me tear up as well. After all the hardship Robin has been through in the last 20 years, she has finally found true friends with the Straw Hats and finally reunited with Saul. Robin cut her hair shorter like in pre-time skip also wearing her dress in Dressrosa which is probably her best outfit.

@CondemneDio Izo, Ashura literally died in Wano? What about the villains like Orochi, Kanjuro, Saturn all died?

I just don't buy that Saul contributes enough to warrant a retcon.

@LuffyHammock94

Saturn was basically the only one of those deaths that had any meaning to the overall story, and even his death is debatable in its impact. Good point about the other ones though. Totally slipped my mind, because those are easy throwaway deaths to make an illusion of danger.

@CondemneDio

It's not a retcon though. Saul was not killed, he was just frozen. Like Robin, Luffy, Jozu, Doflamingo - none of them died, so why should Saul?

And the flames melting the ice is just... logic. Not to mention Kuzan is not really a murderer. It makes sense and doesn't contradict any established facts, so while you may not like it, it's not a reton.

@Dahaka_

Oda making buster calls eradicate whole islands but not letting any characters die in them, after giving clear indications they would not survive, is retconning.

Tama needs to tame Holdem.

Oh man, the long awaited reunion 😭 Of course Oda doesn't miss the callbacks for this occasion either. Although you can tell that his recent art in this instance declined slightly. Understandably, so imo.

The reactions of the Strawhats are priceless. Zoro and Jinbe wouldn't cry unless it's personal for them and Luffy rather smiles, awesome. His words to her at the Tower of Justice hit even harder after this chapter. One of the best things is that Saul now gets to know Robin's nakama. Can't wait to see their interactions.

Break next week
@FMmatron You noticed how Luffy was so eager to see Saul and greet him for saving Robin, it was bcz Luffy learnt that by seeing Ace who was learning from Makino at Foosha Village bcz Ace wanted to convey his gratitude to Shanks for saving his kid brother's life.

@Early_Morning He has health issues. Making a weekly manga is insanely difficult and he averaged only 3 hours of sleep a day for years. Just let him live his life and try to recover.
@Melkybubbles Yup!! As a fan as much as we are eager to read new chapters and know more of it as it's never enough, we are more concerned about his health and wellbeing. And it was obvious that we were gonna get a flashback bcz it was there reunion after 22 years

Yeah, I remember that. Nice catch.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

oda, you did it again and all while being busy with other stuff. was enough to make a grown man cry. great reunion, seeing robin smile after all she's been through and luffy wanting to eagerly meet saul made my day as well. no way even sanji teared up at the end haha i doubt zoro would bat an eye though. also holdem on the cover lol. some of these comments are just as miserable as i expected, always happens when one piece drops a chapter that clears their entire favorite series lmao.

Bro Oda could place an entire Shakespearean masterpiece within a single chapter and some of you would still not be satisfied. We literally got one of the biggest emotional payoffs of the series in this chapter and people claim it "useless" or a wasted chapter. This shit has been going on since Wano and maybe even earlier tbh. Y'all will actually do anything to maintain this agenda that Oda fell off lmao so miserable.

The second to last panel of the straw hats represents most of us. Finally got that reunion.
"Pirates are Evil? Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values. Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is a neutral ground! Justice will prevail you say? Of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!" -Donquixote Doflamingo
