I’m someone who will give an anime a chance regardless of how it looks. But not only does the first episode have weak animation, the art style is generic, the voice acting was terrible, OST is painfully average, there are flashbacks of what someone said literally 2 minutes ago, there is too much I cannot ignore regardless of how the story turns out. If I was actually interested, I’d just read it. It’s truly a shame because I consider anime the superior medium, and it is insulting when it’s handled so poorly that the source material is better in spite of the advantages anime adaptation can provide.

No, I also thought this was good! Story is what I typically focus on and this one was intriguing.

i think so too the behavior of the wife and her daughter are kinda not realistic and set up of the intrigue is poor.

so in conclusion generic animation=bad show? bc if that's the case then you're just ranting for no reason as long as the story is good it's already good enough for people to watch. I'm pretty sure you're one of those guys who would have demon slayer as one of your favorites just bc of the animation.

Is the manga worth it? I quite enjoy thrillers and when I read the synopsis I thought I'd give the anime a watch but then I saw the trailer and the animation put me right off.

100% agree with op. As someone who'd been already reading the manga, I was really excited about the anime adaptation. But unfortunately, the production quality was low.
Even for those who say they just focus on the story, when everything surrounding it is not nearly as good, then it takes the story down, too. That's because the dialogues and reactions feel off and the suspense is not built up properly.
For those who are interested in the genre and the theme, I'd recommend giving the manga a try instead, felt way better this way for me.

It's interesting. In that regard Im with you - it's pretty good.

But that's not what this Thread is about.
Production value really seems low. Scenes are a bit clunky, at times.
If you take the Trailers into account, which looked much much better, this is kinda disappointing.

Idk what people are saying about this being a horrible show, this first episode ALONE had me so interested I know its gonna be a 10/10 (I had literal tears from the plot alone and I genuiunley don’t cry much)

OST is fucking amazing put some respect on Kenji Kawai's name cause he literally elevated the suspense.

The only thing I had a problem with were the flashbacks to things that were just said. Other than that, I was intrigued by it. The artstyle isn't very flashy, but that doesn't mean it's bad by any means. It reminded me of an Urasawa manga, which is 100% a good thing

Yeah. I thought it looked really good from the synopsis and the PVs, but nothing about the first episode stood out to me besides the mom’s overly-cool reaction about her husband killing a man. Everything was mid as heck and it was pretty disappointing.

It’s not just the animation. It’s a thriller, not a shounen. There’s no real reason for it to have demon slayer-level animation, and nobody expected it to. But the production as a whole, factoring in the jarring pacing of the episode, the mid voice acting, and the overall feel, everything just feels out of sync with the story I think it’s trying to tell. The issue people have is with this show is it’s overall production, not how pretty it looks at a first glance.

I just don't care about animation and art styles. If the story is interesting I'm in. And this show actually made me interested enough to try the manga. I am looking forward to it.

I'm intrigued enough by the story so far to want to continue watching, but even from just the opening I was going "oh no this looks like ass"
Like the way some of the scenes transition feel annoying at best and flat out confusing at worst.

"Nah, it doesn't have fight scenes so I can just watch the anime as a colored motion comic with voice acting. I'm just gonna ignore how much they're butchering it so much the first literal episode is outsourced."

this whole thread in a nutshell

Well I've followed the manga for quite some time and I'm sticking with the show just for that sake. They could've done a much better job but then again these kinds of shows aren't for a wide audience which justifies the low budget production.

Yeah i feel you. I had high expectations for this show but the first episode didn't really make the best first impression at all which is sad since I found the premise of the show very interesting. Hopefully it gets better but I lost a lot of the hype I had for this show

They never announce they are co-producing a show.
You basically have to go out of your way to get this information.

But they were also 3rd on the committee.
So of all the investors, they were the ones who invested the 3rd most amount of money, only behind Kodansha and Nippon Columbia.

That’s why I consider this show RUINED.

It looks horrible. I don't care about art style usually but this has bad art style, bad animation awful voice acting and weird pacing. Even worse is that it has an interesting premise, and isn't some bad shlocky death game anime that you watch just because it is bad. Also someone mentioned Monster here but I highly disagree, monster maybe looks generic but it has ok animation while this show doesn't. Heck even the opening has really shit animation and when that's the case you really know something is up. And most of the people here aren't saying that the story/plot is bad but that it just looks awful.
It's the same thing with that first Junji Ito anime from few years ago, that was a complete disgrace to his name.

it was pretty funny, the direction is absolutely awful. The story is interesting though, I think the idea of a mom and dad murdering yakuza is pretty iconic. I'll continue this just for the pure aspect of watching them take on gang members haha

the voice acting of the dad pissed me off immediately, but I got over it pretty quickly. everything about this episode is awful, but I can watch cringey shit with ease

Same here bro I thought it was pretty normal to me I mean the animation isn’t spectacular like Ufotable level but it was still fine tbh. The art is fine it’s just that the animation needs to be a lil more fluid, the still frames kinda surprised me bc usually episode 1 of any anime has great animation yk

ye nothing spectacular, a very generic animation and art style but saying the voice acting is "terrible" is such BS. (I've watched my fair share of Isekai, I would know)

And yes, directing is weird too but it got some interesting premise, I kinda vibe with this tbh.
