I'm p sure everyone agrees that more guys would be nice. | I think it's one thing to be disappointed by a lack of male characters and want more to be added. And another thing entirely to emotionally overinvest into a franchise that for decades has made it poignantly clear it's target demographic is not something you're a part of only for you to antagonize it's actual target demographic because the franchise intended for them does things that appeals to them instead of changing itself to appeal to you instead. This isn't a reply to Mira because I think her take is pretty reasonable, but there's no shortage of people in this fandom who constantly make it a point to antagonize waifufags and devalue female characters just to make it clear how much they think male characters are better and would totes sell more b/c lolTwitter likes. If you're gonna emotionally overinvest into a waifufag franchise and then get assblasted when said waifufag franchise appeals to waifufags on a regular basis to the point where you'll start fandom drama over it, then at that point it might be time to re-evaluate why in the actual fuck are you playing Fate fucking Grand Order and expecting a male dating sim. It has the same energy as Genshintards antagonizing Honkaifags over the latter not wanting a mixed-gender ratio in Honkai Star Rail after like 6 years of Honkai being an exclusively all-female yuri-oriented game. |

Well, that's a shame. It's no wonder it's not as appreciated by fans compared to what came before and definitely what came after. I was never hyped for Douman so I'm fine with his character taking less time, but I'm bummed by what they did to Ibuki Douji. You'd think she'd have much more presence in her own debut chapter, but apparently not. But hey, at least it goes up from here. Can't wait for your thoughts on Avalon and Morgan in particular. |

One, he's a decently famous Japanese mythological figure just by virtue of association with Abe no Seimei being his rival. Servants being based on historical figures means there's a certain level of excitement or popularity to be had just from who they are based on. Two, he's an overarching antagonist that's been in the game since 2017 and things like that tend to build up expectation and excitement within players for when that character eventually becomes playable. They're less prone to being forgotten in a 200+ characters media if they're a reoccurent presence in the story. Three, the handsome sadistic male archetype just tends to be popular among female fans for the same reason why Schizomouche in Genshin is popular. Ashiya Douman was fairly popular pre-Heian Kyo and a lot of people thought he had a pretty good design. None of these three factors would universally make a popular character necessarily, but if you combine them there's a pretty decent chance it would. |
