Should people be more mindful of what may be offensive to others, or should those who are offended grow a thicker skin?

I think a little bit of both. These days it seems like everything is offensive to someone, which is kinda ridiculous. At the same time, there's no reason to be mean.

It really depends on what, when and who we are talking about, but as others have said already, it should generally be a good balance.

I think people are typically too sensitive, but that also doesn't give people the right to be an absolute cockhead and use the excuse "you're being too sensitive, it's just a prank bro." I think that people need to be respectful, but also feel free to joke around with each other too. Just don't be dicks to each other.

You can't go around biting your tongue all the time in an effort to appease people's sensitivities or defend their egos. However, don't be surprised when people get mad and retaliate.

Just because a certain word isn't offensive to you doesn't mean that others feel the same way. You have to understand that people are in different places in life and have different perspectives. For instance to me the word 'hoe / ho/ hoho' is entirely inoffensive, but some people might find it puts them in a terrible position so if they're upset I feel that.
I CELEBRATE myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

Here's the problem. People 'get mad and retaliate', but why so quick to reach for the knife? Why not tell people first why they did something offensive?

Well that's great if you can handle it calmly like that. I think it depends on just how mad they really are, lol. At a certain point... yeah, it's no holds barred...

That's a problem we have. We all need an enemy, and I can't say I didn't make my own. The true test is how willing we are to listen to those we dub as enemies.
