Iris is the daughter of the gym leader of Souryuu City, which is the last gym battle in the Pokémon Black and White games. She's in fact not one of the elite four (which a lot of people here think).

You can battle against Iris in the newest Pokémon games, but only if you have the Pokémon White version. If you have the Black version, you will battle against her father.

Her team: (same as her fathers')
Onondo (level 41) - Crimgan (level 41) - Ononokusu (level 43).

So how do you think about this? I know a lot of people know this already, but some don't :-).

I already knew about this, but the first thing I thought when I learnt of this was that it would be nice to not have a stupid Pokemon trainer starting out in the group. Each region has had one. Kanto had Ash, Johto still had Ash (honestly, the only series that I felt Ash knew what he was doing was the Orange Islands arc), Hoenn had May and Sinnoh had Dawn. I was sick of the baby explanations for things that those trainers brought about which was ultimately their only purpose as characters; to teach each new generation of Pokemon fans the basics. Frankly, it was annoying for the veterans. Having three experienced trainers on hand definitely makes the series more enjoyable and even though Iris' back story hasn't been revealed yet, it's quite clear that she knows her way around Isshu and Pokemon.

I would also like to add that having Dent replace Brock was a strike of genius to say the least. He's inquisitive and interesting and most of all, no GIRLS ARE SO HAWT running gag that's been going for ten years--Though he hasn't been in enough episodes yet to decipher whether he does have a gag as yet, so we may have to wait and see on that one. Also I was ecstatic to hear Miyano Mamoru's voice behind him, even though that makes it clear that he is meant to fit a form of bishonen role.

Overall, it feels like Pokemon has grown up a little.

Thankyou, I didn't know this.
Pokemon Black and White seems a lot more appealing now, I think I'll download the Japanese version out of inpacience. :P

Yet Iris hasn't really done much 'cept call Ash a child for not knowing things every five seconds (which is rather annoying)... I haven't seen her showing off her so-called experience yet.

I do wonder if we get to meet the player characters though. I think they're supposed to be older than the previous gens', so I wonder how they'll interact with Ash.

I was focusing more on the less tutorial-esque episodes the passed two seemed to poison us with, unlike Iris who speaks logic whenever she reprimands Ash about Pokemon. I'm sure she'll fight soon enough, especially once her identity is revealed in the anime and her fighting skill is guaranteed considering her back-story.

Even though Iris is a little pretentious, she's still the least irritating Pokemon girl I've seen in a while.

Hmm.. her team in the games is: Onondo (level 41) - Crimgan (level 41) - Ononokusu (level 43).

So these are probably the pokémon she will catch in the end.

I wouldn't say that. Remember Brock and Misty caught a number of Pokemon during the first season that didn't correspond with their team in the game. The anime barely follows the game most of the time.

I have Pokemon White and she's pretty strong as a Gym Leader, but in the anime she sucks in battling though, heck she can't even control her Doryuuzu.

In the most recent episode, episode 9, she did, one of her pokemon can't battle yet and the other just ignore her.

I think you're wrong. It's just a part of the game - not the anime. When you win a gym badge you're Pokémon can go to a higher level.

I agree, in the anime it's usually something along the lines of the pokemon not respecting the trainer until some event happens to make them, like Charizard and Ash in the first season. I love those episodes, I hope Iris gets one.

The anime covered this already :D

It said she met and battled Shaga but nothing about them being related. And I always thought he was her grandfather
