| Well, I certainly think SnK has been hyped to kingdom come but I think it's much better than SAO so I don't mind so much. Also, the reasons behind why the two of them are popular are different, the reason why SAO was popular (self insert otaku wish fulfillment) is so much worse than why SnK is so popular. |

Or at least that's what I mean by success, nobody buys something that "sucks". There's still a ton more reasons for something to be popular over another. Anime A has commercials and advertisements for it airing everywhere and airs on a popular network. Anime B has one commercial at odd hours of the night and airs on some obscure channel. Obviously A is going to become more popular then B assuming they are of the same quality due to exposure. Casual watchers who just catch say, Toonami, on Sundays or whenever it airs are only going to be exposed to what it's airing. I mention demographic to because what someone liked at age14-16 will probably change by the time they're an adult. There's a whole host of other influences to, I'll just end on the most important one.
