After reading Rosario Vampire and Vampire Knight way back in the 2010s, it was downhill from there.
Even nowadays, I still read like crazy.

Manga timelines are fuzzy, since most manga go on forever. So I don't know which was the first manga. Some manga I started out liking, but then they got worse and worse and I eventually dropped them or their ending made no sense.

The first manga I remember really liking and that had an actual ending was Honeymoon Salad.
The last manga I remember really liking and that had an actual ending was Boku dake ga Inai Machi.

First thing I read was berserk, got a little past the golden age and dropped it out of boredom. Then read nisekoi and domestic na kanajo and liked them a lot more. Turns out I only like trash manga lol

Jing king of bandits volume 5.

I remember my school library had a selection of Manga. It had the usual popular selection like One Piece, Bleach and Naruto but then it also had much more obscure titles like Jing king of Bandits, Elemental Gelade and D.N.Angel. Once I had read the "big 3" I started loaning the other titles.

Then when I saw in the ads preview of another Manga that Jing king of bandits had more than 4 volumes I purchased the fifth volume from Waterstones as that was my favourite I had read so far.

20 Years and 2600 volumes later I am still hooked on the medium.

Akira. Read all 6 volumes from my school's library in middle school. Something about those big-ass volumes spoke to me. I'd carry them around in my giant backpack that was already filled with binders and textbooks. It was a good time and I'd love to read it again one of these days.

Terra Formars, I think I must have read some manga by that point, but what truly made it into a hobby was finding out there were Terra Formar volumes available in my country, so I immediately bought like 10 lol.

Angel densitsu, i once stumbled over the anime of it and it only had one or 2 episodes in total if i remember correctly and for some reason the idea of it intrigued me so much that i finally gave in and decided to read manga for the first time and boy did i like it. After that i started looking for more manga to read since i enjoyed the medium and when i realized that i can basically choose ost for different series became a very big advantage of manga over anime for me

I remember reading A Silent Voice first. My brother bought the series and I fell in love with it. Years after I bought a special box with a cute art and the whole series and an extra volume for myself.

The first manga I remember buying myself is probably My Hero Academia Vigilante Illegals. Despite finding the series just good and not much more, I still am really attached to it because of that.

It was my very first manga, Berserk, I was already a fan of the original 1997 anime, after I got to the point where I had to wait for new chapters I started reading other manga.

Mahou Sensei Negima because it was one of 4 titles in total that was available in my country back in the 2000s. I never ended up finishing it but I loved the art style.

I saw Yu-Gi-Oh on the cover of Shounen Jump when I was in middle school, so I bought it and discovered a whole new world. While I initially bought it for Yu-Gi-Oh, it was Naruto, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Shaman King that kept me coming back.

I used to only read shonen or manga that already has anime adatptations. But i think reading act age and ani to yome changed my perspective on that. Mangas can be good and enjoyed on its own without needing anime adaptations.

I was going to say Dr. Slump, since it was the first manga I collected back in 2002 and I loved it, but actually I don't think it was it. I bought it because I remembered watching the anime on TV when I was little and as I bought each of its 40 releases every Friday in a comic book store full of manga I didn't pay attention to any other volumes. Once I finished Dr. Slump I didn't plan to go back and buy manga anymore.

But then I started watching anime on TV the following summer (Cowboy Bebop, KareKano, Evangelion, Lain, Trigun, Utena...) and I was amazed, so I decided to try other Japanese comics. If my memory serves me right the first manga I started then was Love Hina, and while it doesn't mean as much to me as Dr. Slump (I'm even thinking about collecting the Catalan kanzenban edition too, which hopefully won't have all those references to Spice Girls, Julio Iglesias, Norma Duval and the like xD) it made me realize I enjoyed manga even more than anime leading me to start many other series.

So while it could have been some other of the series that were being published back then, I'd say for me it was Love Hina.

@Flazzard I've never been a fan of Love Hina, but just hearing it mentioned does give me nostalgia as well. One of my very first manga as well.

@Rally-

I'm with you on that sentiment as well. While Love Hina does bring me nostalgia I too didn't really care much for it when I first started reading and watching it. I can't deny its significance to the harem genre, but I think it could have been better.
