Wow. This was a surprising announcement. It's been YEARS since Eureka Seven aired. It's been so long that I hardly remember anything about it. I'm all for watching some compilation films though. Maybe I'll like it more this time around. :D Anyone else excited?

Seriously, this came out of nowhere.

It's a real shame that it's prequel + recap, though. Was really hoping for a true sequel to the original series, but perhaps the success of this could warrant the creation of such a sequel.

Excited!

Nice to see the first film will at least be original content. The teaser showed promise which is good, and I doubt these recap films can be worse than AO.

So if this gets attention, it provides a good entry point for newer viewers to jump in.

This is what I've been thinking since I last watched it in 2016. I'm especially happy they chose to do a trilogy and not just one movie.

What makes me even more happy is the fact that they choose to retell the original story. Being old or not, the messages of this Anime are ever so important in times like these.

These news came out of a sudden and they make me absolutely happy. Eureka Seven is one of the anime shows I'll never forget and will always love. Even if it will be a retelling of the known plot, it could be made by an interesting new point of view. To shorten the story of 50 eps into three movies isn't maybe perfect, but as lots of you are telling it could be promising for a new season of E7 which will directly continue the events of the finale.
Nevertheless I am totally thrilled and gonna now fainting about this awesome announcement x3
(Btw what coincidence, but I read "Gravity Boys & Lifting Girl" last week :D)

I'm honestly so happy. Though some don't like it (and some dismiss it as an Evangelion clone, which it is but still good) it's remained in my favourites for years and pretty much taught me a few a lessons during my childhood and teen years. A prequel would be great since the whole summer of love stuff was just brushed over

If you are a fan of Eureka Seven and the sequel Eureka Seven AO, you have invested almost 30 hours of your life watching the 74 episodes that comprise the whole series. I believe one of the hallmarks of a good story are characters that you really care about, and E7 had them in spades. E7 had an entire pantheon of interesting characters whose lives did not get, in my opinion, enough attention and background exploration -- this could certainly be a source of story material, but we won't know until it is released what the new story (stories) will be about.
The main problem with E7 was the overly complicated drama around how the Scubs interacted and threatened humanity. Honestly it was weak and confusing and detracted from what was otherwise a masterpiece of a story. I am not sure if that aspect of E7 can be fixed at this late date, but I would certainly welcome it.

Wow, just when I think Bones is done with this franchise they blindside me. The original series is my #1 favorite anime, so I'm always stoked about anything E7.

But what really excites me is the return of Dai Sato, screenplay writer of the original series, who was notably absent from both the previous film and AO.

I love the original series a lot, it really resonated with what was going on in my life back then, so I am very happy to see the original characters and world return!

E7: Amazing
Pocket Full of Rainbows (alternate universe movie): Bad
E7 AO (sequel): Bad

However, all evidence points that any new content created for the series falls flat. So I am a little worried about the prequel material and the new ending. Really hope they don't screw it up. The returning original staff is a good start, and I love how they kept the robots in 2D animation and not 3D CGI. Keeping the original's style is also a good sign.

This is essentially a Rebuild of Evangelion applied to Eureka Seven. Obviously 50 episodes won't fit into 3 films, so I hope that new content and alterations to the story are applied wisely so that the original's premise remains consistent and impactful.

From what I understand the first movie is a prequel, back when Eureka was a solider and a killer. So it makes sense that she's more cold. I think they'll soften her animation in the later films after she meets Renton.

Sounds like it's a prequel, reimagining, and a sequel all in one. I can get on board with this! I'm so excited they're revisiting Eureka 7 and having the original characters take the helm again. I hope they just forget AO ever happened (I certainly have), considering it'll have a different ending, this seems like it'll take a different path.

Anyways, I'm pumped and excited to see how this turns out, Eureka 7 is one of my favorite animes ever. I thought Eureka 7 was as good as done after AO, this announcement came out of nowhere!

Eureka Seven is my most dearly beloved anime series ever, and to be honest I don't want this to be trash because I would really enjoy to know what happened before and to give a little more depth to the story. I'm just hopping that this won't suck as much as AO did.

It has been such a long time!
I have fallen in love with this franchise, since the first time I came across the first opening. I also have no qualms with Pocket full of Rainbows and AO [Although I'm still not sure if AO is a sequel or an alternate universe like Rainbows].
This news has really taken me by surprise, as I visited the old website [eureka-prj.net] 2 weeks ago and there was no change. Since the anouncment, you are forwarded to the new site (which Google translate quite well)
There seems to be a lot of apprehension for films 2 and 3 will deliver but people are forgetting that an "original ending" has been mentioned. Which leaves me wandering if the third film will partially become a sequel to the original series.
Either way if you're a fan of the franchise then you will love it no matter the outcome.

Put your hands up if you're looking forward to see Eureka in her SOF uniform.

I was not expecting this.

The original series is one of my favorite anime ever. AO was disappointing, but I have hope that this will be a great way to bring us back into that universe. I like that it's not just a retelling of the existing stories; we're getting a prequel and a sequel/"interquel" as well.

I can't wait :)

I feel this make it too easy to dig deeper into the hole they started with Ao. As in the attempt to answer questions or plot holes from it just makes it harder to push away or try a new series with even an inkling of the old cast.

How do you explain the fact Eureka is older than in the first series in the trailer? Because, the summer of love happened 10 before the original serie, so Eureka was 4, during the show she is 14 at the beginning, 16 at the end, and on the trailer, she looks adult. I don't understand how PlumJuice and I seem to be the only ones noticing that.
She's a coralian. She was born the way she currently looks. As for her looking like an adult, they did mention that this is getting a new ending, so that could be why she looks like an adult. But again, it's not set after the original series. Think of it as being to Eureka Seven, what Rebuild of Evangelion is to Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's basically a reboot that's going to have a new ending. Whether that means that AO is discarded from the continuity remains to be seen however. Though, as far as I know, most people don't like AO, so they wouldn't mind if that were to be the case. To again, to sum it up, it's a prequel+a recap of the original series with an original ending. Here's a summary from Anime News Network: "The films will follow The First Summer of Love phenomenon that occurred a decade before the first Eureka Seven series. The anime franchise thus far has hinted at, but never depicted in full, "the beginning of it all." The films will then have the same basic story as the first Eureka Seven series, but will have an original ending. The trilogy will have completely re-recorded lines, redone footage, and new scenes." http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-03-17/eureka-seven-gets-film-trilogy-set-a-decade-earlier-with-new-hardfloor-song/.113546
