I cant believe people inbox me to get the staffs social media account or email address saying they wanna give 'feedbacks' for improvements in future episodes.....π I am not a leaker, like the f*** i would know mappa director of photography email or weibo account??? This is my answer : π©π©π© π», you are lucky i am not revealing your account name here π€ I have been keeping silence for the past few days and i will no longer update the infos i got, i come to a conclusion its better to watch the show with ZERO knowledge to assess it objectively, because what i am seeing here, people are just using those infos to imagine & deduce so many things that we don't know but take it almost as facts when the source is from insider staff. This would already insert preconceptions (both good & bad) onto the series before it has even completed the airing... Also if y'all still insisting with ideas like 'fans deserve better, no CGI' 'aot should get perfect adaption like WIT level of animation' 'mappa shouldn't accept the offer to do s4' etc. etc. I suggest you guys read @Kaito10 's post here: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1880830&show=50#msg61356665 This entire thing is super complicated you can blame kodansha for this planning & schedule , you can blame mappa as an incapable studio for taking this project, but ask yourself, have you contributed anything substantially to help with the manga and anime digital sales also the merchandise products etc. to support the industry? I bet many of us can't help to watch the show on pirate sites right after it went live, and when the leaked manga is out, i bet y'all are so hyped to check it & spread it on twitter already....even in that mappa showcase, i saw international fans complaining the japanese fans not leaking any infos when we didn't pay any shits to the event but we expect others to risk committing illegal acts for fans??? i am not trying to criticize anyone here morally because I'm part of this egoistical fandom too, so at least understand mappa situations here and kodansha ultimate goal for this anime is to raise the manga sales since it is ending soon next year but the sales hasn't been as good compared to other series like kny, jjk from shueisha, and as a business company it's normal for them to do so to maximize the profits from this franchise after they see KnY's success, so this entire thing is results from the industry culture and capitalism, it's not something we can resolve right away by simply trashing on any side of them. Also you guys think shitting on mappa studio itself has nothing to do with the staffs? you think the higher-ups would be sitting there to read the complains below official site? it's always the staffs that would had to handle these because they are people on the first line production, it's their responsibility for the products they create... and fans complains can only be conveyed through the staffs themselves to the higher-ups, but how many of you would leave comments like please take good care of the staffs, please don't overwork staffs, please stop taking new projects? most comments i saw are all about how badly this show has turned..how bad cgi is... how the show is a downgrade...how mappa quality drops etc etc. so how do you expect the responsibility would go? it's going to the freaking production staffs !!!! Not saying y'all can't criticize the work, you can!! but please be reasonable & judge it fair when show has completed the airing or at least wait till the climax episodes are out to see if they done a good job there than fear-mongering entire series after each and every episode Currently the staff personal weibo account literally turns into a 'mappa customer centre of feedbacks & complains' .... every day there are 'feedback' comments saying: how this episode directing should have been done....how characters designs should have been drawn..how filters should be used....questioning why WIT can do 2D in short time too but why mappa can't??...why do they decide to use CGI??...and why airing on NHK station????....why pacing takes 2 chp for 1 episode.....ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ» good job aot fans, you are the most dedicated fans i have seen, might as well you guys gather some funds & direct the entire series yourself I will no longer disclose any information i got from there to prevent further staff harassments, I hope you guys enjoy the show as much , we all have different preferences in the criteria used to judge a show's quality, it's subjective after all so please judge with your own opinions, don't get steered and affected by others be it negative or positive views and don't force others to agree with your ideas, thanks! Thanks for mentioning me! I'm glad to see that people like what I wrote there. I'd like to make a separate more detailed thread about it so that more people can find it, which I'm working on, but laziness gets to me...I'll get hyped today with ep.2 so the thread will write itself basically. |

Rearranging is not a bad thing as long as most of it gets animated and it makes sense. Some people don’t realize that the 104th training chapters happened AFTER the Trost arc in the manga. Wit moved it way up before the Trost arc. Rearranging can be a good thing. |

Since there are many people bothered by the use of filter in early episode, the director decided to share some of his technical knowledge about the use of filter in the animation. I decided to share it here too for people with similar concerns as this is just some technical infos. Translations: C: Here’s a simple explanation for the technical use of the filter So what exactly is that ‘blur’ effect? That is called a soft light filter. Friends who have studied photography would know that there is a type of lens that you can add on camera to create a slightly blurred effect. In the animation, in order to improve the image texture & depth, it is added to imitate the soft light effects in real life. This is the technical idea for your so-called ‘blurry’ effects Q: Can this soft light filter weaken the jarring effects between 3D object and 2d background? After all you guys are using cel-shading in CGI, the soft light filter can make the whole image looks well-blended together right? A: Well i think this actually has little to do with the use of CGI. The addition of soft light is not to blend the CGI with the background either. The main reason for its use is still related to the environment of this field. This one was on a sandy battlefield, it was a bright day & there’s big sun, the air is hot and there were no plants around. If the overall image is too rigid with strong contrast & colour saturation, it is less realistic and feel like something else. So, i think this is a more appropriate way to deal with it Q: Oh..I thought it was some high-blurs filter added as the after effects in adjustment layer A: The photographer just added a little soft light. From a technical point of view, it is normal for the lens to have a little soft light in a bright sunny day, I don't see a technical error in the decision to add this effect. Q: In addition, I found that some of the characters in this season have darker colors on the edges like an outline (for example, the edges of the face are a little bit darker), I wonder if this is done by photography staff too A: There are many ways to explain this color treatment... but in this case I am not in charge of the animation in ep 1, and we can only guess the possibilities using the image we saw on screen, which is a reverse way of inferring the creator’s intention from results, I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to comment on this. Hope this clarifies a bit on the filter used in ep 1, i think the use of this filter is to imitate the realistic sense in a battlefield especially that place is desert-like with sands and bombings going on, and the sun will give a soft light effect as shown, here’s a real life image of desert in a bright day My thoughts on Ep 2: After watching episode 2, I am more certain of the idea of realism in this season, the entire episode has a strong real-life movie effects, the camera work is very interesting it almost feel like someone is holding the camera when shooting those scenes but a bit shaky for zeke & colt scene π . Also with the use of soft lights & shadows transitions especially the scene with Reiner and child warriors at the port during sunset, that’s so beautifully shot!!! The color, emotions, music, everything is so perfect in that moment, Gabi never looks that good to me lol!!! And i can almost empathize with Reiner’s emotions & POV there!!! We also see crisp image of the characters in other environments under different lightings, honestly the director of photography is doing such a great job here, so please watch more episodes before going around to file complaints on the use of filters looolll... I am also surprised by the use of rotoscope in character acting, it’s so fluid almost like watching a theatre-style acting in Udo scene though it’s weird to me at first.. perhaps i have never seen it happened in a dialogue scene and the only rotoscope animation i have seen is the infamous Chika’s dance from Kaguya sama lmaoo...so I really appreciate the efforts of the staffs put in here despite of the tight schedule and i see their determination to pursue their originality from WIT’s previous works. As for pacing, I wouldn't comment much on this since some scenes are rearranged and i will wait for next episode before i give my opinions on this but so far so good, i’am alright with the pieck crawling scene gone, i am hoping for next episode to portray the relationship between the warriors so we can empathize with them better, but it’s a pity they couldn’t include the eldian troops passing by the marleyans during their return..that’s one thing... Music, damn this episode.. The use of acoustic osts hit hard especially with the scenes at the port and the eldians reunite with their family and the use of eerie sounds when reiner talked about paradis almost make me feel like watching some old war movies of a veteran telling his traumatic past Overall, I am so so impressed by the character acting this episode, the transitions of characters expressions with use of shadows especially reiner and zeke are very well done!!! The character designs consistencies are almost close to perfect except for the scene of the warriors meeting in zeke’s room, ngl porco and reiner faces look different there...but overall the scene is meant to focus on zeke speaking i only noticed the inconsistencies when i watch it on live but watching the sub-version i literally concentrate more on zeke’s motions and the subs, so not a big deal here to me. Lastly, SASUGA PIECK-CHAN!!!!!! IT’S PIECK SUPREMACYYYY THIS EPISODE!!! Love her designs in every scene, please be my ONEEEE-CHANN!!! |

Damn..I wasn't planning to share this...but i am so mad so i don't care now, and since the staff made a reply, might as well I shared it here as many people on this forum seem to hold the same opinion π Q: As a manga reader, watching Wit's first three seasons feels like reading the original (sometimes even surpass the original manga), but these two episodes by MAPPA are like fan-crowdfunding works. "Night Train" and "The Liar" are two very brilliantly-written chapters in Marley arc, which laid an important foundation for Reiner's character. I can't believe you guys just handle these 2 chapters so carelessly like some half-ass job, i am so worried for future episodes..... C: Your idea is actually very good. Fans should totally start a crowdfunding and request WIT studio to do it. Make sure you guys check the schedule of WIT and the original team. If you guys have enough money, maybe the production committee and Kodansha will be tempted. π PS: This is only ONE of out the daily complaints on the staff personal account, there are MANY more shitty comments after episode 2 release ...sigh.... Love her designs in every scene, please be my ONEEEE-CHANN!!! wow he is so kind explaining all these details to fans, i hope people can understand their intentions of using the effects instead of just bitching about it like it's a mistake, ep 2 certainly got the best use of the blur effects in many scenes, props to the photography team!!! hinako49 said: Damn..I wasn't planning to share this...but i am so mad so i don't care now, and since the staff made a reply, might as well I shared it here as many people on this forum seem to hold the same opinion π Q: As a manga reader, watching Wit's first three seasons feels like reading the original (sometimes even surpass the original manga), but these two episodes by MAPPA are like fan-crowdfunding works. WHAT DID THE STAFF DO TO DESERVE THIS KIND OF TREATMENTS ?????? π what the hell is going on in aot community omg, ask the staff to report these harassing assh**** |
