| I for one don't care for Esdeath, and she's not remotely close to being my favourite character in the show. I really don't understand the appeal but I'd hazard a guess that it's perhaps the chest (but not really), the fact she's a likable protagonist, I guess? I mean, I don't exactly hate her myself, and she hasn't necessarily done anything detrimental to Night Raid thus far. She's had several moments with the MC, and she's shown two sides of her, which could widen the appeal of her character to more people. Further, she doesn't exactly come off as overly evil, even with her torture to the weak. She works for the Capital, but she also has her own viewpoint and ideals rather than being a puppet. So I could see why people like her. Once again, I don't really care for her. She isn't a character I love or detest. |

| Well she's another yandere. She is obsessed with Tatsumi. The whole yandere thing makes a character more likable. Look at Gasai Yuno. Almost everyone that has watched Mirai Nikki has either loved her or hate her. It's natural. Such a character Esdeath is. |

She has more depth than any of the characters, who so far have gotten little screen time. And I normally don't like villains all that much. She is cruel to anybody she calls an enemy and lives for the fight, but is shown to be really compassionate to her troops. Hell, she even gets ice cream for them! She has a flawed way of thinking, but this was due to how she was raised... under a kill or be killed/strong die, weak live philosophy. She values strength over anything else and has great respect for her foes... at least the strong ones (if you read the manga, you'll see this sooner). The fact that she likes the main character adds more to her charm, as it shows she has a playful, warm side as well (even though I know I'll be heartbroken). I find her similar to Fuhrer Bradley from FMA in a way. Even though they're villains, they show respect to their foes and are quite generous to their subordinates. |

"She has more depth than any of the characters " On topic Esdeath is a lost villain she's a "meh" tier villain who does things because she loves to be evil or to satisfy her sadism,no deep meaning in her motives and her childish love for tatsumi was dumb from the get go it wasn't cute at all she's still 1 dimensional her fanbase is huge due to her appearance mostly: Nazy captain outfit,big boobs,fangirls over MC thus using her charm to flaunt her body,sadist. She's a pretty meh type character and a villain in general. She's a sadist and is ruthless, but so is every other villain in this series. She isn't the mastermind type of villain since she doesn't really plan shit, neither does she have any villainous goals at all, which is another huge minus for her. She can't decide on whether she wants to be a sadistic general or a little girl in love. She gave up on Tatsumi just as fast as she fell in love with him, for a rather simplistic reason. One in which is shared by about half the people posting in this thread (I noticed most people seem split down the middle about Esdeath, some love her and some hate her). While I disagree with yours, I respect it. Since you voiced it reasonably, and not like some other people who come off as a bit rude. That said, my reasons for liking her character were for none of those that you listed. And for me at least, a good villain doesn't have to a "mastermind" or the one "planning" things (hence my reference to Bradley, who is a well liked villain that isn't a mastermind). She's a general, so she's going to be taking orders. I've read the manga and watched the anime, and my thoughts just differ from yours. I thought she was given far more depth than other characters (whom I believe have little personality, though I have yet to dislike any of them). And the fact that she has a childish, little girl in love side as you put it, makes her different and more enjoyable for ME to watch. |
