15 Chizuru hits her head and passes out. Very convenient. Curving bullets again, Haru? Very smart, Lizardman. You keep clinging to high places and decide to change strategy and jump in the water. An just after Haru used the water super form... Oh the USA, that strange and distant dimension no kaijin can reach. It really is a strange place. You can't even communicate with Japan from there. Action was great again. The water dragon form looks cool. Haru's dilemma was also interesting and that ending was very good. So, Flame Dragon has the dragon head, hurricane the wings and water the tail. Ground willl have another part. I think the white monster wants to give Haru a super form with all the parts together so that he can free Dragon. |

Ground will probably be the feet/claws of the dragon. Haruto himself is the body. ;). I agree that it kind of seems like there's something sinister behind Haruto's power ups. Could there be a phantom Haruto appearing in the near future? But then I remember this show's writers seem to shy away from any depth so I doubt it. Though it seems likely being a rider will eventually destroy him. I'm not watching this anymore either (and a bunch of other stuff) because I'm prioritizing guitar practice and writing, but I'll keep checking your reviews, m4rc0! |

Stay tuned! xd In a way, Wiz is the opposite of Gobus. It has good characters (except for Shunpei), but average villains (at least until now) and plotwise it's very common and they don't do dark stuff. Both have great action, though. |

The last few episodes I had been so tuned out of the show by the end of the episode that the action was lost on me. I really like the concepts and style though. It's true; Gobusters did have great action. But everything else was so lacklustre. |

17 What? Weren`t you the one that let him live a few episodes ago, Medusa? Why are you questioning the bug? At least he poisoned the guy. So, Haru is the cool and rational type so the his 2nd being an impulsive fool isn`t really a surprise. The whole danger is opportunity thing is cool and his personality is amusing. The mayonaise thin reminds me of Hijikata from Gintama. Beast's design is really cool. I liked it a lot. The animal concept is interesting in contrast to Haru's elemental concept. Changing animals to use new powers is also interesting. I wonder why he needs to eat the enemies' mana. The belt isn`t that cool. And I don't know why, but nowadays the 2nd's henshin pose is much more riderish and cool than the 1st's The phantom was cool. A shame they used him as fodder to show the new rider. |

Yes, the fact that it was just as expected shows how unoriginal it is. At least Beast didn't start as an "enemy". Just a rival. And not really a rival, because Haru doesn`t really care. It`s like Kakashi and Gai from Naruto. For Gai, Kakashi is his ultimate rival. Kakashi recognizes that, but he`s the cool type and doesn`t care unless it's one of the shounen moments. |

18 LOL @ the whole scene when Haru`s gang meet Mayonnaise. I'm always amazed at how the gates act normal or not worried enough after being attacked. I like how simple they made Beast's story and how they didn't try to keep anything secret. I also liked how he tried to listen to both sides instead of just attacking Haru. And the reason for his conflict with Wizard is a good one. Not a fan of chimera though. |

19 I wonder how Kou knew he could enter the underworld if he had never met a gate before... Giant fight was lame. The way they just ignored the fact that the stone came from a phantom was also lame. Controling gravity was cool and I wonder what's the plan for Haru. The conversations between the characters about Haru and Kou were good. And that bit about Kou not wanting a man putting a ring on his finger was very funny. |

Beast needs to eat the Phantom`s mana to survive. So new Phantoms being created is good for him. Wizard wants to prevent the creation of Phantoms to save the Gates. |

It turns out Beast is pretty heroic too, so he doesn`t want to put other people in danger to survive. Though he will still be Wizard's rival because he has to eat the Phantoms. @murasaki Well, it's a cat face, even if the cat is a lion... |

20 Beelzebud is a great Phantom, but other than that the episode was lame. Gate is very annoying. I hope Rinko's plot turns out to be interesting next ep. |

21 Why is white Wizard's belt so unpolite? LOL @ Mayo and Shunpei in the dancing class. Beelzebud was an awesome enemy. Rinko was very cute, but seeing her all nice to a Phantom was at least strange. So, Haru got a free power up and wnet all Zelda four swords. Not a big fan, but at least it's uncommon. Wizard started very well, but it doesn't get me very excited. I don't know, the action is great, the characters are cool... It just lacks something. I can't really express what. |

22 Shunpei could learn with Mayo how to be comically strange withoug being useless. Didn't like Sora. He's just one more of those happy go lucky villains. Medusa's still great though. The battle was nice and the comedy was good, but the episode was bland. Phoenix isn't interesting and everything seems too formulaic. |

23 Didn't like the complet form and the air battle wasn't that cool. I'm not wasily pleased with CG heavy fights. Sending Phoenix to the sun wasn't smart. He's made of fire and gets stronger when he dies. Eventually, he'll burn hotter than the sun and come back very strong. Not commenting on how fast he got to the sun. Rinko and Koyomi are too cute. And I still don't like Gremlim. It's strange how Shunpei acts as the straight man when Mayo plays the stupid man... |

24 LOL @ Kou transforming while seated and being a mahou shoujo. So, there are no Phantoms in Fukui, only in Tokyo... SO, Haruto can use BEast's rings. Cool. Gremlim sucks, but he has a good plan. But that whole grandma plot is overused. |

25 Couldn't care for Kou's drama. And all that doesn't suit his personality. Oh, Beast used the Kimmiku Buster! The episode's highlight. Well, there was that time when Medusa used wiz as abowling ball... The strategy wasn't really clever and it wasn't cool. Gremlin is boring as hell. |

26 It's funny how Kou thinks it's normal to look at a high shcool girl's legs and say she's cute while he's in the streets with a mayonnaise bottle and a rice thingy. Medusa didn't kill a rider when she could. Again... Shunpei crossdressing was funny. And the way he walked was priceless. Medusa's actress is cute when she's not doing her evil boss face, though she's isn't as awesome. Gremlim is still a pain, but there were some good comedy moments with Kou and Shunpei. The action was great as usual. An ok episode. |

27 Medusa doesn't kill the riders after beating them. Again. Medusa's actress is really good. She played 3 different roles and did well in all of them. What! Mayu held her phantom in and will now become a wizard? Will she become the 1st female non movie rider? Man, I really hope so. That'll redeem Wizard. 28 Isn't it funny how going overseas saves you from phantoms? Also is it just me or maybe the white wizard and wiseman are together or the same person? And creating gates is simply a way to create more Wizards for some reason that we'll learn later? Really? Beast just stumbles into a newspaper with a story about his new ring? Not much aside from that. They're really casting some strange types to play the phantoms. Also, Beast will get an upgrade. What's up with the 2nd getting the upgrade before the 1st these days? |

29 Koyomi didn't want to share Haru with Mayo. Also, some strange undertones in that scene. Kou was cool this episode. It was nice how they made him connect with the gate through his dream. I wonder what Haru's dream is. Rinko was super useful again. I like that. Hyper form isn't very cool. The second time in a row we have a black 2nd with a blue super form. Riders using guns too much isn't cool IMO. Also those things in the arms don't fit very well with his theme. Is it just me or Mayu was a basilisk, that turns people into stone, just like Misa was Medusa? |

30 Isn't that Legion guy the Douji from Hibiki. If so, is he Bishop from Kiva too? Awesome untransformed action. So Legion wrecks people's underworlds. A bit lame how Kou didn't use his super form to finish him and how he could fight Dragon and Chimaera at the same time. |

31 When Haru got the ring I heard in my head the words: afureru yuuki wa mahou ni kawaru. So, Infinity has a clock up. And his sword axe gets bigger and bigger. The Haru x Koyomi moment was good. Gremlin's moment with Wiseman was intriguing. And white Wiz's comment was very strange. Maybe he is Wiseman or at least is in league with him. Medusa's face at the end was priceless. Not a big fan of infinity. The head looks bald and the chest isn't that cool. It also is too shiny and fabulous for my taste. |

32 Man Haruto's imaginations are too pervy. How can beast be a rider if he doesn't have a bike? Gremlin's plan was smart and Medusa was awesome as always. The fights were lame this time. I know they wanted to give a different feel for Hobgoblin, but the fights were just slow... Let's see what Hob's plan will bring us. |

34 Chiaki is very cute. So Gremlim has his human mind intact. That's interesting. 35 That was a nice twist with Sora being a serial killer before he was a Phantom. That explains why he didn't shy away from killing people. Other than that, there wasn't anything of notice except for Chiaki's cuteness. |

37 The highlight of the episode was the manga style they used to show Kou being attacked by the birds. It was pretty clever. The lesson they gave nemoto was ok and the plot twist at the end too, even though it was strange and the next ep preview doesn't show them dealing with it. Overall, it was very boring. |

19 episodes in. Beast is pretty good. He certainly changes up the atmosphere for the better. His high-energy goofiness is what I guess I wanted from Shunpei in the beginning, you know? He might not know much about anything, but he's quick to get ask questions, decisive, and his goofiness isn't from being incredibly naive/clutzy (like Shunpei) and is balanced out by his power. But with a second rider the sidekicks seem even more useless. Rinko might not be the most incompetent police officer, but because the episodes are focused on the riders there's no time to actually show her talents so she just gets these "Oh Haruto! I found out the thing!" scenes. It makes me miss the strong females of Kiva. Yuri was pretty badass, and Megumi could hold her own. As for the rest of the sidekicks, Koyomi is more or less being strung along, as puppets are, which is a bit of a letdown. She has potentially one of the most interesting characters but I guess I'm stuck waiting to see what's done with it. I'm disappointed that Shigeru will probably stop being useful should there not be any more magic stones to fashion into rings. He's also the least characterized. We learned more about Beast in 2 episodes than we have about Shigeru in 19. I mean, what is his store anyway? Antique store I guess? Finally, I've already talked about the problems with Shunpei. Ugh. I think I would've preferred it if the sidekicks had gotten a chance at being riders. I just don't think they're handling the huge cast very well this time around. There's certainly been better series for characters. Wizard is more or less focused on its main plot, its incredibly slow unravel, and toy sales. I honestly feel like I'm just watching a very long toy commercial. I guess that's how it's meant to be, from Toei's point of view. Gone are the days when they actually cared about telling stories and making heroes. I didn't watch OOO and Fourze, but I don't remember W being quite this bad. Can I just say, though that I love the subtle food theme to this show? Doughnuts and Mayonnaise! |

38 It was nice seeing some progress in the plot with Gremlim and the stone guy. It was also nice to have a cool phantom again. Finally it was about time they showed more of Haruto's past. I still like how he and Rinko interact. I think one of the reasons Wiz is so weak is that they don't use the cast. I mean, Rinko is a very good character. Koyomi too. BOth have so many possibilities... But they keep focusing on the gates. It's the same thing they did in 4z. It wouldn't hurt leaving the gate and the phantom in 2nd plane sometimes to use the characters more. |

27 HOLY CRAP IF THEY DON'T GIVE ME A FEMALE RIDER I WILL JUST CRY. Just imagine how epic would a battle between Misa-Phantom and Mayu-Wizard would be!!!' I mean, I was ready for her to refuse. And then she didn't. And they went away! I'm terrified she'll get kicked of the "White Wizard's School of Magic" though because the fairer sex is weaker or something (unless they're evil). Right, that is exactly how I feel about it the series. The action is great (Holy crap the sword work is amazing), the designs are solid (rings are a bit bulky), overall concept is good, but the characters themselves are unfortunately underused. Finally we had an episode where Rinko was actually doing some useful police work, but in the end she was thrown into that very cliched plot arc where she tried to appeal to the "humanity" of a villain, only to fail miserably and have to await rescue. I didn't want Rinko to be portrayed as being so naive. It's terrible seeing her bumble around as much as she does. It's sadder than Shunpei sometimes. |

37: At this point I don't care much about Rinko and Shunpei; them and their storyline were just fluff. The real treat in this episode was the awesome chemistry between Nitou and Haruto! They worked very well together. I've really come to enjoy seeing those two as a combi. they've been contrasted well in personality, appearance, style, but they're also very complimentary. The little bit with the manga was random, but not unwelcome. That was pretty cool! In some ways this was an average episode/story arc; the phantom was made obvious in the last episode, and the gate was nothing to write home about. But this episode made a better use of the characters than in previous episodes. Speaking of side characters, Sora's pretty damn awesome as a villain. I thought he was a bit too silly at first, but now I think he's just great! VERY dark. |

38-39 Average episodes. What more can I say? I thought at first that it was stupid that Haruto didn't just use Infinity, but that's because the show has made it so easy to forget that his magical energy is finite, and he needs time to recharge. So using it recklessly would lead to his losing battles... And yet he does it all the time anyway. Who am I kidding? There are no consequences to anything in this show. Gee. I wonder if that ring is to force a Sabbath. Sarcasm. Episode 40 Preview: "Oh. This looks like another average episo- MAYU!!!! HUZZAH. TWIN SHOWDOWN. =D Speculation: Wiseman and White Wizard are totally the same person. I guess it's possible they aren't, but this show is doing everything possible to convince me they are. Even if they aren't, there is a 100% chance they are working together. I find it incredibly sly of Wiseman to be powering up Haruto with the magic gems he produces; It's like he's closing the gap between human Haruto and phantom Dragon, causing them to be in tune with one another more and more. It seems like he's either trying to overpower Haruto so he loses control and becomes some kind of super-phantom, or he's trying to create some super-powerful, human-phantom hybrid. Or is that the same thing... Either way, it's like Sora says: despite appearances, Haruto is not a human being. That interests to me. It reminds me of 555's Orphenochs, and how they were the only ones able to use the rider gears. Wish this was a more prominent theme in the show. I hope we figure out if Sora is what he says he is (a phantom with a human heart), or just a phantom with a few too many screws loose. Counting down to the finale now... Of course good will prevail over evil, but at what cost? Overall Wizard has been a less-than-average series. Maybe better than Fourze and OOO... I don't know because I haven't watched those. Wizard has a lot of missed potential, mainly in its cast of characters. The action is amazing, but the storytelling falls short. I'm looking back at my expectations of this show, and now I'll answer to some of them (from earlier on in this thread): In all seriousness, he sounds like Philip. Nothing wrong with that! I like the idea of that the kaijin might be something along the lines of a golem. Or a homunculus? =D Haruto has turned out to be quite a bit like Philip in W. But less fruity/soft than I assumed. He did end up with a lot of goofy characters whose contrast highlights his coolness. Episode 1! Yes, summoning one's bike (and doughnuts!) is very cool. Unfortunately, very little bike use. But the "connect please" spell is still amusing. But I'm not digging the mix of tech lingo and magic so far. Bit too heavy handed, I think. They could've gotten away with zero tech. Might've lead to a better belt and weapon design because the current ones are clunky. Oh, and what is with all the voice over crap these days anyway? That's happening more than it did before, in Sentai too. It's irritating. =/ I guess kids might enjoy imitating it? I'm still annoyed by the overall design of the belts. Beast's is even clunkier. But this is a toy commercial, and I can see how the designs make sense in terms of being toys. OH GOD THE VOICE OVERS. LET THEM STOP. XD Every time I hear (the belt's) that voice when they henshin or cast a spell, I die a little inside. This has been as terrible as I thought it would be, His forms are all very cool, though I still think the rings are too big. I got used to the ring size, and I'm still impressed by his design. The creation of Phantoms and Wizard's origin remind me of Faiz (and Kiva)! Which is a good thing. I'm excited to see Haruto's struggle to keep his inner phantom in check. Or at least I hope they deal with that. I love characters with a dual nature! Wasn't I just talking about the similarities between Wizard and Faiz again? YES. Ah, but Haruto doesn't have a dual nature, so much as he communes with his... inner spirit dragon. Saddens me a bit. I'm totally behind the inclusion of familiars because I dug the disc animals in Hibiki. Though this is far from the first time since then we've seen them; W had them as well, thought they were a bit downplayed. GOLEM. =D Adorable! Overall I thought it was a very cool first episode. Good fight scenes, and Wizard has an interesting range of abilities. Most of his spells are goofy and sort of random. There's a good dynamic between the characters as well, though I fear Daimon is either going to constantly hinder Haruto's work, or end up worshipping him ala a Doctor Who companion. I hope neither. I want her to be useful and strong! ... not in love with him. A few episodes ago the donuts lady asked if Haruto and Rinko had broken up... This was a joke, of course, but basically this show really underwhelmed with Rinko, Shunpei... everyone that's not a Kamen Rider or a villain, basically. |

40 Oh! Beast is a Kamen "Rider" now! XD Oh my gosh... Basically spent this entire episode waiting for Mayu to appear. And then she did! And she was actually a Kamen Rider! HUZZAH! Weeeeeeeeeelll, the design is underwhelming. I was sort of hoping for something as awesome as Medusa's design. Maybe even Medusa-esque. But looking at the movie preview, it's probably a generic, army-style suit. It saddens me that instead of being an original rider like Wizard or Beast, Mayu's the first (or maybe not?) in an army of generic Riders that White Wizard is trying to build. So on the one hand: YAY! FEMALE RIDER! Not enough those to go around! On the other hand: Oh. She's just generic, one of many. Interesting implication if this was White Wizard's intention all along: Haruto was just a prototype, and Wiseman has been giving Haruto the stones to power him up so he can defeat White Wizard's wizard army. Ah, but if he's trying to make an army, it makes sense now why he seems to be gearing up for another Sabbath. And also why Wiseman seems against doing another one. Ah plot. There you are! We missed you! In the meantime, Mayu goes recruiting? |

40 Using a bike? Don't you have any pride as a rider, Kou? At least the moves were good. And only Kou would overdo it and make the boy go downhill... Man, they sure use the weirdest guys to play the phantoms. So, Mayu shows up as a wizard, but she's generic. That was totally disappointing. It's good to see a female rider, but couldn't they make her an original rider instead of a reuse of the movie suit? I wonder why Fueki is recruiting wizards... |

41: Though I was disappointed by the use of the generic suit, I did enjoy the action and Mayu's spell casting. I also liked that she wasn't too intense of a character, or somehow brainwashed by White Wizard! Good episode overall. Sooo... whether Fueki is White Wizard or not, he probably has/had a daughter named Kyouko. Gee. I wonder if that's Koyomi's true identity? Sigh. I knew that would happen with Yuzuru. Little disappointed White Wizard is such a douchebag though. |

41 So, other wizards created by white wizard can give mana do Koyomi. So White Wizard is a douche and has a plan. And Nittou can't be used because he wasn't created in the normal way. And Kizaki had something to do with him 42 So, Sora knows something about White Wizard. Not a fan of the arc's plot. Pretty lame, but ti was about time they developed Koyomi a little. 43 So Koyomu is Fueki's daughter. And the guy that saw them together was a phantom AND showed up before Haru and the gang. Obviously he had to be saved from the underworld so Haru could see Fueki there... Also, the needing Wizards might have something to do with it. Meh, this show has good characters but now, looking back, they really didn't do much with them. Koyomi was practically absent during the mid series... 44 Man, the trasition between the scene when they jump and when they fight in the stairs was one of the worsts I'`ve ever seen. So, we know what the philosophers stone is and why gremlim wants it. But they still haven't told us much. The teacher is a good character. Hope he brings development for Haru. The Phantom is just awesome. |

45 So, the teacher got a new hope and Haru got a little development. Still, it's already 45 and things don't look like a climax. I guess that's wiz's problem. Not much has really happened all this time. And the probable finale plot twist was evident since far back in the series. |
Aug 8, 2013 6:51 PM

46: So Gremlin wants the philosopher's stone to become human and Wiseman presumably wants it to turn more gates into phantoms, so White Wizard probably wants it to revive Koyomi and return her to being human. Either that, or Koyomi contains the philosopher's stone. Lots of plot movement this episode, but I really hope Wizard is 51 episodes because it's not yet begun to come together. Props to Nakayama Erina for being the bright spot of this series. She's been a badass villain (that devilish smile!), and also a great hero! It helps that she was introduced right along with her motivation and for her I know what's at stake. I hope she finds closure by the end of the show. Sadly, I think she's been underused as Mayu, and I wish she had as distinctive a rider design as Medusa has as a phantom. P.S. 44/45 and the previous soccer-themed episodes were too little too late for me. Haruto should've been characterized more in the first half of the series. As it is, I think the focus on silly comedy detracts from the show. It could've be cooler. The second half has been a bit messy, but isn't that how it always us? =/ |

46 Shame on you, Todoroki. You're a rider. You could've fought the Phantom yourself. So as expected, Fueki wants the stone to save Koyomi. He probably needs the Wizards for this. And thus, he needs phantoms. Wiseman might need Phantoms to create his stone. Or maybe Wiseman is Fueki's Phantom and he found a way to coexist. And he still needs Phantoms for new Wizards. Koyomi might be the vessel for the stone. If Fueki is Wiseman, he might've used the eclipse to save her, but he failed and couldn't finish it, thus creating the doll version. Or he wanted to spawn multiple Wizards right there. The Haru and Koyomi moments were nice though. Yes, Medusa is awesome. The only thing that stands out in the series, besides Rinko in her rare and best moments. Mayu is also good and is more of a character in the few eps she's shown up than Shunpei and Wajima... The show could've explored the characters and their relations more. They're very good and have very good chemistry. But it was too stuck in the arc format. And as usual, they don't use those arcs to develop the character, loosing precious time with the gates, who don't show up anymore... |

^That's basically what I was talking about when new shows seem shallower. Sure, Blade had arcs, but man the characters were well-balanced with each other, and they were characterized beyond their rider persons much more earlier in the series than Haruto was. Goofy comedy has always seemed shallow to me though; it's not just in Kamen Rider. So that's probably just preference. |

I won't comment much about blade because it might start an off topic discussion, but developing the characters doesn't create depth per se. I don't think Blade was deep, even though it's in my top 3 Heisei. Sure it's probably deeper than Wiz, but Wiz has no character development AND no plot. I like how the riders became more plot driven. They just need to work more on the characters. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that's what they're going to do. At least they called Urobuchi for Gaim's plot, I'm expecting a good plot. But what we can agree on is that Wiz is full of wasted opportunities. You might forget your characters and build an awesome story. You might forget your plot and have awesome characters. You migh even do both and create a masterpiece. But they chose to do neither this season. Wiz is stylish, has great choreography, cool characters and interesting plot ideas. None were well used. Hell, even the fights are boring, because the choreography is good, but there's no strategy and the power levels keep changing to match the needs of the current episode. Also, they keep spamming forms. |
