| Little by little my memories of reading the final manga chapters returned as the episode went through, and wasn't surprised by the fact Ataru stood his ground until the very end... especially since i recently read interviews from Rumiko Takahashi explaining why she decided to never have him (and Ranma Saotome, probably) directly tell those three words, even if keeping Lum's horns definitely meant something. It still seemed a abrupt / rushed ending, but it's pretty much unavoidable considering how longer the previous anime adaptation was, even if, at the same time, not gonna lie, it was cool to watch Lum's mother and Ataru's father sharing a scene aware of it being a reunion of the original seiyuus of the main couple, or the final scene so similar to the poster of season 1. To be completely honest, enjoyed season 1 more. Way too much focus this time on unbearable characters (especially two parents of different girls...) while others were demoted to extras and / or completely forgotten until the very final arc. Appreciated the adaptation of missing material from the original regular series, but the ugly truth is that just 46 episodes would have never been enough in number to let the remake fight with the OG series with equal weapons... and still, i can easily think or 5 / 10 episodes from the 80's that i would have enjoyed to rewatch again in the current series. As a result, nothing has changed... Urusei Yatsura has never been a favorite of mine, but i would never, ever deny the legacy it had for Japan and its history with animation, creating so many romcom tropes i'm still not tired of, and i'm already missing it again wanting more of it (even if, actually, there are still all the movies and some OVAs waiting) 7/10, 7,5 at best to be generous, and still feeling empty inside because these flawed crazy entertaining characters are so hard to forget after all. |
