^ No need to project your frustration about Valvrave not getting proper recognition or allow your skepticism about Urobuchi's fame to blind you from staying cool and see what the fact actually tells us: That quite many people just hold off ordering the series, even though they may have already been inclined to buy it, until the last minute when they see the ending. And those people may not be so swayed by the fame of Urobuchi -- western fans hyping about him in this forum in one thing, fans buying the discs in Japan are quite another thing. If the fans do not like the ending (and the series as a result) it does not matter who is writing it, so your "name>all" idea is pretty stupid (Yes I have to use this word this time because you really sound like it this time). And a rush to buy causing the ranking to shot up spectacularly does not mean anything like "the absolute best episode ever in history" -- who is saying that (except you)?
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Your probably right, I just know that's what's going to happen and that's what makes it irksome. I still absolutely detest this fandom and think it's full of the some of the crappiest most petty people and wonder how something as fun as anime could spawn so many loathsome types, but it's probably just a matter of people holding off cause it's an expensive box. Personally I thought the show was tremendously disappointing for what it promised at the start, but oh well, it is what it is and it's probably just realizing it's actual popularity.

Amazing though that Japanese fans seem to have this thing called patience and an open mind to let things take their course and play out before making a final decision. Maybe they'd be inclined to share it with this side of the Atlantics fandom cause god knows they bloody well need it.

This series is a curious thing because it seems to want to take on quite many themes and at times it seems to be not sure what it is trying to do or go. However, I remember reading an interview with the producer and the director and they said one main theme is about young people having first contact with the society and learn about joy of life and work there. And I think at the end it sticks close to that theme. Of course there are quite a few other themes around too but I feel contented that that theme about growth and life is highlighted at the end. Also, the world design like the retro science, cranky ships/machines, azure sea and blue sky always give me a strong Miyazaki vibe. This, combined with the theme about going to society and learning about life and work, prompts me (and some fans in Japan) to see it as a kind of Miyazaki style anime tuned up for youngsters (instead of kids) -- and viewed in that perspective I think this series can be considered as a success despite its flaws.

To be honest, the huge jump took me (and I would say almost everyone) by surprise. Given the recent suspicion of manipulation of Amazon ranking with fake orders in certain title, I want to stay cautious but my gut feeling is that the rush of orders is real - people just wait until they finish the series to make the purchase. Anyway, we'll need to wait two months before we know how real this boost is....

Does it mean even in a very competitive week, we are going to see Love Live again in the Tuesday list without having to wait until Friday?

In the mean time, OreGairu v1 is still totally gone everywhere in Akihabara...

Well probably if it's ranked in the Top 20 on the Weekly BD All-Genre list. Not sure how many strong non-anime we have this week... but Love Live! 4's daily rankings are pretty strong I think for a 2nd week. There are probably around 10 anime titles that will rank above it though.

I'm starting to get GaruPan vibes but on a lesser scale for now, lol. That's pretty impressive though.

But the numbers in the Daily Ranking in your chart are already the positions in the BD/DVD all-genre daily ranking, no? Given that it showed up among the top 20 almost every day in the week, I guess it will make a 2nd week appearance... and this would be truly amazing given this week is one week that is extremely competitive.

It depends though. The daily ranking order in this chart is just for June 30. I would think that the pre-release and release days are the most important in terms of sales numbers. Some titles may still end up above Love Live! 4 for just this reason, it's just they didn't rank as often. I also do think Love Live! 4 will rank on Tuesday anyway.

2ch also does try and predict the ranking order and sales numbers based on past data and the Oricon Daily Ranking data for BD/DVD. Sometimes they are so close that it's scary... but other times they are way off, lol.

No... it is from 24th to 30th... And tomorrow list will cover precisely 24th to 30th.. Isn't it quite clear that Love Live 4 is going to make into the top 20 list tomorrow?

The daily ranks suggest, yes it will most likely rank this week. However, would you think Eva 3.33 will rank on Tuesday this week? It's higher for June 30, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will rank on the Weekly list as 14th, right? Sorry, if i'm misunderstood what you said... but that's what i'm understanding from this.

Errrr...This is precisely why I said "Given that it showed up among the top 20 almost every day in the week, I guess it will make a 2nd week appearance..." Clearly Evangelion 3.33 did not show up in top 20 almost every day in the week of Jun24-30, no??

Sorry my bad. Yeah, you are correct in saying it will rank this Tuesday due to it ranking in the Top 20 for most of June 24~30 week. I thought you said it will definitely rank because the final positions (which is ordered for June 30) on the Daily Chart... but I misunderstood.

I was trying to figure out which titles will make the tomorrow's list and decided to wait until today's daily ranking to come out to make comments - and obviously the comments would not be just about today's ranking but the overall ranking performance in the week.

Now I can see 7 non-anime titles in top 20 on the 25th and just 2 non-anime titles on the 27th. So perhaps there will be around 16 anime titles in the list tomorrow.

And I think the following 13 will surely show up

*** *** *** **1 **1 **1 **1 | -- | ONE PIECE Film Z Limited Edition
*** *** *** **3 **2 **3 **3 | -- | ONE PIECE Film Z Regular Edition
*** **1 **1 **5 **3 **4 **4 | -- | UtaPri 2000% 1
*** **2 **2 **6 **7 **5 **5 | -- | SAO 9
*** *** *** **2 **6 **6 **6 | -- | JoJo 6
*** *** *** **4 **5 **7 **8 | -- | Date A Live 1
*** **6 **6 *15 **9 **8 **9 | -- | Little Busters! 7
*** *11 *13 *** *11 *10 *12 | -- | ViviPan 4
*** *10 **7 *19 *16 *11 *15 | -- | Valvrave 1
*** *17 *12 *** *** *17 *16 | -- | HenNeko. 1
*** **3 **4 *10 *17 *15 *18 | -- | Gurren Lagann Complete Box
**5 *** *10 *20 *14 *16 *20 | -- | Love Live! 4
*** **8 **9 *11 **8 *12 *** | -- | OreGairu. 1

The question is which 3 to 5 titles from below will make the list as well.

*** *** *** **7 *10 *14 *** | -- | Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W 2
*** *** *** *17 *12 *19 *** | -- | Da Capo III 4
*** *16 *16 *** *18 *** *** | -- | Namiuchugiwa no Muromi-san 1

*** *** *** **9 *** *** *** | -- | Smile Precure 4
*** *** *** *13 *** *** *** | -- | Rozen Maiden BOX 2
*** *** *** *14 *** *** *** | -- | Photokano 1
*** *** *** *16 *** *** *** | -- | Red Data Girl 1
*** **7 *18 *** *** *** *** | -- | Index Box

Here are these titles with previous volume totals or their Stalker predictions if they don't have previous data. Based on this... I think it'll be Index Box, Haiyore! W 2, Minami-ke, Muromi-san and Smile Precure/Photokano (since Photokano beat RDG on the only day they ranked... and it depends if Smile Precure drops further from its last volume numbers).

Sumurai Bride 1 missing from here, means it has most likely also suffered troll preorders. You were right in being pessimistic here, but now I wonder how it sold now.

Also, UtaPri2 is above SAO 9 every single day in both BD and DVD ranking (in DVD far above). SAO 8 sold 25.6k BD+DVD in its first week. Perhaps UtaPri2 1 may actually hit 30k in its first week...?

I'm thinking 25~30k on BD for UtaPri (depends if SAO 9 got a big boost from the novel) and 10k (since it is well above Hetalia) on DVD now. So 35~40k will be my prediction.

^ The 27k Stalker BD+DVD prediction is clearly an underestimate. The question is how much bigger than this. 30k should not be a problem at all, though I am not sure if it will make over 35k. I guess my call is 30-35k...

While we are at it, I will also make a call that Valvrave, Date A Live and OreGairu will all cross 8k for its BD+DVD sales. On the other hand, HenNeko may end up making 5-6k (despite its 8k BD+DVD Stalker prediction)

I agree with your predictions. I wonder what the rank order and sales numbers 2ch will predict for this week for BD/DVD. It's usually up on the sales thread around 12~2pm on Tuesday, labelled as "SSBD" and "SSDVD".

No, no no... That is not 2ch prediction, but another sales survey chart similar to Oricon but done by another company called Sound Scan (hence the SS abbreviation in SSBD and SSDVD). They came out before the Oricon numbers, so it is often used as a prelude for discussion before the more widely recognized Oricon chart is out.

2ch is just a forum and there is no polling mechanism (unlike MAL for example) so any "2ch prediction poll" like the seasonal one will have to be organized by individual user who is dedicated to the cause -- it is just too much work for such prediction poll to be organized there week in week out....

Ohh, i've always been wondering what these numbers were... so I assumed they were predictions or something. Thanks for the correction. Yeah I know about Sound Scan... just didn't click in my head that SS meant Sound Scan.

I don't get the sympathy people have for Crime Edge. I could only enjoy it when I was watching it as a self parodying comedy due to how stupid it was a lot of the time. I would honestly be more suprised if it did well. Plus it is a part of the horror genre, which at least in my exprience isn't one of the best selling anime genre's out there.

Ore Imo sold well I guess. Although I am pretty sure that the show has quite a drop from it's season 1 sales. I am guessing(if I am not mistaken here about the drop) it is probably something to do with the shows little emphasis on comedy, which could scared off the parts of the fanbase who watched it for the shows humour. Either way it sold well, so I'm quite happy.

Sympathy comes when a series that should be able to sell 1-2k ended up selling only 0.3k. As I said before, we never think it will do well, but not doing well but sold 2k is quite different from not doing well selling 0.3k. And your theory about horror not selling cannot explain the 0.3k sales of Crime Edge -- Another definitely sold significantly more than that for example.

I liked Crime Edge but not enough to buy the discs. Contrary to some, I absolutely loved episode 6. If the anime had ended at that point on that high note I would have bought it but the next section lost me a little bit, then picked up at the end. The montage at the end has me wanting to know what happens. Ironically since I know the sales are poor and expect that this means no more anime seasons I opted to order all of the manga volumes instead of the discs.

That said, if the ED for episodes 1, 6 and 13 "Glass no Mikazuki (硝子の三日月)" by Iwai Mushanokouji (CV: Kotori Koiwai) ends up on a BD+CD only combo then I will need to buy that disc as I absolutely love that song and so far I haven't seen it on the ED CD which only has the ED for the other episodes. If it ends up on a soundtrack or character song CD which is separate, all the better. Otherwise I will need to buy disc 3 with episode 6 and may do so anyway as I did love it. Weird to buy just one disc but it was one of my favorite episodes out of any show this season.

If anyone knows if Glass no Mikazuki is on the CD with BD1, please let me know as it might have been on it. Amazon doesn't say what's on it and the Crime Edge anime web site's details page for BD1 gives a Cloudflare error, never a good sign... hopefully just maintenance...

---

But at least I'm buying the manga! Aku no Hana anime really doesn't make me want to buy the manga. I think people who already like the manga are OK but as an ad for the manga itself, I will have to track the sales as I wonder if it will have any positive effect or not. I will watch Crime Edge manga sales as well, assuming it has ever ranked.

If the manga can make the Oricon list it is not really that low in the first place. Just look at Crime Edge.. I have been searching high and low for its sales to no avail...

As for the CD in Crime Edge BD, I don't think v1 and v2 have any ED. Vol.1 is radio and some net broadcast messages. Vol.2 is special voice messages from Iwai-chan. Both are according to the contents listed in the official anime website. Contents from vol.3 and beyond not listed yet .

Thanks for finding the Aku no Hana manga sales, jmal. Doubled, eh? I'm surprised but happy for them.

Thanks, symbv. As I said the site was down when I checked. Must have that ED though...

For more details on Aku no Hana manga sales, quoting from a post from a previous thread:

kuuderes_shadow said:
Incidentally, in its first 3 days, Aku no Hana vol 7 sold 19k copies. It had only sold 40k after 10 days.
In its first 3 days, Aku no Hana vol 8 has sold 44k copies.

Even if the anime itself is a disaster, it's at least brought attention, which has led to an increase in manga readership.

And in the second week, Aku no Hana vol 8 went on to sell another 45k, making the sales 89k before disappearing from the Oricon ranking:

17. *45,048 *,*89,036 Aku no Hana Vol.8

For a fetish manga I would consider it doing really well, even if it is not one of those great hit >100k sellers.

^^^ If people went out and bought 45000 copies more of all 8 volumes then that would be good, would likely at least make it break even. Just on one volume, that won't amount to a lot. If it can hold that sales increase for the next few volumes it will help.

Just interesting that both had ending montages which contained a preview of what the next season would contain if there was one. Two poor sellers in the same season using the same tactic...

... and both fetish mangas.

Really sad that majestic prince did indeed flop. sigh...guess the midway boost didn't do much. On the contrary, I'm glad that Gargantia is doing well and getting a nice boost from the ending. I share a little of the frustration similar to Kaoshin-sama but overall I still feel happy that it's doing well. Since it successfully messed with my emotions and played around with some interesting moral and social dilemas, I think it deserves the good sales. Although Valvrave seems to be doing well, I can't help but worry about the drop after the final episode. I wonder how much it will affect sales. A little sad that the two last episodes didn't do much to improve sales or place it on par with Gargantia but oh well.

btw, I thought only Valvrave have been given that hater treatment but it seems that even Gargantia is not exactly free of them. (only had time to post on one thread) How hard is it to satisfy those critics anyway? >_<

As the saying goes, every successful show has its fair share of haters ;-) Look at the most popular shows - Bake, Madoka, Seed, IS, Macross Frontier, Ano Hana, SAO, K-On all have huge number of haters, and the list goes on and on... At the end it is better to have haters than no attention at all (the so-called "air shows") - Indifference is arguably the bigger enemy because even though haters do not buy anything, at least they generate some noises LOL LOL

When you put it that way, it makes it pretty hard to decide whether to be grateful or to be irritated by them. Well, I guess the best choice would be tolerance.

Personally I won't be grateful to them. I just treat them as by-product of a show getting attention and fans, because with fans there are always haters following along. (and an "air show" has no fan, which means no hater as well) Irritation is a normal and reasonable reaction, particularly if the haters are not providing sensible or thoughtful criticism but instead throwing cliched rant words that sounds like criticism but in fact superficial emotion reactions. Tolerance is good, but I would say it is also good not to be tolerant towards intolerance ;-)

Wait for the news thread and you can spew out your excitement more there ;-) Indeed it went way beyond our wildest guesses. Anyway, A LOT of singles and albums made the list this week, so I urge patience for anyone waiting for the latest BD/DVD and CD sales update.

Well the live event ticket application was for a really popular song amongst female fans. Not to mention how much female fans love things with their favourite male seiyuu being involved in it. I didn't think the live event ticket boost would be this big though.

v2+ will drop by half at the minimum. It depends whether UtaPri gathered 2x as many fans as S1... or the song was just so popular that it'll drop back down to 13k or so for v2+.

Me too. I know event ticket boosts sales but I didn't really expect this one would be this strong.
