The animation looks gorgeous to me, people can just enjoy the anime without complaint about silly things.

Trying to use a realistic approach it's always the better option, I like more the animation of Wings of Honneimasse, GiTS, Jin-Roh, Akira and those high cost movies/OVA's between 1987-1995, sadly that type of animation is gone forever, it requires too much effort and time nowadays for a studio, if you can't do that then going this way is better... Berserk, Vinland Saga, Vagabond, Blade of the Inmortal, Samurai Executioner, Devilman, all those mangas should be adapted trying to be the most realistic they can, sadly Yuasa already butchered Devilman with his ugly art-style.

Chainsaw Man almost feels like an animated live-action show rather than an "anime" at some times. The CSM director Ryu Nakayama has stated that he wants to make CSM realistic like a live-action show. Is Mappa going too far with this approach or do you think all of this is fine?

bro anime to good, is a complaint i can smile at we have come so far:)

honestly get your point, but i think that its great to see that much love effort and talent go into an anime, just watch the scene in episode five where denji and aki is shown waking up and living together, Stunning!

I will say that this episode was extremely boring at times. They are pacing it like we are watching some deep philosophical piece about the human condition, when at the end of the episode Denji literally takes his feces covered hands to feels Power’s boobs lol. The shots were cinematic but that was like using cinematic shots for a Teletubbies episode.

i think it was mappa showing off, and also to show a harsh shift from piece to when power moves in. but i get your point.

Ya I get that would think there could’ve been better moments to show off then mundane things, this isn’t a Ghibli film but more than anything was completely grossed out.

I am disgusted by feces and stuff similar to that. I am fine with glimpses I guess but it was used as an element of fan service which jfc I hate it so much, if there’s more feces fetish stuff I might drop.

yeah that stuff is a bit weird, the writer/mangaka is definetely not a person id like to meet, the story is amazing tho. yeah not much poop but quite a bit of vomitting, so yeah cant deal with that stuff dont watch, this series is definetely trying some shock stuff at points haha.

I haven't really looked at the small details in the anime but I don't think making it realistic in a way is a bad thing. It may even make it more appealing for some people.

My only issue is Denji's never changing face expressions on some parts of episodes, other than that it's pretty much fine the way it is IMO

Boy you forgot to put the word "rotoscope" in the tags, because it has some scenes witch falls under it. And from someone who is not an expert, but has seen a fair amount of animation, I can say CSM used that teqnique in some degree. Is that bad? It's subjective. BTW using sakugaboru for your argument...

I like "realistic" approach to Chainsaw Man, most anime released today look visually boring(not bad) I am glad that MAPPA does not follow unwritten rules how modern anime should look. Anime is about artistic expression but what is the point if every anime released recently look exactly the same, this is why art is falling apart, because it is always about the money and what appeal to the masses and not different approach to styles and expression

I think it was intentional to give Denji blank stare and dull face expression for most of time. It exposed more him more as a simpleton who had lived pretty harsh life, washed out of many emotions or memories that are standard for majority of people. Look how he got excited over small things. Just like a child, and in a way he was a child deep inside his heart, since many things felt completely new to him or even unreal, because he didn't expect his life to change that drastically.

CG1man is not an anime that is too realistic, it is just a show that is overrated by the manga readers who thought that it would be an anime superior to JJk, Kimetsu and AOT in terms of mainstream record and it was not.

I'm voting for "it's fine". I may be talking out of my ass, but better going to far, than not far enough.
