Thanks for the comment. Sketched w/ pencil on notepad, scanned into SAI and did the lines/tones on another layer. If I had a Cintiq I could skip the pencil/scanning part...sigh. Oh well, proper training comes before technology.

Actually the arms are pretty good (especially hands, I like). The only issue I can see that her left forearm doesn't seem "perfectly" foreshortened (imagine it as cylinders in space). The gesture seems pretty natural, but I think her dress on her right side needs to be shifting a little inwards toward the bottom, just because of where her legs should be. It looks like your values are on their first layer so it just needs a lot more rendering which I'm guessing you're working on next. The reason it looks flat right now is just lack of contrast in values. Try to consider reflected light too...it can make a huge difference (like the red dress will reflect some reddish light on her arm, etc.). "Generally" arms/legs go: Light (where light source is hitting), Darker, Darker, then some reflected light at the end.

I flipped your picture. This is a good way to get a fresh view of it so you can point out errors you may have overlooked since you've been staring at the same image for too long.

Ah yes, the old "cut the legs off" technique that you mentioned. While it works to some effect (I'm guilty of doing this all the time; see last post), it won't look as balanced as if you drew the entire figure and then cropped it, just because it's not grounded to a center of gravity. That's what I'm working on...it's pretty hard. A single gesture line and perspective lines for guidelines can make a huge difference in how natural the pose looks. Hope this helps.

Thank you Fui <3 Certainly helps. Tho I'm not sure if I will be able to manage make it look well XD.
Left forearm eh- Uhm..the shape overall or would better shading be enough? 7.7 Those hands were hell and I have still problems how to shade them XD.

B-but....legs are so hard to draw...even if I look at references at photos those models seem to have different bones from normal people... DD: It makes me dizzy @_@ So dizzy I can't give it proper gravity! And actually stock photos and other reference photos...just don't look exactly natural ;_;

And yup, I'm working on shades and lights now, thanks for tips :3

What do you want to draw? Basically, draw that. Of course to get good pencil (material) technique, you should be drawing from life (still life, people, landscapes, etc). It's important to be able to see values (darks and lights) and be able to mimic them. Pay attention to how light reflects and how shadows are cast with different shapes. Everything in the world is just a bunch of shapes (even the human body), so if you can draw a bunch of shapes well in space you should be able to draw pretty much anything (theoretically). Make sure you're drawing from observation though; often times people that are drawing a model are not looking at the model; they're looking down at their paper drawing what they think the model looks like. This is a big problem, so make sure you are drawing only what you see by making constant checks, while looking for values and proportions.

For learning (you still need to study to be a good artist) how to draw humans, I suggest looking up PDFs by Andrew Loomis for anatomy. You can also practice your gestures with http://www.posemaniacs.com/ (30-45 second drawing to learn the flow of the body to make it look natural). A nice mini tutorial I like is http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm. Yeah just draw everything and have fun with it. Feel free to ask me if you have other questions, although I just started taking art classes this summer so a lot of stuff is new to me, too.

Oh here's one last little tutorial thing I saved for anime. Warning: Nudity (it's the human body...lol) and large size. Perspective and gestures are absolutely critical for drawing people in different poses...I think.

Hope this helps.
