Interstellar 5555, ah yes Daft Punk's little project from the 2000s. I remember my first exposure to Daft Punk was via the songs from the Discovery album and more or less coming across scenes from this particular movie and at the time I had no idea it was from this movie and I must've seen the Harder Better Faster Stronger segment so many times growing up. But now that I've seen I will say it was pretty good I must say. The story I feel like there isn't a point to discussing because your not really here for that kind of thing and I feel the music and the visuals for this movie tell the story without any use of dialogue or using many sound effects which there are, but there aren't many sounds besides the music that's playing in the background. What I would summarise with this film is essentially think Fantasia but it's anime but instead of classical music it's using Daft Punk music.

Because the french duo themselves composed the music much like they did with Tron Legacy, it's automatically amazing and I feel like it compliments the art style of the movie very well and I like at times the music is synching up with what's happening onscreen which I feel is a neat little feature of itself. The only drawbacks I'd say the movie has going for it is that because the film focuses more with it's visual and music, the story and characters kind of take a back seat here but again your not here for those things here and it's not a huge issue I have with the movie itself. Although there were a few songs that I didn't really like, Voyager and Too Long were the only ones I had an issue. Voyager I thought was okay worked with the sequence it had but ultimately it was a dull song for me. Too Long? Bleh, just make it stop already, I mean I know Daft Punk are known for sampling their works and their also known for repetition as well but I feel like with the limited lyrics the latter song had and the fact that it went far longer then I wanted and it's THE longest song in the whole movie and easily the worst song for me I think about the 5 minute mark it was that I just got sick and tired of it at some point and I just went: "God this is so annoying just end already."

Otherwise this was a pretty good experience it's not really the most thought provoking piece of media but if you are an anime fan or your simply a Daft Punk fan, this is something I'd recommend. Combine it with 90s esque animation with the killer soundtrack and you have yourself an enjoyable time here. It is very good as a piece of Daft Punk memorabilia give it a look when you can.

Awesome movie. The animation was great, the designs and art style were cool, and having no dialogue let them fit a compelling story into the relatively short runtime. Reminded me of the Daicon animations and Killroy Was Here. This kind of concept being feature length was a real treat.

bro this was perfect, idk i feel people critique this like it was an anime when even in myanimelist is classified as music, it doesnt need to have profound characters or some stuff like that, it does have some sense but the point is being crazy, like leiji said at the start, he saw some colors and sh and he put all that gibberish in this anime, and it works quite well, it feels like you could put it on the background, or even to hear the album while this animation is going on, nothing deep or movie like its just a long music video (long because its a full album), i am not a fan of Daft Punk but i like their music, people talking about plot its nonsense for me.

Idk good colors/style and good for vibe idk it just music with animation on top, i think people focused on the wrong when they talk sh about this.

hahah this feels like that regular show clip of that guy on the videostore or sum that is watching this colorful and weird "anime" on his crt

Watched this again after ages as a homage to Leiji Matsumoto, but I'm even more convinced now that his style and pop music go well together like chocolate milk and green peppers (or blue ones, in this case). Admittedly, French house is not the easiest type of music to adapt visually. That said, although not as bad and pointless as Bohemian Rhapsody, Interstella is simply a collection of music videos, hard to slightly get invested into; with its flat characters and basic plot, it goes on and leaves you nothing. Only pleasurable, or even "perfect", for stans of the band and/or the artist.
Animation is far from spectacular thanks to the many recycled scenes, but looks perfectly fine for 2003. Not into the senseless gothic castle segment nor the transformation into famous 60's/70's rockstars. The ending is cute.
Daft Punk aren't among my favorites, although they're nowhere as overrated as Queen. I still own this album but almost never listen to it. One More Time and Too Long are the worst tracks, and unfortunately also the very first and last ones.

Fave track: Aerodynamic, Voyager
Fave video: Something About Us
Worst combo: Voyager, Face To Face
Best combo: Digital Love

RIP space cadet. RIP Matsumoto-sensei.

watching, waiting, commiserating
