On the topic of Death Note, I haven't watched the anime, but assuming that it's the same as the manga (which it should be since it's all plot/dialogue and very little animation) I say it was good but not great. If it had ended after the first "arc" with L, I would've been happy, but all the crap with Near was just ridiculous and killed a good story. Therefore, TTGL and KnK5 > Death Note and I don't know about LOGH. |

| Death Note gets knocked for being too popular. It's not cult to like it any more, since it aired on Adult Swim. It was one of the first series I watched that I really enjoyed (and yes, that includes the second half). In fact, I still think it's one of the most intense, fast-paced series out there. Have to agree that it's nowhere near LoGH in terms of content, though. |

I actually hear alot about Eva's popularity, especially in Jap. And FMA's popularity has died down a little since it's been out for so long, most likely. As for Code Geass, its popularity has been a huge thing since the end of the second season. It is somewhat similar to Death Notes case in some ways but different in others (R2 vs. second half of Death Note). The problem that people have most of the time is that when an anime is popular sometimes you will see people putting it on such a pedestal as too say its the greatest thing in anime history (not literally most of the time, but it feels like its implied). Its not so much as it makes the anime bad, but in some ways it makes the anime less enjoyable... I know it doesn't make sense but that's the way it is for some people. And the most important thing is, popularity =/= quality going both ways. I'm defiantly not saying that Death Note is bad, but you should never expect an anime to be good or bad because it is popular. Popularity in no way shows the quality of a series. |

| Meh people dont know what they talking about. Death Note has style, more than most other animes anyways (that does include the currently overrated ones). Anyways i am not here to make you understand how things really are. Was just pointing it out. Also it seems death note will stay for a while as top favorite at least. :) |

I'm just saying something needs to be more indulgent and unapproachable to be pretentious. A truly pretentious anime would not be ranked so high, since most of the viewers would get bored of it, or simply not get the appeal. If majority of casual viewers like something, chances are it's not pretensious. Though i am pretty weird and don't always associate pretentiousness with badness. |
