not as bad as everyone was telling me it was, but it's still just okay. I would probably be more fond of the ending if i didn't have to sludge through 50 chapters of the same thing as the first 50 but executed much worse. It should've ended after original L died. Somehow. But, this ending wasn't too bad.

i find it fitting that Light would go out crying like a little bitch, letting his pride get the best of him, after he said Near lost cause he did the same.

their entire battle was just a dick swinging competition erm

So after buying and reading this manga for months... this is how it ended? I am so disappointed and sad with the final volume. It really hurts lol.

I guess its intended to reduce Light to just some pathetic scum who is dumb and lost. He didnt change the world, he is just a crazy nobody. But I really liked him and it was so gripping watching him. He was always shown to be a super intelligent man and I thought to the last page he will somehow flip things around. Unfortunately he ended like this in the most pathetic way and I really don't like it at all haha. Now to decide if I want to give it a 6 or a 7. At least I enjoyed the first 6 volumes so much.

I cannot even properly describe how much I hate the ending. The journey up to this point was extremely entertaining, but the conclusion was a massive letdown. The most interesting part about the whole situation is the point when Light says that, since Kira appeared the crime rate has gone down by 70%. This one sentence proves that Kira made the world a better place, it is no longer an opinion but a fact, a few more years and the crime rate would most likely go even lower. The frustrating part of this manga is that investigators on both sides lack the ability to see the bigger picture or perhaps they are too privileged to be able to see how much the state of the world has improved. Near and others might say that Light was just a crazy murderer, but it doesn't change the fact of what he's done for the world, nobody would ever be able to achieve the same results without using supernatural means. When law and order serve only the privileged people and don't punish the ones who deserve it, what choice do the good people have but to turn to God? Even if their God is human.

An iconic manga. Better than anime, which cut some content that made part 2 nice.

Light's plan was perfect. I like a lot the very natural and simple nature of light's lost. Why? I like how light just lost due to a single flaw... which was foreshadowed regarding mikami's behavior since he first got the note book from light through ryuk. It made light's loss feel impactful and shocking because there was nothing that light could have done to make mikami not write takada's name. Of course it wasnt needed for mikami to be so desperate to rush takada's death, but he just did out of panic... i liked that. The ending didnt "dumbed down" light at all, like some people claim nor imply that he lost due to a decline in his capacity to foreshadow.

Was it forced and made sense for Near to win? Consistency-wise, not much, but i liked how it felt.

The fact that light did made crime and the world better added to the impact of his loss. It was simply something Near had to take care of, not make kira win.

Loved it just like i loved the anime back in the early 2010s. The ost of the anime is remarkable of course.

One thing about it that can be tiring is that it is a very text heavy manga, because most of it is composed of texts explaining the logical conclusions and thoughts of the characters regarding what to do to outsmart or get the upper hand, which are Light, L and Near, with other characters just having sparse and uncommon moments of more exposure barely so. So it is a more demanding manga than most manga and longer because of that. In that vein, this is the most flawed part of this manga, that the bulk of it are mostly these texts of "ifs" and reasonings that at times made it not that good to follow through (two reviews here pointed that out). It is still intensenly charming overall, but this is its major flaw above all else.

What's with people saying the girl at the end isn't Misa? Who else could it possibly be?

Peak of literature right here. The only L is the character.
