When talking about hobbies you enjoy with people who know nothing about it, do you typically try to dumb it down or only talk about mainstream examples? (Examples inside)

| Like let's say you're talking about anime with people who aren't anime fans. Do you "Dumb it down" (like only talk about mainstream examples, don't go into much detail, keeping it vague, etc.) or do you just talk about it openly. Since Most people probably won't know what a "Chainsaw Man" is. Like say i'm into Yugioh, if i'm around non yugioh players, i just tell them i like Yugioh and don't tell them the cards i play and everything. Any hobby that's not mainstream and people in general don't really know much about. |

| I don't really talk about anime to non anime fans, but when I do I talk openly because I have found out that there is no point in choosing, since they will judge anyway. |
| I just talk open and provide more information about stuff they would likely not know, for example if I would speak about Buhurt to someone who never touched anything related even Reconstructions or Hema or Jousting than I would explain much more to make sure they even know what I am speaking about. Like I would explain the basic rules, how it look like, some slangs for ex. Sabatons [Steel Boots] etc. etc. When for example I would speak with someone who is doing the same proffession or hobby like let's say an another archeaologist student who is mainly interested in WWII stuff and I am more of the Ancient-Middle Ages period time interested, there will less words to say as I don't need to explain something which he/she already knows so I would skip the parts we share in common/knowledge and go into the parts which that person wouldn't know most likely, which is straight to the details with explanation. For ex. I wouldn't say more about the excavation process which is the same but I would go more into details like that I had to deal with x amount of arrowheads and axes which are from that and that period etc. etc. from that culture/country/town/region etc. etc. instead of explaining on how you excavate it, how I went into process of analysing it, measuring it etc. etc. cause the other person in my proffession will know it very well. There is no point in dumbing it down, unless if you are unable to explain that properly. |

| The word "Dumb it down" is a bit insulting. We know each person has unique abilities and skills. I would prefer to say I keep everything at the surface level, and depending on his/her interest in what I say, I would add more and more details as the conversation goes on |

| I usually keep things pretty simple. If the other person doesn’t find the conversation engaging, or they’re confused and can’t follow what I’m saying, there’s not much point in even having it in the first place. If they want more detail, they can always ask me. |

| For anime if they're close enough I'll just say whatever I want. If they're just acquaintances who like mainstream-ish anime then I'll stick to stuff similar to what they like. Other people I won't mention anime/manga to, except for maybe if they mention something in conversation that has similarities with an anime I watched. For other interests (not anime/manga) I'd be pretty willing to get into the weeds a bit, but if they don't seem interested then I won't go further. I don't mind talking to other people in-depth about their hobbies/interests that I knew little/nada about, so I'm sure some people won't mind hearing about my interests. If someone's somewhat passionate about something I don't know about, it can be a chance for me to learn. |
