If we went by the suggestion, the statistics would add up to over 100% which makes the use somewhat redundant and pointless.



What about just putting the most prominent genre from a user's list as a statistic? If this was done, it would be a single stat, and wouldn't take up much room. Even though many shows have multiple genres, there will always be a single genre that is on the list more than any of the others.

I think you misunderstood. To obtain that single statistic, one would still have to process through all the individual entries on your list and then just display the top genre. Now multiply that process by 400,000. It would probably be similar to the tag clouds we used to have on our profiles which, surprise-surprise, are not there anymore.
