Getting besotted with a spirit and indulging in sweet and salty snacks over a nice audiobook after midnight. Unfortunately, I almost always drift off in less than an hour or so, only to wake up several hours later, which is when I finally drag myself off to bed.

Do you have a significant problem with noise? If so, how do you cope?

Yes I do, specially the high pitched noises or the unnecessary ones like meanless chatter. I cope up by entertaining myself like sleep or eavesdrop instead, but normally I wear my headphones and put them on full blast. A wonderful noise to cover bad ones.

Same question, as we have different ways

Because:
- I've always preferred animation over live-action
- I have low tolerance for long videos, so 24 minutes episodes are far more attractive than the frequent hour long TV episodes or movies
- It allows me to stay indoors =w=

Hmm... tough one :s
I wish the anime industry worked together to make lots of really great shows rather than one or two great ones each season and then the rest range from good to terrible >_< but of course, this is just not how the world works currently ^^'
I also wish anime were more mainstream in the west (well it kind of is already, but I wish it were even more mainstream) :3

Not something that I've pondered deeply, but I'll bite. I dislike (“hate” may be too strong of a word here) how some shows have never gotten a second season, despite their high quality and even popularity. As for long-running shows, I don't particularly care for the abundance of filler episodes. Above all, it's regrettable that the workers in the industry (not just the voice actors and actresses) tend not to be paid very well.

If tomorrow you were given the chance to explore the Solar System - and beyond - for the rest of your life, would you do so, even if it meant leaving behind everything you know and care about?

Hmmm... it would depend on the rate of travel!! To me, the whole purpose of living is to not die as just another man!! I want to stand out, to make a name!! So this would be too good of an opportunity to pass!! But human life is too short, and if doing that means that I'll waste most of the just waiting in my transport... then that would be a waste too!! But then again... there's also cryotech, or other ways to preserve life... so sure... why not!! Sign me up!! (≧▽≦)/

The ancient Greeks :D (Not because they were barbarians, but because they used that term in an ethnocentric sense to designate peoples outside of their own civilization.) A moment later and I might've answered with Conan the Barbarian.

Would you be open to having humankind ruled by benevolent despots of another species, whether alien or AI (assuming that they would put a permanent end to most if not all environmental and geopolitical conflicts)?

It really depends on how these despots manage to do establish themselves as rulers and how do they achieve to end every conflict. If no mind control, strict laws or constant threats are in play in making the world a better place then it sounds like a good deal, especially if the depot is ruling voluntarily.

Metafalss in the Ar Tonelico universe. The whole ar tonelico universe is just filled with awesome places tbh, Metafalss is just a fan favourite of mine especially after it literally becomes an utopia.
If Ar Tonelico doesn't count as an anime, then the drawn city from Kyousou Giga is another interesting utopia.

I doubt that there is a way to be certain about such a thing. While we can perhaps be generally confident about the broad strokes of our recollection of events, the details are another story. It's arguable that much if not most of our memories are not only malleable but also fictional, and in any case they're obviously nowhere near as accurate as the footage from a video camera. What's more, there's the inconvenient fact that as we move further away (temporally speaking) from a given event, the possibility of corruption and error increases. It may not be an exaggeration to say that the status of being an eyewitness is time-sensitive.

From a Scientific American article on eyewitness testimony:

Reconstructing Memories
The uncritical acceptance of eyewitness accounts may stem from a popular misconception of how memory works. Many people believe that human memory works like a video recorder: the mind records events and then, on cue, plays back an exact replica of them. On the contrary, psychologists have found that memories are reconstructed rather than played back each time we recall them. The act of remembering, says eminent memory researcher and psychologist Elizabeth F. Loftus of the University of California, Irvine, is “more akin to putting puzzle pieces together than retrieving a video recording.” Even questioning by a lawyer can alter the witness’s testimony because fragments of the memory may unknowingly be combined with information provided by the questioner, leading to inaccurate recall.

From Bertrand Russell:

There is no logical impossibility in the hypothesis that the world sprang into being five minutes ago, exactly as it then was, with a population that "remembered" a wholly unreal past. There is no logically necessary connection between events at different times; therefore nothing that is happening now or will happen in the future can disprove the hypothesis that the world began five minutes ago.

I think his reasoning is sound. There's also the age-old epistemological question of to what extent we can trust our senses (assuming we can trust them at all), blah blah blah.

Which would you prefer (for the rest of your life or at least until typical retirement age): to spend all of your waking hours on a job that you love, or to spend half of your waking hours on a job that you hate?

Would it really matter if our life were fake, if reality were to not really be real?

To begin with, does anything actually "matter" outside of our personal and subjective universes? My take is that "value" (at least the kind that is not contingent on utility) is not an intrinsic property that stands on its own, but something that we superimpose rather than discover. As far as I'm concerned, life is little more than a protracted dream, not quite unreal but not quite real either. For me the reality (or lack thereof) of life largely lies in its ephemerality, and that's one of the things that I lament the most.
